Solvay Physics Conference 1927
www.FreeScienceLectures.com The most known people who participated in the conference were Ervin Schrodinger, Niels Bohr, Werner Heisenberg, Auguste Piccard, Paul Dirac, Max Born, Wolfgang Pauli, Louis de Broglie, Marie Curie, Hendrik Lorentz, Albert Einstein and others. The film opens with quick shots of Erwin Schrodinger and Niels Bohr. Auguste Piccard of the University of Brussels follows and then the camera re-focuses on Schrodinger and Bohr. Schrodinger who developed wave mechanics never agreed with Bohr on quantum mechanics. Solvay gave Heisenberg an opportunity to discuss his new uncertainty principle theory. Max Born's statistical interpretation of the wave function ended determinism in atomic world. These men - Bohr, Heisenberg, Kramers, Dirac and Born together with Born represent the founding fathers of quantum mechanics. Louis de Broglie wrote his dissertation on the wave nature of matter which Schrodinger used as basis for wave mechanics. Albert Einstein whose famous response to Born's statistical interpretation of wave function was "God does not play dice." Twenty-nine physicists, the main quantum theorists of the day, came together to discuss the topic "Electrons and Photons". Seventeen of the 29 attendees were or became Nobel Prize winners. Following is a "home movie" shot by Irving Langmuir, (the 1932 Nobel Prize winner in chemistry). It captures 2 minutes of an intermission in the proceedings. 1927 Solvay Conference in Brussels
The International Solvay Institutes for Physics and Chemistry, located in Brussels, were founded by the Belgian industrialist Ernest Solvay in 1912, following the historic invitation-only 1911 Conseil Solvay, considered a turning point in world physics. The Institutes coordinate conferences, workshops, seminars, and colloquia. Following the initial success of 1911, the Solvay Conferences (Conseils Solvay) have been devoted to outstanding preeminent open problems in both physics and chemistry. The usual schedule is every three years, but there have been larger gaps. Perhaps the most famous conference was the October 1927 Fifth Solvay International Conference on Electrons and Photons, where the world's most notable physicists met to discuss the newly formulated quantum theory. The leading figures were Albert Einstein and Niels Bohr. Einstein, disenchanted with Heisenberg's uncertainty principle, remarked "God does not play dice". Bohr replied, "Einstein, stop telling God what to do". (See Bohr--Einstein debates.) 17 of the 29 attendees were or became Nobel Prize winners, including Marie Curie, who alone among them, had won Nobel Prizes in two separate scientific disciplines. This conference was also the culmination of the struggle between Einstein and the scientific realists, who wanted strict rules of scientific method as laid out by Charles Peirce and Karl Popper, versus Bohr and the instrumentalists, who wanted looser rules based on outcomes. Starting at this point, the ...

Advent Calendar 2012 December 11th
11 rhymes with 1927, so let's talk about the fifth Solvay Conference! See some of video footage of the conference itself: www.youtube.com Although the Heisenberg matrix method and Schrodinger wave mechanics had already been reconciled in 1926, and most physicists had come to a consensus shortly after the Solvay Conference, Bohr and Einstein continued to disagree. They discussed their disagreements extensively in the famous Einstein-Bohr debates, and this culminated in the famous EPR paradox in 1935. The resolution of the paradox would not come until long after Einstein had died. You can read Einstein's infamous paper here: prola.aps.org

EU leaders arrive at Solvay Library for summit on Greek euro crisis
This footage shows presidents and prime ministers of the 27 EU member states arrive at the Solvay Library summit venue in Brussels for the first-ever such meeting called by EU president Herman van Rompuy. At the meeting they discussed the Greek euro crisis, triggerred by excessive government debt, and the economic course for the EU in the next ten years, in a plan known as the Europe 2020 strategy. This strategy is to be defined at two subsequent EU summits, in March and in June of this year.

Louis De Broglie great idea everything is a wave-particle even you and me.
Louis De Broglie believed that his matter waves were part of an objective reality, not just a mathematical wave function. His great idea that everything has wave-particle properties is one of the principles that Quantum Atom Theory is based upon. In this theory we are all made of particles but over a period of time we are waves in a process of continuous creation or change that we see and feel as the flow of time itself. A process that we can interact with turning the possible into the actual therefore Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle is the same uncertainty we have with any future event. In this theory we only need three dimensions and one variable of time because we have a process of continuous change. The parallel universes of Hugh Everett and the multiple dimension of String Theory are just individual reference frames within our one three dimensional Universe. In the mathematics of Hugh Everett's Many Worlds Interpretation of quantum mechanics each parallel universe is at right-angles to the other. In this theory this mathematics represents electric fields being at right-angles to magnetic fields. The continuous flow of electric charge or electromagnetic radiating energy (light) is forming an infinity of changing reference frames at every degree and angle of spacetime. The process that causes matter to survive and antimatter to disappear is the flow of time itself! Therefore we have a dynamic Universe of continuous change or creation that we can interact with ...
