Huawei and its authorised distributor in Ghana, IPMC have unveiled the new Huawei Ascend W1 Windows 8 Phone in the country.
The involvement of IPMC as the sole wholesale distributor means IPMC’S brand ambassadors, Jackie Appiah and John Dumelo are also the brand ambassadors for the new handset, plus Miss Ghana 2012 is an additional brand icon, according to the company.
The handset comes with a 4-inch screen, a high capacity 1950mAh battery and unique power saving technology that saves 30% power consumption.
It has Qualcomm’s Krait structured MSM823 dual core CPU with 1.2GHz achievable frequency, a built-in Adreno 305 graphics processor which delivers high quality graphics, a 400MHz achievable frequency; download speed up to HSPA+ 21Mbps, and the 28nm processor makes it possible to enjoy videos and gaming at their best.
The Ascdend W1 has 4GB of internal memory and 512MB of operating memory and it is cable of taking up to 32GB SD external memory card. It has a 5megapixel rare camera and 0.3megapixel front camera.
Like all other Windows 8 phones, it is touch-screen, with live tiles, and has delightful innovation that makes apps easy to use.
“The handset brings the information you want right on your ‘Start’ screen. This include the People Hub for all your contacts, and also allows you to set up a Room, where you can bring your people together away from the crowd to share photos, messages, calendars, notes, and more,” a statement from Huawei said.
Like other Windows 8 phones, the Ascend W1 also comes with the Kid’s Corner, which allows the user to share the phone with children without the worry of children viewing adult content.
The Kid’s Corner has games and other children related application, which could be the only area that children would be restricted to.
The handsets also has the Windows 8 SkyDrive, which allows users to post photos, videos and Office documents online and access them on other Window 8 devices anywhere in the world.
“The SkyDrive feature means your documents go wherever you go and are automatically backed up,” the statement said.
With Xbox Music, the user has access to music across a range of devices.
“Huawei Ascend W1 is designed for the more convenient operating experience; you can import your contacts from Android phone using Bluetooth. The W1 is pre-loaded with a Microsoft Office and Outlook; you can work on Word, Excel and Powerpoint anywhere and anytime, as if you are in office. Thanks to Skydrive, your files can be sync seamlessly and Outlook will keep you updated of every email coming in,” the statement said.
Huawei said the handset would initially be available at Telefonika, Freddy’s Corner and Izone at a store price of GHC499, but would, over time, be available in other handset shops across the country.
Huawei last year launched its branded Mediapad 7, Huawei Ascend P1, Huawei Honor and Huawei G302D, in Ghana; and according to the company they sold a thousand pieces of each within a month.
