BBC Documentary: Sun Ra, Brother From Another Planet
Please check my jazzblog at http://jazzpages.tumblr.com
Sun Ra was born on the planet Saturn some time ago. The best accounts agree that he emerged on Earth as Herman Blount, born in Birmingham, Alabama in 1914, although Sun Ra himself always denied that Blount was his surname. He returned to Saturn in 1993 after creating a stunningly variegated and beautiful assemblage of earthly and interplanetary music, most notably with his fervently loyal Arkestra.
Sun Ra and his Arkestra were the subject of a few documentary films, notably Robert Mugge's 'A Joyful Noise' (1980), which interspersed performances and rehearsals with Sun Ra's commentary on various subjects ranging from today's youth to his own place in the cosmos.
Today's documentary, Don Letts' 'Sun Ra, Brother From Another Planet' from 2005, reuses some of Mugge's material and includes some additional interviews.

A Process of Change
My idea was to make the new bridge in my city the focal point of my photo, which gets its design from the iconic Golden Gate Bridge. The problem with taking a photo at this time of year in Fuyang, is that there is no sun. It has rained almost every day for the last two weeks. So the pictures did not seem to pop to me. Instead I changed the focal point from the new bridge the to cultural garden next to it. I thought this might be a good location, because of its historical significance. This was once the home of Sun Quan, who was the Lord of the Wu Kingdom during the Three Kingdoms period in Chinese history. Also it is the home of the surname, Sun, which is the 12th most populous surname in China. So my second photo is a picture of the entrance, and the temple on top of the hill. I think this picture perfectly fits in with the two thirds rule. However that was not what I was going for, so I decided to walk up the hill. After a total of 664 steps, I finally arrived at the shot that I thought was quite compelling. The third photo is a shot of the entire cultural garden, and the bridge from my first photo is still in the background. I tend to like lines in photos, so the picture changed from being one continuos horizontal line to being a series of diagonal lines. I think its much more picturesque than just showing the bridge or the front gate. Overall the perspective of the river valley is much greater. I also think that the layout of the lake helps the photo. Because the lines in the background are diagonal, and the lake is naturally curvy, it seems to contrast well. In all this photo, summed up many things that are important to me. I originally went to school for architecture, but changed my major to Ancient Chinese history. So I hope you can follow along with my train of thought, from the bridge to the culture garden, to the above shot encompassing them both.

Footballer Ashley Cole's former WAG Cheryl Cole has finally dropped her marital surname.
On all future material the pop singer will be known just by her first name, Cheryl. A source tells The Sun,"She's not removing Cole legally, it's just a career statement. She's in a really good place at the moment and wants to take life by the balls."
The Girls Aloud singer insisted on keeping her marital surname after separating from her husband last year, but it seems she's finally ready to put that roller coaster of a relationship behind her.

