Rob Swift (born Robert Aguilar) is an American hip hop DJ and turntablist. He was a former member of the turntablist group The X-Ecutioners in late 2005 and 2006, with Mike Patton’s project Peeping Tom.
From January 2010 through May 2015, Swift has hosted the online hip-hop radio show Dope on Plastic on Scion A/V Streaming Radio 17.
In August 2012, Swift became the resident DJ for a new late night college sports TV talk show on ESPNU called UNITE.
In September 2014, Swift became a Professor at the New School for Liberal Arts in New York City. He is currently teaching the Dj Skills & Styles course and his research includes Hip Hop History and culture as well as Musical Composition via turntable techniques. http://www.newschool.edu/lang/faculty.aspx?id=101905
Early life
Born and raised in Jackson Heights, Queens, by Colombian heritage, Swift (born Robert Aguilar) began DJing at the age of 12 by watching his father and brother. “My dad was a salsa and merengue DJ. My brother learned how to scratch and do all the hip hop deejaying stuff on my dad’s equipment (without his permission) and I’d sit there and watch him. When I entered the sixth grade, I decided I wanted to learn.” So unlike those who were influenced through hip hop records, DMC and NMS tapes, or movies, Swift educated himself with the classic turntable beats of the early 1980s New York playground pioneers while listening to funk and jazz at home. “My older brother exposed me to all that,” he says. “All the stuff I create as a DJ is rooted in the songs that I heard from Bob James, Herbie Hancock and James Brown to Quincy Jones and old DJs like Grandmaster Flash and Grand Wizard Theodore. That’s where my roots are.”

Swift
The swifts are a family, Apodidae, of highly aerial birds. They are superficially similar to swallows, but are not closely related to any of the passerine species. Swifts are placed in the order Apodiformes, which they share with hummingbirds. The treeswifts are closely related to the true swifts, but form a separate family, the Hemiprocnidae.
Resemblances between swifts and swallows are due to convergent evolution, reflecting similar life styles based on catching insects in flight.
The family name, Apodidae, is derived from the Greek ἄπους (ápous), meaning "footless", a reference to the small, weak legs of these most aerial of birds. The tradition of depicting swifts without feet continued into the Middle Ages, as seen in the heraldic martlet.
Some species of swifts are among the fastest animals on the planet, with some of the fastest measured flight speeds of any bird.
Taxonomy
Taxonomists have long classified swifts and treeswifts as relatives of the hummingbirds, a judgement corroborated by the discovery of the Jungornithidae (apparently swift-like hummingbird-relatives) and of primitive hummingbirds such as Eurotrochilus. Traditional taxonomies place the hummingbird family (Trochilidae) in the same order as the swifts and treeswifts (and no other birds); the Sibley-Ahlquist taxonomy treated this group as a superorder in which the swift order was called Trochiliformes.

I'm crazy tired. After a long 90 days of RECORDING my album and REHEARSING for this weekend's Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival, I finally had some downtime today and now I'm just RELAXING!
We're 258 Backers deep, over 14k high in funds and less than 40 hours away from ending my Kickstarter campaign to release my next full length album X-Files: Lost & Deleted. Let's finish strong and go hard over the last days of the campaign. Tell your friends about the project. Let them know ya boy Brolic Arm is doing his part to preserve the essence of Hip Hop!

Big shout to my team! Specifically, my road manager Guds. This dude's been there to witness every moment of my rise as a DJ. From cuttin' it up on my Dad's turntables in my parent's living room to cuttin' it up on stage at the biggest Hip Hop festival in NYC. Thank you Guds for holdin' me down for so long. I love you mang! To my sound tech Jaime Marks, you're dependable and loyal. Those are attributes that mean the most to me in any relationship. I call you my sound tech but the truth is you're as much of a brother to me as Guds is. Thank you for setting things up nice and proper like for Sinista and I. To Paul Lee aka The Large Professor aka Extra P, it's not like we haven't rocked a crowd that deep together before, cause we have. Regardless of that though, you've helped me in my development as a producer and recording artist and having you to walk out on that stage with was a serious honor. XP!!!

As you get more and more comfortable with your drops, add "baby scratches" otherwise known as fader-less scratching. Don't get stuck executing your cuts one way though. The point of scratching is to enhance the listening experience of the music you're scratching to for your audience so BE EXPRESSIVE!!! Find your own distinct "baby scratch" rhythms. There's a plethora that exist, tap into them... #WeTalkinBoutPractice

What I mean by that is a lot of upcoming DJs strive to be like those they look up to. So with Rob Swift at the driver's seat, we're passengers on his creative, musical journey to develop himself as a DJ. What separates "As the Technics Spin" from other related DVDs in the market is it's focus on Rob Swift's thought process while creating his classic battle/showcase sets. From choosing his records, deciding what sections to manipulate within different songs, to eventually developing the actual routines. Here’s me, performing in front of a dude whom I consider a LEGEND in this industry – needless to say, nerves were flowing. Our conversation that night helped put things into perspective and really showed me that his character was equally as impactful as his skills behind the turntables. I could go on & on about his accomplishments, but I’ll let Rob tell you a little bit about himself!

So with Rob Swift at the driver's seat, we're passengers on his creative, musical journey to develop himself as a DJ.
