An A-frame is a basic structure designed to bear a load in a lightweight economical manner. The simplest form of an A-frame is two similarly sized beams, arranged in a 45-degree or less angle, attached at the top. These materials are often wooden or steel beams attached at the top by rope, welding, gluing, or riveting.
Because they have only two "legs", A-frames are usually set up in rows so that they can have good stability. A saw horse is a good example of this structure. More complex structures will have a crossmember connecting the two materials in the middle to prevent the legs from bowing outwards under load, giving the structure the appearance of the capital letter A.
http://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/59499017/video/houzz-tv-showing-her-creative-side-in-a-classic-los-angeles-a-frame Los Angeles ceramics artist and interior designer Desanka Fasiska’s 1963 A-frame kit house seemed to have more working against it than for it. The slanted walls made furniture arrangement awkward and didn’t offer much insulation or a place to run electricity and pipes. But Fasiska pushed forward, embracing the strangeness and creating an open-plan home with enough spunk to live up to the stunning exposed architecture.

Check out Deek Tiny House/Cabin/Treehouse n' Fort concept and idea book "Humble Homes, Simple Shacks" HERE- http://www.amazon.com/Humble-Simple-Cottages-Ramshackle-Retreats/dp/0762771461/ref=cm_cr-mr-title In this short video, Derek "Deek" Diedricksen (Tiny Yellow House, HGTV/DIY Network) shows us a project he designed, and has been working to finish (with publisher/author Lloyd Kahn) at a Home and Garden Show in North Carolina put on by Southern Shows. This "half A-frame" cabin stands at almost 15' high, has a sleep-able small loft, and an 80 square foot base. With new materials, it would cost about $2000 to build, and could be used as an art studio, guest house, tiny house, backwoods vacation or hunting cabin, or a yoga retreat- even a large greenhouse.
Over the past couple months i worked on my Long term A frame shelter. **The only green wood used for this shelter was used for the HORIZONTAL BEAMS** The PINE BARK came off of DEAD standing pine trees** It is an all season shelter that should survive many winters to come. If you have any questions let me know in the comment section below!
Tiny A-frame Cabin in the Woods Here’s a simple and relatively tiny A-frame cabin in the woods. It was built in 1968 in the woods of Dorrington, California. Once you go inside you’ll see it has a classic firewood stove made out of cast iron. A simple staircase system takes you upstairs to the bedroom and loft hangout with balcony.
Derek Deek Diedricksen's book, "Humble Homes, Simple Shacks", will soon have a follow-up, or sorts, which will feature various cabins and shelters that he has designed and built for people- perhaps this one will be included, WHEN DONE. This cabin was built at his "Tiny House Summer Camp" workshop (one or two cabins) in 2012, and for a budget of $300, most of which was the roofing- metal and tuftex (but well worth it!). This cabin will be shown in a follow-up video at some point once completed.

It was another warm day and I worked on the A frame tiny chicken house on wheels. was mostly working on the siding on the house part of the mobile chicken tractor. I am using free pallet wood to build this chicken tractor. The only problem is that I am using the pallets that I rejected for use in my own tiny house construction. These pallets are far from perfect and have many broken or cracked boards and other flaws. This meant that it took me a long time and about 12 pallets before I had enough good boards for the chicken tractor siding. I am using an overlapped pattern where each board goes on horizontally and overlaps the board under it to provide better rain runoff. In the future though I think I will lay the boards flat on my next build because with the tar paper water leaking into...
"The time has come," the Wiener said,
"To talk of many things.
Of popes and dope and kings.
And why the sea is boiling hot,
And whether cops have wings."
Remember five long years ago?
Those were good times that may never come again
Now everything is justified
Is that tough but fair?
The time has come to look me in the eye
And tell me all the things
That I have told you
You can claim to have invented them
It might even be true
I guess we failed, at least we tried
Things could be worse, we might have died