Elmore James - The Sun Is Shining.wmv
lmore James was born on January 27, 1918 in Richland, Mississippi, to Leola Brooks. (His true father is not known).
Elmore James
He was given the surname of his stepfather, Joe Willie James, at birth. He moved around often as a child around the Delta, and regularly took time off from cotton picking to pick his "Diddley" bow, a primitive instrument involving one string nailed to the side of a barn. He purchased a real guitar, a $20 National, as an early teenager, and was hired playing house parties, jukes, etc. After a brief period of teaming up with his cousin, "Homesick" James Williamson, young Elmore struck out on his own for a while, playing gigs all over the Delta area, and making acquaintances with musicians such as Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup, Johnny Temple, and Luther Huff.
By 1937, Elmore had relocated to Greenville, Mississippi, and had met and played with Sonny Boy Williamson (II) and Robert Junior Lockwood, Robert Johnson's unofficial stepson. Soon later, Elmore met Johnson himself, and interperated a tune that Robert had wrote called "I Believe I'll Dust My Broom". A year later, however, Johnson was murdered, and Elmore moved out of the area, fearing the same fate. James took up a job in his stepbrother's radio shop, playing in frequent gigs with Sonny Boy, and even joining the Army between 1943 and 1945. After his service, he reunited with both Sonny Boy and Homesick James, who both had radio shows on KFFA in Helena, MI. Elmore was given some time on the shows, performing "Dust My Broom", but caused little stir.
In 1951, Lillian McMurry, an independent record producer, heard Elmore and was motivated to commit him to vinyl. His first recording was, of course, "Dust My Broom".
Elmore James
Elmore was incredibly shy, and when he recorded the classic, he didn't even know he was recording; producers had tricked him into thinking he was rehearsing! After he was betrayed in this manner, he refused to record a B-Side, so another artist was used. The single was put out without his approval and shot straight to #9 on the R&B; charts in 1952. Later that year, he signed with the Bihari Brothers, and settled down in Chicago with his backing band, The Broomdusters. He even recorded a few singles for Chess Records, but they didn't do well. Elmore spent the rest of the 50's moving back and forth between Chicago and Mississippi, depending on who wanted to hear his music more. In 1957, he was discovered to have an ailing heart condition, but this didn't keep him from the road. Lack of steady success drove him to a job as a DJ in Mississippi, though he still regularly recorded.
Elmore was once again reborn, so to speak, when he signed with Fire Records in 1959. He recorded for this label until 1962, when problems with the musicians union forced him to stop working union jobs. By 1963, his problems with the union were all but over, and a recording date was set for May 24, 1963. Just as he was preparing to go to the studio for that session, Elmore James succumbed to his heart condition. He was 45 years old.

(An Old Irish Blessing)
From the album 'Grace' (Spirit Voyage Records 2004).
Snatam, a Sanskrit word, meaning universal, nucleus, and friend to all; Kaur, a Punjabi word and a faith-mandated surname for all Sikh women, means a princess and lioness; and Khalsa, a Sikh term that defines the Order of the Pure; Snatam truly embodies a rare composite of those qualities through her devotional music and her radiant persona.

HOUSE OF THE RISING Sun .wizardofbaum..TODD ELLIOT and LESLIE WEST
Originally named Leslie Weinstein, West was born in New York City, grew up in Hackensack, New Jersey, and in East Meadow, Forest Hills and Lawrence.[1] After his parents divorced, he changed his surname to West. His musical career began with The Vagrants, an R&B;/Blue-eyed soul-rock band influenced by the likes of The Rascals that was one of the few teenage garage rock acts to come out of the New York metropolitan area itself (as opposed to the Bohemian Greenwich Village scene of artists, poets and affiliates of the Beat Generation, which produced bands like The Fugs and The Velvet Underground). The Vagrants had two minor hits in the Eastern US: 1966's "I Can't Make a Friend" and a cover of Otis Redding's "Respect" the following year.
Some of the Vagrants' recordings were produced by Felix Pappalardi, who was also working with Cream on their album Disraeli Gears). In 1969, West and Pappalardi would form the pioneering hard rock act Mountain, which was also the title of West's debut solo album. The group's name is widely believed to have been inspired by West's then-considerable physical bulk, although he subsequently lost a substantial amount of weight. Initially the group did not feature a keyboardist, but one was later added to the band to keep them from seeming like a Cream imitation. Rolling Stone identified the band as a 'louder version of Cream'.[2] With Steve Knight on keyboards and original drummer, N. D. Smart, the band appeared on the second day of the Woodstock Festival on Saturday, August 16, 1969 starting an 11-song set at 9PM.
The band's original incarnation saw West and Pappalardi sharing vocal duties and playing guitar and bass, respectively. New drummer Corky Laing joined the band shortly after Woodstock. They had success with "Mississippi Queen", which reached #21 on the Billboard charts and #4 in Canada. It was followed by the Jack Bruce-penned "Theme For an Imaginary Western". Mountain is one of the bands considered to be forerunners of heavy metal music.[

