Michael McGlynn (born 1964 in Dublin, Ireland) is an Irish composer, producer, director and founder of Anúna.
McGlynn was born in Dublin, and attended Coláiste na Rinne and Blackrock College. He was a student of Music and English at University College Dublin and Trinity College where he studied for an M.Litt degree. He was a member of the professional choral ensemble the RTÉ Chamber Choir and in 1987 he founded the Irish choral group Anúna. Anúna have released fourteen albums, almost exclusively featuring his arrangements and original works. "Deep Dead Blue" was nominated for a Classical Brit Award in 2000 and went top 5 in the UK Classical Charts. "Anúna : Celtic Origins" was the biggest selling World Music CD in the USA in August 2007 according to Nielsen Soundscan , and remains in the top twenty albums of the Billboard World Music Charts in early 2008. Although best known as a writer of choral music, Michael has written orchestral and instrumental work. 2007 saw the premiere of the cantata "St. Francis" commissioned by RTÉ, the Irish National broadcaster, which is a setting of texts associated with Francis of Assisi for tenor, choir and symphony orchestra. "Behind the Closed Eye", written for the Ulster Orchestra, Northern Ireland's premiere orchestra, has been successful as a CD release.

Anúna is an Irish choral ensemble. Founded in 1987 by Michael McGlynn under the name An Uaithne, the group has recorded 17 albums, and achieved a high level of international success. Almost all of their repertoire is composed or arranged by McGlynn.
McGlynn formed the choir An Uaithne in 1987, with their earliest concerts featuring medieval Irish and European music, contemporary choral pieces by Irish composers and Irish folk arrangements. He has stated "My interest in traditional song stemmed from my schooldays in Ring College in Dungarvan, and I also felt a need to explore and communicate my enthusiasm for medieval music, most particularly Irish medieval music, to the general public. The eclectic repertoire that characterises the music of Anúna was born in this way". McGlynn re-set and rearranged historical texts and reconstructions of medieval Irish music. These included the 12th century pieces "Dicant Nunc" and "Cormacus Scripsit", both of which come from Irish manuscripts and featured in the repertoire of An Uaithne. Other reconstructions including "Miserere Miseris" from the Dublin Troper and "Quem Queritis" from The Dublin Play continue to feature in the repertoire of Anúna. McGlynn has said "I think that one of the purposes of Anúna has been to open the door of obscurity to some of the many medieval pieces that we've recorded".
Sheet music is a handwritten or printed form of music notation that uses modern musical symbols to indicate the pitches (melodies) and rhythms of a song or musical piece. Like its analogs – books, pamphlets, etc. – the medium of sheet music typically is paper (or, in earlier times, parchment), although the access to musical notation since the 1980s has included the presentation of musical notation on computer screens. Use of the term "sheet" is intended to differentiate written or printed music from a sound recording, radio or TV broadcast or a recorded live performance, which may capture film or video footage or the performance as well as the audio component. In everyday use, "sheet music" (or simply "music") can refer to the print publication of commercial music in conjunction with the release of a new film, TV show, record album, or other special or popular event which involves music. The first printed sheet music was made in 1473.
Sheet music is the basic form in which Western classical music is notated so that it can be performed by solo singers or instrumentalists or musical ensembles. Many forms of traditional and popular Western music are commonly learned by singers and musicians "by ear", rather than by using sheet music (although in many cases, traditional and pop music may also be available in sheet music form).

Michael /ˈmaɪkəl/ is a male given name that comes from the Hebrew: מִיכָאֵל / מיכאל (Mīkhāʼēl, pronounced [miχaˈʔel]), derived from the question מי כאל mī kāʼēl, meaning "Who is like God?" (literally, "Who is like El?). In English, it is sometimes shortened to Mike, Mikey, Mickey, or Mick.
Female forms of Michael include Michelle, Michele, Michaela, Mechelle, Micheline, and Michaelle, although Michael is occasionally seen as a female name; women named Michael include actresses Michael Learned and Michael Michele. Another form is Mychal, which can either be a male or female name.

You will notice from my uploads, I'm a fan of Anuna and Michael McGynn. I first came on to Francis Ledwidge's poetry thanks to Mr. McGlynn, when I made the following video. www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQMWBcGd2K8 It's been said that most women prefer to hear a male voice and what's better than several males singing? There's no deep message to this but a lovely piece of writing. As a former choral director I appreciate the music and the musicianship here as well.

Alas, my love, but you do me wrong
To cast me off discourteously
For I have loved you so long
Delighting in your company
Greensleeves was all my joy
Greensleeves was my delight
Greensleeves was my heart of gold
And who but my Lady Greensleeves
I have been ready at your hand
To grant whatever you would crave
I have both waged life and land
Your love and goodwill for to have
Greensleeves was all my joy
Greensleeves was my delight
Greensleeves was my heart of gold
