3. Various exteriors of girl's house with sign post showing name of street, Olu Hill (name of child's mother is Olu)
4. Police on street where girl was kidnapped
STORYLINE:
Gunmen smashed in the windows of a car carrying a British girl to school on Thursday and kidnapped the three-year-old in the first seizure of a foreign child in Nigeria's increasingly lawless oil region.
The British government called for the immediate release of Margaret Hill, who was taken from her car as it idled in Port Harcourt's heavy morning traffic.
Nigerian community leaders were outraged.
Anabs Saraigbe, an influential chief of the ethnic Ijaw people, who predominate in the region, said the taking an innocent child by force was a criminal act that should be condemned by Nigerians.
Over two-hundred foreigners have been kidnapped since militants stepped up their activities against the oil industry in late 2005 and more than one-hundred expatriates have been seized this year alone as criminal gangs took up the practice.
Kidnappers have focused mostly on foreign, male workers of international companies presumed to have the resources for ransom payments.
Family acquaintances said Margaret's father works in the oil industry.
While two children of wealthy Nigerians have been seized in the restive Niger Delta in recent weeks, Margaret's seizure was the first of a foreign child. Both Nigerian children were released within days without injury.
Nigerian security forces were investigating the case, said Rivers State Police spokeswoman Irejua Barasua.
Acquaintances of Margaret's family said her father is a long-time resident of Nigeria who works for a firm performing contract work in Nigeria's oil industry.
They also said he was the owner of a Port Harcourt night spot popular with expatriate workers. The bar was shuttered on Thursday and Margaret's family members couldn't be located by The Associated Press.
Criminal kidnappings have become common in the region. More than a dozen foreigners are currently in captivity, including five seized on Wednesday from a Royal Dutch Shell oil rig.
Hostages are generally released unharmed after a ransom is paid, often by state governments that control huge, unregulated security slush funds, with officials taking a cut, according to industry officials.
At least two hostages have been killed in the crossfire when security forces clashed with the kidnappers.
The government of new President Umaru Yar'Adua is trying to calm the oil region, where security began worsening with the emergence of a new militant group in late 2005.

A new report suggests that Israel has bought more than three-quarters of its oil from the government of Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan Region.
According to the Financial Times, Israeli firms and refineries imported over 19 million barrels of oil worth one billion dollars between May and August 20-15. That’s almost 77 percent of the crude exported to Israel through Turkey’s port of Jeyhan. Reports of Kurdish oil being sold to Israel emerged in June 2014. But the Kurdistan Regional Government has denied direct sales, saying it doesn't care where the crude is delivered. There's been a dispute between the Iraqi central government and Kurdistan regional administration over crude sales from northern Iraq. Baghdad argues that the oil belongs to Iraq as a nation and should therefore be sold through the Petroleum Ministry.

The split between Iraq's central government and the Kurds is growing after the autonomous Kurdish administration for the first time unilaterally sold oil from their region in the north, a symbolic show of economic independence from Baghdad that could build momentum for an outright break.
The Kurdish north has feuded with the Baghdad government for years over control of oil fields in the autonomous region, but it was not until January this year that the Kurds began exporting its oil to Turkey independently of the central government.
A week ago, it went a step further and sold the oil itself from a Turkish port, keeping the revenues.
The Oil Ministry in Baghdad this week denounced the sale as "smuggling" and a violation of Iraq's sovereignty.
Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki called it "akin to robbery."
"Our priority is to reach a solution with Baghdad. But if Baghdad insists on its unfair economical and political actions than certainly the referendum, selling oil and all other options are on the table," Kurdistan parliament member, Sherko Jawadt, said on Sunday.
The Kurdish region's prime minister, Nechervan Barzani, vowed to continue sales.
He said his government wants a solution with Baghdad, but repeated threats to hold an independence referendum in the north.
Pro-independence sentiment has long been strong in the Kurdistan, the three-province territory in the north that is the heartland of Iraq's ethnic Kurds.
But since the 2003 toppling of Saddam Hussein in a US-led invasion, Kurds have largely sought to carve out a role within a federal Iraq, where they make up 20 percent of the mostly Arab population.
Iraq's president is a Kurd, and Kurdish parties have joined ruling coalitions dominated by Shiite parties, despite repeated disputes over lands, resources and power-sharing.
Tensions with al-Maliki have grown sharply since the withdrawal of US forces in late 2011, with Kurds accusing the Shiite prime minister of consolidating power for himself.
Kurdistan and the mainly Shiite south are Iraq's two main oil-producing regions.
The Kurds claim their region holds reserves of 45 billion barrels, though that figure cannot be confirmed independently.