There is a house in New Orleans
They call the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy
And God I know I'm one
My mother was a tailor
She sewed my new blue jeans
My father was a gamblin' man
Down in New Orleans
Now the only thing a gambler needs
Is a suitcase and trunk
And the only time he's satisfied
Is when he's on a drunk
Oh mother tell your children
Not to do what I have done
Spend your lives in sin and misery
In the House of the Rising Sun
Well, I got one foot on the platform
The other foot on the train
I'm goin' back to New Orleans
To wear that ball and chain
Well, there is a house in New Orleans
They call the Rising Sun
And it's been the ruin of many a poor boy
And God I know I'm one

"The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore" by Daddy C
My cover of The Walker Brothers' 1966 classic hit, "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore". Written by Bob Crewe and Bob Gaudio, the song was intended as a vehicle to launch Frankie Valli's solo career. Frankie Valli recorded & released the song in early 1966, to little success. In 1964, three musicians from Los Angeles formed a band and called themselves The Walker Brothers. Scott Engel, John Maus and Gary Leeds, though unrelated, all adopted the surname, Walker. Gary, who had previously toured with P.J. Proby in the U.K., suggested they move to England to give it a go. They provided a unique counterpoint in that they were a group from the United States that only achieved significant success in the United Kingdom and Germany, while the popularity of bands, such as The Beatles spread to the U.S. In 1965, they released a cover of Jerry Butler's "Make It Easy On Yourself". By August of that year, the record had entered the U.K. top 10, eventually reaching #1. By the end of the year, it had reached #16 on the U.S. charts. In 1966, they recorded "The Sun", which was basically the same arrangement as Frankie Valli's version, and lightning struck twice. The record shot to #1 in the U.K. and again entered the top 20 in the U.S. My version, while remaining as true to the original as possible, has significant changes in the instrumentation, although keeping the classic style of Phil Spector's "Wall Of Sound". Hope you enjoy my take on it.
Peace,
Daddy C

Jethro Tull - Look into the Sun (HD)
Jethro Tull are a British rock group formed in 1967. Their music is characterised by the lyrics, vocals and flute playing of Ian Anderson, who has led the band since its founding, and the guitar work of Martin Barre, who has been with the band since 1969.
Initially playing blues rock with an experimental flavour, they have also incorporated elements of classical music, folk music, jazz and art rock into their music.
One of the world's best-selling music artists, the band has sold more than 60 million albums worldwide in a career that has spanned five decades.
Ian Anderson's first band, started in 1962 in Blackpool, was known as The Blades, and featured Anderson on vocals and harmonica, Jeffrey Hammond on bass, John Evans on drums, and a guitarist named either Hipgrave or Michael Stephans. Drummer Barrie Barlow became a member in 1963 after Evans had switched from drums to piano. By 1964 the band had developed into a seven-piece Blue-eyed soul band called The John Evan Band (later The John Evan Smash). By this point Evans had shortened his surname to "Evan" at the insistence of Hammond, who thought it sounded better and more unusual.
In 1967 the band moved to the London area in search of more bookings, basing themselves in nearby Luton; they also travelled to Liverpool. However, money remained short and within days of the move most of the band quit and headed back north, leaving Anderson and bassist Glenn Cornick (who had replaced Hammond) to join forces with blues guitarist Mick Abrahams and his friend, drummer Clive Bunker, both from the Luton-based band McGregor's Engine. At first, the new band had trouble getting repeat bookings and they took to changing their name frequently to continue playing the London club circuit. Band names were often supplied by their booking agents' staff, one of whom, a history enthusiast, eventually christened them "Jethro Tull" after the 18th-century agriculturist. The name stuck because they happened to be using it the first time a club manager liked their show enough to invite them to return. They were signed to the blossoming Ellis-Wright agency, and became the third band managed by the soon-to-be Chrysalis empire. It was around this time that Anderson purchased a flute after becoming frustrated with his inability to play guitar like Eric Clapton.
They released their first album This Was in 1968. In addition to music written by Anderson and Abrahams the album included the traditional "Cat's Squirrel," which highlighted Abrahams' blues-rock style. The Rahsaan Roland Kirk-penned jazz piece "Serenade to a Cuckoo" gave Anderson a showcase for his growing talents on the flute, an instrument which he started learning to play only half a year before the release of the album. The overall sound of the group at this time was described in the Record Mirror by Anderson in 1968 as "a sort of progressive blues with a bit of jazz."
Stand Up is the second album by Jethro Tull. Prior to this album, the band's original guitarist Mick Abrahams had left the band due to musical differences with Ian Anderson. Abrahams wanted to stay with the blues-rock sound of This Was, while Anderson wished to branch out into other musical forms.
Stand Up represents the first album project on which Anderson was in full control of the music and lyrics. The album also marks the first appearance of guitarist Martin Barre who appeared on every Jethro Tull album from this point on. The album goes in a different direction from Ian Anderson's earlier work, revealing influences from Celtic music, folk and classical music. The instrumental "Bourée" (one of Jethro Tull's better-known songs) is a re-working of "Bourrée in E minor" by J.S.Bach.
The album reached #1 on the British charts. The gatefold album cover, in a woodcut style designed by artist James Grashow, originally opened up similar to a child's pop-up book, so that a cut-out of the band's personnel stood up — linking into the album's title. Stand Up won New Musical Express's award for best album artwork in 1969.
The album was re-issued in 1973 by Chrysalis Records and again in 2001 as a digital remaster. The album was reissued on Oct 5th, 2010. The deluxe reissue includes six "bonus tracks" on disc one, and two additional discs of live material recorded at Carnegie Hall in 1970, including a DTS surround mix.

