Lara Logan and Dorothy Parvaz Accept The 2011 John Aubuchon Award
Each year, the National Press Club confers its John Aubuchon Press Freedom Award on two people whose actions contribute to the cause of press freedom and open government. Aubuchon was a late NPC president and an ardent advocate of press freedom. This year's honorees both covered the uprisings in the Mideast and both faced horrific repression. The international winner of the Aubuchon prize was Dorothy Parvaz of al Jazeera, who was detained in brutal prisons filled with political detainees in Syria and Iran. The domestic winner was Lara Logan of CBS News and 60 Minutes, who was attacked by a mob in Cairo earlier this year. Watch the riveting testimony of Parvaz and Logan as they accepted their awards at an Aug. 10, 2011 ceremony at the Club.

Iran wants Syria to probe missing journalist
Iran demands the government of Syria to look into the case of an Al Jazeera English journalist who has been missing in Syria since Friday afternoon. Dorothy Parvaz left Doha, Qatar, for Syria on Friday to help cover events currently taking place in the country. However, there has been no contact with the 39-year-old since she disembarked from a Qatar Airways flight in Damascus. Parvaz is an American, Canadian and Iranian citizen. Ali Akbar Salehi, the Iranian foreign minister, told Al Jazeera that Iran demands the Syrians to look into the case. "I hope that it is not true, but if that is the case, then we demand the government of Syria to look into this," Salehi said, while on official visit to Doha. Parvaz joined Al Jazeera in 2010 and recently reported on the Japanese earthquake and tsunami for the network.

Dorothy Parvaz heard beatings round the clock during illegitimate detention in Syria. May 18, 2011
Aljazeera reporter witnessed torture in Syrian prisons. "Beatings around the clock" "The majority detained were NOT protesters" Question: How does a legitimate government detain someone on "spying charges" upon entering the country??? A just government would either allow or deny entry - definitely not detain on illegitimate grounds!!! TRULY THE ASSAD AND HIS MAFIA ARE CRIMINALS AND MUST BE WIPED OFF PLANET EARTH.