Oil minister from Kurdish autonomous zone says his region won't be 'under the thumb' of Baghdad

The Kurdish Regional Government's Minister for Natural Resources said on Saturday that Iraq's northern Kurdish region will be "self-sufficient" by the end of the year.
Dr Ashti Hawrami said the region will be free with its own revenue "instead of being under the thumb of dictators in Baghdad".
Kurdish security forces took over two major oil fields outside the disputed northern city of Kirkuk before dawn on Friday and said they would use some of the production for domestic purposes, further widening a split with the central government of Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.
Hawrami said Baghdad had "miscalculated the will of the Kurdish people" by cutting off the 17 percent of the state budget - some 20 (b) billion US dollars in this year's projected budget - that is supposed to be given to the Kurdish region.
The central government withheld the funds after the Kurds began moving oil from fields inside the autonomous zone to Turkey independently against Baghdad's wishes.
The takeover of the Bai Hassan and Kirkuk oil fields were the latest land grabs by Kurds, who have responded to the Sunni militant insurgency that has overrun large parts of Iraq by seizing territory of their own, effectively expanding the Kurdish autonomous zone in the north.
Those moves have infuriated al-Maliki's government while stoking independence sentiment among the Kurds.
The Kurds have said their earlier moves into disputed lands were intended to protect the areas from Sunni militants after the collapse of the Iraqi
military in the face of the insurgency the past month.
But the territory they seized has large Kurdish communities and has long been claimed by the autonomy zone.

LEADIN:
Public sector workers in Iraq's northern Kurdish region say they haven't been paid for months.
The wage freeze comes amid a spat between Kurdish politicians and Baghdad's central government over the sale of oil reserves.
STORYLINE:
Another day in the classroom.
Like every morning, 48-year-old history and geography teacher Saida Youssef Toma gets her classroom ready before her students arrive.
It's the same routine she's been doing for 26 years at Ankawa Secondary School in Irbil.
But the last few months haven't been so easy for Saida - her salary hasn't been paid and she's now working for free.
It's part of an escalating spat between the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) and the Iraqi national government in Baghdad over the country's oil economy.
The oil-rich Kurdish region began, in 2013, to export its own oil through the pipeline to the Turkish border - cutting Baghdad out of the deal.
The Iraqi central government has been withholding the 17 percent of the national budget designated for the Kurdish northern region, until the KRG backs down.
But Baghdad's contribution makes up 70 percent of the Kurdish region's overall budget, so people like Saida who are on the KRG's payroll, are feeling the squeeze.
"It's been three months since we received our salary, because the Iraqi government is not sending Kurdistans' budget and that's causing the problem," she says.
She hopes the new Iraqi government, headed by Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, will find a solution.
Until that time she says she will carry on teaching - with or without payment.
"We continue, it's our duty. and we don't want the future of our students to be lost and we don't want our kids to be lost in the streets so we'll continue teaching them."
Ali Hama Salih, KRG Member of Parliament and member of the Gorran party, says many people in the Kurdish region have the same problem.
"A big portion of the population of Kurdistan receives their salary from the government. The population of Kurdistan is nearly five million people. But nearly 1.2 million receive their salary from the government."
He says it's also causing industries to grind to a halt.
"So not receiving the salary doesn't only affect the employees it affects the bazaar, construction - building schools, hospitals, all being stopped. So these three months compared to the past years, have been the most difficult for the citizens of Kurdistan," he says.
There's been speculation in local media that Irbil and Baghdad have come to an agreement, but Salih is quick to dispute the rumours.
"At the moment there isn't any agreement between the Iraqi government and the KRG to send the monthly budget of Kurdistan, just like before. And those past months that hasn't been paid. No, there isn't any agreement until this moment."
Hassan Mohammed, the Imam of the Qazi Mohamed Mosque in Irbil, is also waiting to be paid.
He's a lot less confident that the new Iraqi government will bring stability and engage in talks with the Kurdish region.
"I'm not optimistic about this new government. As long as we live under the control of this government and they control our budget, our lives are not going to be better than this," he explains from his office in the mosque.
Mohammed is a Kurd and that comes first, he says.
"That God that I just prayed for, created me as a Kurd. My language is Kurdish, my clothes are Kurdish, the territory of Kurdistan is mine. God gave it to me."