Under The Sun - Cheryl Cole (Lyrics)
I DO NOT OWN THE RIGHTS TO THIS SONG
We all get lonely days
Get stuck in the fade
I can see the sun is shining bright right on through the haze
I complain to say
Is this really my life
Now that I'm over you, and I'm sober too
I can finally feel alive
But I won't give you my heart, cause it don't break twice
Just to let you know, let you know
And if you play the part, and play it real nice
Baby I'll let go, I'll let go
I'm sure you'll tell me anything under the sun
Like how you think I'm special and the only one
Cause normally I'll probably just get up and run
But you looking so damn good to me under the sun
Under the sun....
Are we on the same page? Don't need to play
All these games just to get a little feel of sunshine on my face
And I got paid, today, is this really my life
Now that I'm over you, and I'm sober too
I can finally feel alive
But I won't give you my heart, cause it don't break twice
Just to let you know, let you know
And if you play the part, and play it real nice
Baby I'll let go, I'll let go
I'm sure you'll tell me anything under the sun
Like how you think I'm special and the only one
Cause normally I'll probably just get up and run
But you looking so damn good to me under the sun
Well do you get, do you get what I need, na na na
Could you show me something that I want to see, na na na
And maybe you can get underneath, na na na
If you watch the sun go down on me, na na na
Go down on me!
I'm sure you'll tell me anything under the sun
Like how you think I'm special and the only one
Cause normally I'll probably just get up and run
But you looking so damn good to me under the sun

