(01:31) Step 2 - Go to Tools and install "Skyrim Creation Kit"! (02:05) Step 2.5 - To use DLC, edit the SkyrimEditor.ini in your Skyrim folder (02:49) Usually located in your program files-Steam-steamapps-common-Skyrim, find it and add: "bAllowMultipleMasterLoads=1" at the top, under General. Then go down to the SResourceArchiveList2, and make sure it says: "SResourceArchiveList2=Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Update.bsa, Dawnguard.bsa, Dragonborn.bsa, HearthFires.bsa" Step 3 - Load the Master Files you want! (06:43) Step 4 - Save the file as a new .esp! (09:37) Save it as something you'll remember, this is the file you will load up later, the file where all your alterations are stored. Choose "set as active file" when loading this, and remember to set it active in the Skyrim Launcher under "Data Files" before playing Skyrim. Step 4.5 - Decide on a prefix to use, it helps! (11:16) In a software as big as the Creation Kit, it's important to have a prefix. In my case, this is "VFTD", meaning a file name could be: "VFTDIronSword" if it was a modified iron sword. You can also easily filter out items ONLY containing your prefix that way! Step 5 - Choose a base NPC to edit! (13:16) You CAN start from scratch, but for this video I decided to pick the character Addvild and quickly rename it to VFTDManMan, our follower. DO NOT OVERWRITE ANY FILES, always choose to make it into a new form when editing the base assets of Skyrim. This gives us some of the basic behaviors of an NPC, but we still have to tweak quite a lot before he is ready! Step 6 - Make sure your NPC has a clear prefix and ID! (14:48) Step 7 - Select an appropriate voice! (16:37) Not all voice types are compatible with followers, here's a list to see what voices can do what: Voices for followers who can marry and adopt: - Male: Brute, EvenToned, Nord, Orc, YoungEager - Female: Commander, Sultry, YoungEager Voices for followers who can marry: - Male: Argonian, EvenToned, EvenTonedAccented, DarkElf, Drunk - Female: DarkElf, EvenToned, Orc Voices for spouses who can adopt: - Male: CommonerAccented, Condescending, SlyCynical - Female: Commoner, Coward, ElfHaughty, Nord Voices for follower who can adopt: Female: Condescending Voices for only followers: Male: Khajiit Voices for only spouses: - Male: Commoner, Coward - Female: Argonian, Shrill Step 8 - Setting the follower faction correctly! (18:52) Under the "Factions" tab, make a new form, and select "CurrentFollowerFaction" and set the rank to -1 Then make a new form and select: "PotentialFollowerFaction" and set that rank to 0 Step 9 - Force the poor fool into being in a relationship with you! (19:25) Under the "Relationships" tab, make a new relationship, and set the Parent NPC to be your current follower, set the Child NPC to be "Player" and set the Relationship Level to be "Ally". Step 10 - GO NUTS! Be creative when customizing your NPC! (20:04) Step 11 - BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! (37:07) Unless you want your NPC to have a discolored face and miss some features, you need to select the NPC in the Actors List once you are done adjusting him, and hit ALT GR + F4. ALT GR is the ALT key to the right of your spacebar. That should prompt you to export face gen data, say yes to this. Trust me. Step 12 - Spawn him in! (38:53) Now that you've made him, we haven't actually placed him in a room (which can be done easily by opening a location from the Cell View and then dropping your NPC from the Actor List into the Render Window), which means that we have to spawn him in in-game. Press the TILDE key (~) (aka the button above your TAB key, and under Escape), and it will open up the console command. Type in "help (actor name)" and you should get up his ID, you might have to scroll up or down with the Page Up and Page Down keys. Once you find it, type in "player.placeatme (XXxxXXxx) (the ID you see on the screen) and then he should appear next to you. Talk to him, and you should be able to get him on your team!