wn.com/Workers In Kurdish Region Wait For Wages Amid Oil Revenue Spat

LEADIN:
2014 has been an eventful year for the northern Kurdish region of Iraq.
It's faced a spat with Baghdad over oil and the rise of the Islamic State group, which has taken over swathes of Iraqi territory.
STORYLINE:
It's early June - and hundreds of cars line up at the Khazer checkpoint trying to enter the northern Kurdish region of Iraq.
These people are fleeing the onslaught of the sunni militant group - Islamic State (IS).
The group has just taken over Iraq's second largest city of Mosul and much of the province of Niveneh.
Fleeing his hometown is Internally Displaced Person (IDP) Waad Ali. He arrives at the checkpoint with tales of woe.
"The situation there (Mosul) is hopeless. They destroyed and burned a police station. I will do my best to save my family and protect my children and go to Kurdistan," he says.
For many of those fleeing IS, an IDP camp like this one - set up by UNHCR in Khazer - is their new home.
According to political analyst Dlawer Ala'Aldeen, the influx of IDPs is an indication of the region's "safety and stability."
"Kurdistan's safety and stability is quite clear from the number of Internally Displaced People and the refugees who come to Kurdistan and find a safe haven in this region," says Ala'Aldeen, who is President of the Middle East Research Institute (MERI).
By July an oil spat between the central Baghdad government and the Kurdish Regional Government's (KRG) has been rumbling on for months.
Earlier in the year Baghdad cuts off 17 percent of the state budget - some 20 (b) billion US dollars in the year's projected budget - that is supposed to be given to the Kurdish region.
The central government holds the funds after the Kurds begin moving oil from fields inside the autonomous zone to Turkey independently against Baghdad's wishes.
The Kurdish government says it needs the money to meet the growing security demands and pay public sector workers.
In July Kurdish security forces take over two major oil fields - Bai Hassan and Kirkuk - outside the disputed northern city of Kirkuk, saying they will use some of the production for domestic purposes.
And on 12 July the KRG's Minister for Natural Resources, Dr Ashti Hawrami, announces that his region will be "self-sufficient" by the end of the year.
"See, Baghdad made the wrong calculation. They thought that they strangle us by cutting our budget unfairly, illegally and unconstitutionally as a punishment. They have miscalculated the will of the Kurdish people - they fight back."
At this time the Kurds are responding to the Sunni militant insurgency by seizing territory of their own, effectively expanding the Kurdish zone in the north.
These moves are infuriating the Baghdad government, while stoking independence sentiment among the Kurds.
The Kurds and Baghdad have feuded for years over a host of issues - chief among them rights to oil resources in the north and disputed territory.
On the 24 July, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon steps in to try to ease tensions.
He meets the KRG President Massoud Barzani in the region's capital, Irbil and calls for calm between the two sides.
"This crisis requires the leaders in Irbil and leaders in Baghdad (to) work together to maintain the unity of the country within its federal system and remove the danger of further tensions and conflict," he says.
At the beginning of August, Kurdish Peshmerga forces suffer heavy losses against Islamic State, which causes another influx of IDPs to the region.
Amongst them this group of Yazidis who are crossing into the Kurdish region at Fishkhabur on the 3 August.
Members of the religious minority group were trapped in northwestern Iraq after fleeing from IS, who seized Sinjar, in northern Iraq, near the Syrian border.