Protest World Rookie Finals 2009
The new crop of WSF young talents fought to be crowned World Rookie Champion this weekend at the Swatch TTR 4Star Protest World Rookie Final in Ischgl, Austria. Roope Tonteri stomped his way to first place and got the title of Champion. Also on the line was a filming session with Pirate Movie Productions, one with Aesthetiker Crew and a photo-shooting with Onboard Europe giving young riders the opportunity to step on stage and earn international recognition. Tonteri was closely followed by Kevin Backstrom (SWE) in second place and Eskil Korneliussen (NOR) in third. Among the groms another scandic talent won: it was Sven Thorgren, 14 years old from Sweden. Michaela Davis-Meehan, the only Australian in the starting field, stood up to her female competitors and took home the win for the girls.
Due to unfortunate weather conditions on Friday, qualifications and finals were held together on Saturday in a three-runs format. As the best two runs counted, the riders had to show a variety of tricks increasing the intensity of the event and ensuring the onlookers witnessed some amazing feats.
The springtime sun shone brightly upon the slushy course as the rookies stepped it up in front of a large end of season crowd. The Ischgl snowpark consisted of jumps from 8m to 20m, boxes, rails, and a wall ride, providing countless opportunities for the riders to get their shred on and showcase creativity.
“I am happy to be World Rookie Champion. The riding was good today and I am stoked that another Finnish rider is champion after Peetu Piiroinen won the TTR Tour this year.”, Tonteri said after he learned about his win. Tonteri, who showed a good performance at many other World Rookie Tour and TTR events this year, moves into World No. 105 in the Swatch TTR World Rankings.
Some of the nicest tricks of the day were thrown down by Darek Bergmann (CZE) who finished in fifth with a run including a Frontside 7 with super nice Crail Grab, by Kevin Backstrom with a Frontside 1080 followed by a Tailbonk to 360 Out on the RedBull Obstacle and by Austrian shred talent Luca Schranz who surprised everyone with some one-footed action on the kinkrail and the following kicker. These rookies are showing some real talent and pro boarding could well fill their savings accounts in the near future. Props also have to go out to Teddy Koo (JAP), who took out the 2Star North Face Korean Rookie Fest and finished in fourth position today. Throughout the contest the level of riding was on professional standards and everyone will be watching as these newcomers erupt onto the professional world of snowboarding in coming seasons.
With Ischgl the World Rookie Tour 2008.09 is over but the kickoff for next tour already announced: a Summer Rookie Fest will be held in Schnastal, Italy, from 27 june untill 3rd july 2009. More info will be avaible soon on www.worldsnowboardfederation.org

4. Some Bible verses I read in my video in correlation with the Creator’s real name:
Isaiah quotes Satan saying and calling the Father the “Most High” here In Isaiah 14:14 (NASV): “I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.”
In the book of Daniel, even Nebuchadnezzar called the Creator, “Most High”:
Daniel 3:26
Then Nebuchadnezzar went near the mouth of the burning fiery furnace and spoke saying, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abeg-Nego, servants of the MOST HIGH God, come out, and come here. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednago came from the midst of the fire.
Also in Daniel 4:17
This decision is by the decree of the watchers, and the sentence by the word of the holy ones, in order that the living may know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men,
gives it to whomever He will, and sets over it the lowest of men.
Daniel 4:24-25This is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree of the Most High, which has come upon my lord the king:
They shall drive you from men, your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make you eat grass like oxen. They shall wet you with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over you, till you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He chooses.
Daniel 4:34
And at the end of the time, I Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me; and I blessed the Most High and praised and honored Him who lives forever.
Isaiah 12:2 (NKJV)
Behold, God is my salvation,
I will trust and not be afraid;
‘ For YAH, the LORD, is my strength and song;
He also has become my salvation.’
5.Why was the “Book of Enoch” covered up by the church? Study the truth about the Book of Enoch below. It’s easy to see why they did not put it in the Bible…Satan had to hide Yah (the Creator’s) truth and deceive many!

“Age of Deceit” movie touches on Enoch:

Another great movie to watch, “The Fallen Angels & Nephilim” explains about Enoch:

You can also read the Book of Enoch online here (This version was translated by R.H. Charles in 1917):

Also, “The Secrets of Enoch” another one of Enoch’s books that is good to read, and you can study it here (it’s the version translated by Richard Laurence), whish there is no different than the one translated by R.H. Charles): http://reluctant-messenger.com/2enoch01-68.htm
Enoch calls Yahuah (Yahuah is the Creator for the newcomers), he calls the Yahuah the Most High….READ “THE BOOK OF ENOCH”!!! It’s not that hard to understand if you ask the Most High (Yahuah) for the truth in all things!
Enoch & Elijah were the only 2 men who did not see death in ALL OF MANKIND…OUT OF ALL OF HIS PEOPLE . What does this mean?
The Gospel of Nicodemus use to be read by Christians and was taken out for whatever reason….

Isaiah 45
Thus saith the LORD to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut; I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron: And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel. For Jacob my servant's sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me. I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me: That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else.

