Severe storms approach Oklahoma City. The severe weather that impacted the area had numerous tornadoes and the National Weather Service was and EF5 that packed winds reaching 295 mph. The weather service also said the twister's 2.6 mile width is the widest ever recorded.

Tropical Storm Chantal formed Tuesday between Bermuda and Massachusetts, becoming the third named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season. It could carry heavy rain to Canada but was not expected to threaten the United States, forecasters said. The storm had maximum sustained wind of 50 mph and was centered about 300 miles south of Halifax, Nova Scotia, or some 600 miles east of New York City, at 11 a.m. EDT, according to the National Hurricane Center.