STORYLINE:
Thousands of Libyans protested on Friday against a move by leaders in the oil-rich eastern part of the country to create a self-ruled region.
In the eastern city of Benghazi, protesters denounced the move as a call for separation.
"Shame on you for dividing Libya by your own hands", demonstrators chanted in the city centre.
They waved Libyan flags and banners carrying the logo of Libya's main Islamist group, the Muslim Brotherhood.
The protests came days after representatives of major tribes and militia commanders in the east announced Barqa state as a semi-autonomous region.
They said their decision was not intended to divide the country, only to end years of discrimination against the east under ousted dictator Moammar Gadhafi.
But many Libyans are worried that by creating these autonomous, or semi-autonomous regions, where local leaders hold sway it will eventually lead to the disintegration of the country.
Mahmoud Shamam, member of National transitional Council, took part in the Benghazi.
"This large crowd confirms the unity of Libya and also confirms that the future of Libya is the homeland for all and not only one category and it is not a domination of the one team without the other teams and at the same time this is an invitation against marginalisation," he said.
Mohamed Al-hejazi, a spokesman for the Libyan military said they did not want federalism "because this means division and we are against it."
The Muslim Brotherhood also issued a statement rejecting the move and warning of fragmentation.
A prominent Muslim cleric who is one of the Muslim Brotherhood's most influential clerics denounced the self-rule announcement during a Friday sermon in Qatar where he's based.

Fort McKay is a Cree, Dené and Métis community in the heart of the oil sands in northern Alberta, Canada. In partnership with the Wood Buffalo Environmental Association, Fort McKay designed a long-term research project where they visit intact berry patches to share stories and TEK. The research team also observes berry health and quality and records perspectives on contamination. Many local berry patches have been disturbed and people do not trust berries that grow near oil sands developments, so people are now traveling greater distances to harvest. In 2013 the research team introduced scientific testing into the project by setting up passive air monitors in berry patches and sending berries to laboratories for testing. We will discuss the results from the testing, while contemplating the implications of verifying traditional knowledge with science in a context where expert knowledge, government regulations, and environmental impact assessments are driven by profit.

Recent research from the University of Alberta reveals that contrary to current scientific knowledge, there's no atmospheric lead pollution in the province's oil sands region.
William Shotyk, a soil and water scientist who specializes in heavy metal pollution, examined sphagnum moss from 21 separate peat bogs in three locations around the oil sands area, near open pit mines and processing facilities.
After measuring the heavy metal content in the moss samples in his ultra-clean lab at the University of Alberta, Shotyk, based in the Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences and his team compared them to moss samples of the same species in two areas in rural Germany that have the lowest concentrations of heavy metals in the country. What they found is that the Alberta mosses actually had lower concentrations of lead and other heavy metals.
"I found the lowest lead levels I've ever seen in moss," said Shotyk, who researched heavy metal pollution through moss in peat bogs for more than two decades in Europe before becoming the Bocock Chair in Agriculture and Environment at the University of Alberta.
The findings were recently published in the journal Environmental Science and Technology.
He said that in addition to lower concentrations of lead, he and his team also found lower concentrations of silver, cadmium, nickel, antimony and thallium, similar concentrations of molybdenum, and greater concentrations of barium, thorium and vanadium. The elevated concentrations of barium and thorium reflect the abundance of dust particles in the air whereas the vanadium concentrations are due to its abundance in the bitumen.
Moss is often used to measure heavy metal deposits in Europe and North America because it's an excellent indicator, Shotyk noted. "Whatever is in the air is in the moss."