Isaiah 45 - The Holy Bible (KJV)
The Holy Bible King James Version
Isaiah 45
1) Thus saith the LORD to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut;
2) I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:
3) And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.
4) For Jacob my servant's sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me.
5) I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:
6) That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else.
7) I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
8) Drop down, ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness: let the earth open, and let them bring forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together; I the LORD have created it.
9) Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?
10) Woe unto him that saith unto his father, What begettest thou? or to the woman, What hast thou brought forth?
11) Thus saith the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker, Ask me of things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me.
12) I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded.
13) I have raised him up in righteousness, and I will direct all his ways: he shall build my city, and he shall let go my captives, not for price nor reward, saith the LORD of hosts.
14) Thus saith the LORD, The labour of Egypt, and merchandise of Ethiopia and of the Sabeans, men of stature, shall come over unto thee, and they shall be thine: they shall come after thee; in chains they shall come over, and they shall fall down unto thee, they shall make supplication unto thee, saying, Surely God is in thee; and there is none else, there is no God.
15) Verily thou art a God that hidest thyself, O God of Israel, the Saviour.
16) They shall be ashamed, and also confounded, all of them: they shall go to confusion together that are makers of idols.
17) But Israel shall be saved in the LORD with an everlasting salvation: ye shall not be ashamed nor confounded world without end.
18) For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.
19) I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I the LORD speak righteousness, I declare things that are right.
20) Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye that are escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a god that cannot save.
21) Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me.
22) Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.
23) I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.
24) Surely, shall one say, in the LORD have I righteousness and strength: even to him shall men come; and all that are incensed against him shall be ashamed.
25) In the LORD shall all the seed of Israel be justified, and shall glory.

The film revolves around Heer (Firdous), a girl born into a wealthy family, and Ranjha (Ejaz) the youngest of four brothers, whose journey from his own village takes him to the village where Heer lives, and where he meets and falls in love with her after she offers him work tending cattle
When Heer is subsequently forced to marry another man, Saida Khera, she broken-heartedly enters a shrine. Rhanja, reciting the name of "Allah", eventually finds her and they are reunited. Their happiness does not last long, as Ibad is arrested by the police, although he is soon freed and permitted to marry Heer
On their wedding day, however, Heer's jealous uncle Kaido poisons her, and later Ranjha is killed on her grave

Heer Ranjha (ہیر رانجھا)
Heer Ranjha (Punjabi: ਹੀਰ ਰਾਂਝਾ, ہیر رانجھا, hīr rāñjhā) is one of the four popular tragic romances of the Punjab. The other three are Mirza Sahiba, Sassi Punnun and Sohni Mahiwal. There are several poetic narrations of the story, the most famous being 'Heer' by Waris Shah written in 1766. It tells the story of the love of Heer and her lover Ranjha. The other poetic narrations were written by Damodar Daas, Mukbaz and Ahmed Gujjar among others.
Heer is an extremely beautiful woman, born into a wealthy Jatt family of the Sayyal clan in Jhang. Ranjha (whose first name is Dheedo; Ranjha is the surname), also a Jatt, is the youngest of four brothers and lives in the village 'Takht Hazara' by the river Chenab. Being his father's favorite son, unlike his brothers who had to toil in the lands, he led a life of ease playing the flute ('Wanjhli'/'Bansuri'). After a quarrel with his brothers over land, Ranjha leaves home. In Waris Shah's version of the epic, it is said that Ranjha left his home because his brothers' wives refused to give him food. Eventually he arrives in Heer's village and falls in love with her. Heer offers Ranjha a job as caretaker of her father's cattle. She becomes mesmerised by the way Ranjha plays his flute and eventually falls in love with him. They meet each other secretly for many years until they are caught by Heer's jealous uncle, Kaido, and her parents Chuchak and Malki. Heer is forced by her family and the local priest or 'mullah' to marry another man called Saida Khera.
Ranjha is heartbroken. He is left to walk the quiet villages on his own until eventually he meets a 'Jogi' (ascetic). After meeting Baba Gorakhnath, the founder of the "Kanphata"(pierced ear) sect of ascetics('Jogis'), at 'Tilla Jogian' (the 'Hill of Ascetics', located 50 miles north of the historic town of Bhera, Sargodha District, Punjab (Pakistan)), Ranjha voluntarily becomes a Jogi, piercing his ears and renouncing the material world. Reciting the name of the Lord, "Alakh Niranjan", on his travels around the Punjab, he eventually finds the village where he is reunited with Heer.
The two return to Heer's village, where Heer's parents agree to their marriage. However, on the wedding day, Heer's jealous uncle Kaido poisons her food so that the wedding will not take place. Hearing this news, Ranjha rushes to aid Heer, but he is too late, as she has already eaten the poison and died. Brokenhearted once again, Ranjha takes the poisoned Laddu (sweet) which Heer has eaten and dies by her side.
Heer and Ranjha are buried in a Punjabi town in Pakistan called Jhang, Punjab. Lovers and others often pay visits to their mausoleum

