Performance begins at 1:48 minutes. Eric Singer is an engineer, programmer, roboticist and artist. He holds a BS in Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon; a Diploma in Music Synthesis, Magna Cum Laude, from Berklee College of Music; and an MS in Computer Science from New York University. He has over 20 years of experience in the areas of real-time systems, embedded processing, software/hardware integration, interactive and networked multimedia systems, and electronic musical instrument design. He performs and lectures around the world and teaches a wide range of subjects integrating art, technology and creative engineering. He is known internationally for his software and hardware products for interactive art and music creation and is considered a leading expert in the use of sensors and robotics in multimedia systems. He has also been an Adjunct Professor at the New York University Interactive Telecommunication Program and is currently an Adjunct Professor at the Carnegie Mellon University College of Fine Arts. Singer’s performance for Cyborgs of Sound will include LEMUR robots performing mystery robot music fit for human consumption. LEMUR: League of Electronic Musical Urban Robots is a group of artists and technologists who create robotic musical instruments. Founded in 2000 by Eric Singer, LEMUR creates exotic, sculptural musical instruments which integrate robotic technology. The result is computer-controlled mechanized acoustic musical instruments which can perform music by and with human musicians. LEMUR is based in Brooklyn, NY and Pittsburgh, PA. LEMUR has been supported by grants from the National Endownment for the Arts (NEA), the Rockefeller Foundation, the New York State Council on the Arts, the Jerome Foundation, the Greenwall Foundation, the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation, the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, the Trust for Mutual Understanding, the Experimental Television Center and Materials for the Arts. The watsON? NOISE Festival 2013 - Curated by Golan Levin and Spike Wolff Noise continually surrounds us, from white static to violent intensity. We are absorbed into, embraced by, and assaulted with sound. Vibrating through our bodies, we capitulate as it engulfs us and permeates our psyche. In the still of its quiet absence and the thrill of its deafening roar, the force of sound is a constant. wats:ON? 2013 explores the realm of noise through a variety of analog, digital, and apparatus enhanced sound-music performances. Noise asks you to surrender to the possibility of the rush of the sublime. The Jill Watson Festival Across the Arts (wats:ON?) was created to honor the life of Jill Watson, whose interest in the arts inspired others through her work and her teaching. The festival celebrates Jill’s commitment to an interdisciplinary philosophy as an artist and celebrates her accomplishments and reputation as an architect. Jill Watson was a Carnegie Mellon University alumna, adjunct faculty member in the School of Architecture, and acclaimed Pittsburgh architect who died in the TWA Flight 800 plane crash on July 17, 1996.