This is a Documentary on on Oil Rich Kuwait After Kuwait Iraq War in High Definition
The Kuwaiti oil fires were caused by Iraqi military forces setting fire during the Gulf war to a reported 605 to 732 oil wells along with an unspecified number[quantify] of oil filled low-lying areas, such as "oil lakes" and "fire trenches", as part of a scorched earth policy while retreating from Kuwait in 1991 due to the advances of Coalition military forces in the Persian Gulf War. The fires of Kuwait War started in January and February 1991, and the first well fires were extinguished in early April 1991, with the last well capped on November 6, 1991.
The burning Kuwait Oil wells needed to be extinguished as without active efforts Kuwait would lose billions of dollars in oil revenues as it was predicted that the fires would burn from 2–5 years before losing pressure and going out on their own, optimists estimating 2 years and pessimists estimating 5 while the majority estimated 3 years until this occurred
The companies responsible for extinguishing the fires initially were Red Adair Company (now sold off to Global Industries of Louisiana), Boots and Coots, and Wild Well Control. Other companies including Safety Boss, Cudd Well/Pressure Control, Neal Adams Firefighters, and Kuwait Wild Well Killers were also contracted.
According to Larry H. Flak, a petroleum engineer for Boots and Coots International Well Control, 90% of all the 1991 fires in Kuwait were put out with nothing but sea water, sprayed from powerful hoses at the base of the fire. The water supply to the arid desert region was supplied by re-purposing the oil pipelines that prior to the arson attack, pumped oil to the Persian Gulf, the pipeline was mildly damaged and once repaired its flow was reversed to pump Persian gulf seawater to the burning oil wells. The extinguishing rate was approximately 1 every 7–10 days at the start of efforts but then with experience gained and the removal of the mine fields that surrounded the burning wells, the rate increased to 2 or more per day
For stubborn oil well fires, the use of a gas turbine to blast a large volume of water at high velocity at the fire proved popular with firefighters in Kuwait and was brought to the region by Hungarians equipped with MiG-21 engines mounted originally on a T34 (later replaced with T55) tank, called Big wind. It extinguished 9 fires in 43 days.
In fighting a fire at a directly vertical spewing wellhead, high explosives, such as dynamite were used to create a blast wave that pushes the burning fuel and local atmospheric oxygen away from the well. (This is a similar principle to blowing out a candle.) The flame is removed and the fuel can continue to spill out without catching on fire. Generally explosives were placed within 55 gallon drums, the explosives surrounded by fire retardant chemicals, and then the drums are wrapped with insulating material with a horizontal crane being used to bring the drum as close to the burning area as possible.
The firefighting teams titled their occupation as "Operation Desert Hell" after Operation Desert Storm