Janis Ian - Other Side Of The Sun
another personal favorite...pls. enjoy watching...!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Janis Ian (born Janis Eddy Fink, April 7, 1951) is an American songwriter, singer, musician, columnist, and science fiction author. She had a career singing in the 1960s and 1970s, and has continued recording into the 21st century. In 1975, Ian won a Grammy Award for her song, "At Seventeen".
A singer/songwriter both celebrated and decried for her pointed handling of taboo topics, Janis Ian enjoyed one of the more remarkable second acts in music history; after first finding success as a teen, her career slumped, only to enter a commercial resurgence almost a decade later. The child of a music teacher, Janis Eddy Fink was born on May 7, 1951, in New York City; she studied piano as a child, and, drawing influence from Edith Piaf, Billie Holiday, and Odetta, wrote her first songs at the age of 12. She soon entered Manhattans High School of Music and Art, where she began performing at school functions; after adopting the surname Ian (her brothers middle name), she quickly graduated to the New York folk circuit.
When she was just 15, she recorded her self-titled debut; the LP contained Societys Child (Baby Ive Been Thinking), a meditation on interracial romance written by Ian while waiting to meet with her school guidance counselor. While banned by a few radio stations, the single failed to attract much notice until conductor Leonard Bernstein invited its writer to perform the song on his television special Inside Pop: The Rock Revolution. The ensuing publicity and furor over its subject matter pushed Societys Child into the upper rungs of the pop charts, and made Ian an overnight sensation.
Success did not agree with her, however, and she soon dropped out of high school; in rapid succession, Ian recorded three more LPs — 1967s For All the Seasons of Your Mind, 1968s The Secret Life of J. Eddy Fink, and 1969s Who Really Cares — but gave away the money she earned to friends and charities. After meeting photojournalist Peter Cunningham at a peace rally, the couple married, and at age 20, she announced her retirement from the music business. The marriage failed, however, and she returned in 1971 with the poorly received Present Company. After moving to California to hone her writing skills in seclusion, Ian resurfaced three years later with Stars, which featured the song Jesse, later a Top 30 hit for Roberta Flack.
With 1975s Between the Lines, Ian eclipsed all of her previous success; not only did the LP achieve platinum status, but the delicate single At Seventeen reached the Top Three and won a Grammy. While subsequent releases like 1977s Latin-influenced Miracle Row, 1979s Night Rains, and 1981s Restless Eyes earned acclaim, they sold poorly; Ian was dropped by her label, and spent 12 years without a contract before emerging in 1993 with Breaking Silence (the title a reference to her recent admission of homosexuality), which pulled no punches in tackling material like domestic violence, frank eroticism, and the Holocaust. Similarly, 1995s Revenge explored prostitution and homelessness. Two years later Ian returned with Hunger; God & the FBI followed in the spring of 2000. A live set, Working Without a Net, appeared from Rude Girl Records in 2003, and a DVD, {=Live at Club Cafe, saw release in 2005. Folk Is the New Black appeared as a joint release from Rude Girl and Cooking Vinyl in 2006.