Azerbaijan in World War II. Objective Baku - Hitler Battle for Oil. National Geographic. Azerbaijan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CYx1lVBldw Azerbaijan, Baku, Hitler, Staling, Soviet Union, Battle of Stalingrad, Caspian Sea, Azeri People, Azerbaijani People.
Objective Baku - How Hitler Lost the Battle for Oil. National Geographic Documentary Commemorating to the Victory over Nazism during World War Two and pays tribute to Azerbaijan and Azerbaijani people contributed to The Great Victory.
The plot of the documentary reveals the role of the Azerbaijani people in defeating Nazism and the strategic importance of the Azerbaijani oil during the war.
In the course of the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945), 700 thousand men were drafted in Azerbaijan, 400 thousand out of them never made it back home. Meanwhile, Azerbaijan’s input to the war efforts was not only restricted to human resources. 128 residents of Azerbaijan were conferred on title of Hero of the Soviet Union for military valour and feats shown during World War II. Hazi Aslanov received this title twice. There were 42 ethnic Azerbaijanis who received the title of Hero of the Soviet Union and 14 of them were awarded posthumously. Lieutenant Israfil Mammadov was the first Azerbaijani who became Hero of the Soviet Union.
The role of the Azerbaijani oil in the Victory shall not be overseen. E.g. 72 per cent of the Soviet crude was produced in Baku. This implies that 7 out of 10 tanks or war planes were fuelled by Baku’s ‘black gold’.
Objective Baku took 14 months of substantial reseach in Azerbaijan, Germany, the US, the UK, France and Russia, with over 200 hours of videomaterials, photographs and other documents scrutinized.
The film provides a totally new approach to the history of World War II, i.e. through the prism of oil. The documentary also features some unique video snapshots of the WW2 battles never shown to this day in a totally new format of restored color film.
The Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic entered World War II with the whole Soviet Union, on June 22, 1941. German command gave the great consideration to oil pools of Baku and set a task to take Baku and oil and gas area of Baku under their control in the course of the Battle of the Caucasus.
Baku and the North Caucasus were the main oil sources for the whole economy of the USSR. Reserves of strategic raw materials such as deposit of tungsten-molybdenum ore were in these places. Loss of the Caucasus could cause a significant influence upon general course of the war against the USSR, and that is why Hitler had chosen namely this direction as the main Group of armies, created for attack to the Caucasus, was given coded identification “A”.
Tasks of the group “A” were the following: to surround and destroy the Southern Front in the southern and south-western parts of Rostov-on-Don, which drew off over the Don River, and to capture the North Caucasus; then it was intended to pass round Greater Caucasus with a group from the South, capturing Novorossiysk and Tuapse and with the other group from the East, capturing oil regions of Grozny and Baku. Simultaneously, it was intended to overcome the Dividing Ridge in its central part over its passes and entrance to Georgia, with a bypass manoeuvre.
German army approached the South Caucasus. Even the date of seizure of Baku – September 26, 1942 - was fixed. Defense regions were created around Nalchik, Vladikavkaz, Grozny, Makhachkala and Baku. The first stage of the battle of the Caucasus was from July to December, 1942. German-Romanian army, suffering a great loss, could reach foothills of Greater Caucasus and the Terek River. But, generally, “edelweiss” plan of Germany failed. Only during the 1st stage of the battle the “A” group of armies lost about 100,000 people and Germans couldn’t burst the South Caucasus and the Near East.
From August 25 to September 17, 1941 the Great Britain and the Soviet Union carried out a joint campaign under a code name “Consent”. Defense of Iranian oil deposits and pools and their capture by German army and their allies, and also defense of transportation corridor (southern corridor), along which allies supplied the Soviet Union according to Lend-Lease, was its main goal. During World War II, Rezā Shāh refused to deploy troops of the Great Britain and the Soviet Union at their request. But, for instance, according to the 5th and 6th points of the agreement between Soviet Russia and Iran of 1921, the USSR had a right to deploy its troops in the territory of Iran in case of appearance of any threat to its southern borders.
Armed forces of the allies invaded Iran, dethroned Reza Pahlavi and established their control over railway roads and oil deposits of the country, in course of the campaign. Meanwhile, troops of the United Kingdom occupied southern Iran, and troops of the Soviet Union – northern part of the country (Iranian Azerbaijan).

When you're valuing an E&P; (Exploration & Production) company, the Net Asset Value (NAV) Model is the key methodology.
By http://breakingintowallstreet.com/ "Financial Modeling Training And Career Resources For Aspiring Investment Bankers"
UNLIKE in a DCF, where cash flow growth is assumed into infinity, in a NAV model you assume the company's cash flows go to $0 eventually as it completely produces all of its reserves and has nothing left.
A granular NAV model is complex, but it comes down to a 2-step process:
Step 1: Model the company's existing production from wells it already has... and assume a decline rate for the annual production each year, also assuming commodity prices to determine revenue, and linking operating expenses to production and calculating cash flow like that.
Step 2: Assume the company drills new wells in its PUD (Proved Undeveloped), PROB (Probable), and POSS (Possible) reserves.
The second step involves dozens of sub-steps and assumptions, but here we're just going to focus on ONE small part of this process: estimating the decline rate of a new well the company drills.
It starts off at a very high production rate, but then declines quickly within even the first year of its useful life - and we need to estimate the decline rates each year to build the rest of the model.
You COULD do lots of complicated math, try fitting hyperbolic or exponential functions, run a regression analysis, etc., but we suggest a much simpler approach here: if the company doesn't disclose data on its decline rates for individual wells, find data from another company operating in the same region and fit it to your company's "average" wells.
How to Do That:
Step 1: Find the company's key data, such as the EUR per well and IP rate per well in the region you're looking at.
Step 2: Now, see if the company discloses data on its own decline rates... if so, you're set!
If not, or if it's not enough, find another company operating in the region that discloses more data (EQT here), and go to that company's investor presentations to get the numbers.
Step 3: In the first year, assume that production is some % of 365 * IP Rate per Well... because there is a huge drop-off in daily production from Month 1 to Month 12 in that first year.
EQT's data shows 45%; we assume 60% here since UPL has a slightly flatter decline curve.
Step 4: Copy and paste the other company's decline rates into each year of your decline curve.
Step 5: Enter the correct formula for calculating annual production each year AFTER the initial year... here:
=MIN(AU129*(1+AT130),$AT$126-SUM(AU$129:AU129))
Want to take either Last Year Production * (1 + Decline Rate) (the first part), or the total remaining reserves in this well (the second part).
Step 6: Set up Subtotal / Remainder / Total math and ensure that everything is produced.
Step 7: "Fit the data" using Goal Seek and the Factor - multiply each decline rate by a certain factor and use Goal Seek (Alt + A + W + G) to solve for the factor that makes the Subtotal equal to the EUR.
Step 8: Build in support for a different EUR by scaling the production up or down in the "Total" column.
Step 9: Allocate the production to oil vs. gas. vs. NGLs.
Step 10: Complete the Subtotal / Remainder / Total math at the bottom.
What Next?
Next, we'd complete this process for all the wells the company drills in every region, estimate revenue, expenses, and cash flow for each one, and then aggregate the discounted cash flow values in every region across all reserve types...
Which brings us closer to the implied NAV per share, which is what the NAV model is really all about.
Stay tuned for more!

By Namo Abdulla
Once an isolated, poverty- and war-stricken region of Iraq, Kurdistan has emerged as an influential oil power in the Middle East over the past few years.
Shortly after the 2003 U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, international oil companies including giants such as Exxon-Mobil, Total and Chevron arrived in this small autonomous region to exploit its abundant natural resources.
Last week, Kurdistan attracted more global attention from politicians and businessmen alike after Turkey agreed to enter a multi-billion oil and gas deal with it.
But there's one problem: Kurdistan's aggressive pursuit of an independent oil policy has infuriated Iraq's central government in Baghdad, which considers all of the region's hydrocarbon deals illegal.
Baghdad says it retains the sole authority over the country's oil industry, and fears that independent moves by Kurdistan would end up in the demise of the country as a unified entity.
Kurdistan rejects that claim saying that its oil policy benefits the whole of Iraq since the revenues will eventually be redistributed to all Iraqis.
What is the U.S.'s stance toward Kurdistan's oil policy? Does it share Baghdad's fears that Kurdistan's increasingly independent economy leads to the emergence of an independent Kurdish state?
Joining me to discuss this subject is:
- Joshua Walker, a writer who has recently written an extensive report on Turkey-KRG relations. He's also the president of Global Programs at APCO Worldwide.

Oil & Gas Stock Pitch: How to Research and Present It

In this tutorial, you'll learn how to research, structure, and present an oil & gas stock pitch.
More at http://www.mergersandinquisitions.com/oil-gas-stock-pitch/
You'll also learn how it's different from investment recommendations and stock pitches in other industries.
We'll use Ultra Petroleum [UPL] as the example company, and present a SHORT recommendation based on a detailed analysis of their filings, investor presentations, and earnings call transcripts, along with a complex Net Asset Value (NAV) Model, based on individual wells drilled in different regions.
Table of Contents:
1:19 The Structure of an Oil & Gas Stock Pitch
3:15 Investment Thesis
6:19 Catalysts
10:42 Valuation
13:38 Risk Factors
15:51 Why This Recommendation Was Wrong
19:25 Recap and Summary
Investment Thesis
Why is the company mis-priced? How does the market view it, and why is everyone else wrong?
Here, we cite 3 reasons:
1. The company has overstated its average EUR per well in some regions, which means its reserves may be overstated or otherwise inaccurate.
2. Cutting capital expenditures (D&C; Costs) and operating expenses (LOE) over time makes less of an impact on the company's implied value than they claim it does - being a low-cost producer is nice, but even substantial reductions over time don't boost the value by all that much.
3. Drilling in Pennsylvania may be stopped or reduced due to the company's JV partners, and the market hasn't yet factored in the chances of that happening and the impact on the company's implied value.
Catalysts
A few examples of potential catalysts:
Oil & Gas-Specific: Reserve Reports / Drill Results, Well Drilling Schedules / Expanded or Reduced Drilling, Produce / No Produce Decisions, New Technology Deployment to reduce D&C; Costs, Improved Well Spacing, Pipeline Developments, Hedging Contract Changes
More Generic: Geographic Expansion, Acquisitions or Divestitures, Earnings Announcements, Competitors' Activities, Financing Activities
For UPL, we use these 3 catalysts:
1. The close of the $650 million Uinta Basin acquisition.
2. The release of new reserve reports from the company's existing regions.
3. The possible halt to drilling in the Marcellus shale of Pennsylvania.
For each one, we show the implied per share impact on the company based on the NAV model.
Valuation
We use the NAV model here, lay out our assumptions in the beginning, and then mostly focus on the OUTPUT of the model to avoid pasting in sheets and sheets of Excel.
With the NAV Model, you split the company into existing production (PDP and PDNP) and new production (PUD, PROB, and POSS), make "high-level" estimates for the existing production, and assume a decline rate over time.
For the others, assume that a certain # of new wells are drilled each year, assume that they start producing at a certain level and then decline to 0 over time, and then project the revenue, expenses, CapEx, and cash flow for each region and reserve type...
Finally, you sum up everything at the end.
The main point is to show that the assumption we're MOST uncertain of - EUR per well - makes a huge difference on the valuation...
...While other assumptions, such as the D&C; Costs and LOE per well, make a smaller difference and so it doesn't matter much even if the company can reduce those costs.
Risk Factors
You can "reverse" the catalysts and ask, "What happens if this catalyst does NOT happen, or what if the results are different than expected?"
Our top risk factors are:
1. The $650 million Uinta Basin acquisition fails to close.
2. Even if the acquisition does close, initial drilling reports might be positive and indicate higher-than-expected reserve levels.
3. Full drilling continues in the Marcellus shale as natural gas prices recover.
4. The company's improved well spacing pilots prove successful, and it is able to increase its effective EUR per well.
So the first 3 are "reversals" of the catalysts, and we therefore also assess the implied per share impact from them.
The last risk factor is more of an "X Factor" type of item that might cause the company's reserves to jump up dramatically if executed well.
Why This Recommendation Was Wrong
First off, gas prices spiked up to very high levels ($7.00 - $8.00) due to an unusually cold winter.
That killed the "Short" recommendation since all oil & gas companies become more valuable when commodity prices spike up.
Next, the company beat revenue and EPS consensus estimates twice in the past 6-7 months after this pitch; equity research analysts also upgraded their ratings on the stock.
Finally, the stock had already fallen substantially in the past 2-3 years before this... so our timing wasn't great.
How to Avoid Disaster: We recommended setting a buy-stop order at $23.00 - $24.00 / share to limit our losses. That would have limited our losses to ~25%.
