The Nafusa Mountains (Berber: Adrar n Infusen (Nafusa Mountain), Arabic: الجبل الغربي‎ Al Ǧabal al Gharbi (Western mountain)) are a mountain range in the western Tripolitania region of northwestern Libya. It also includes their regions around the escarpment formed where the northern end of the Tripolitanian Plateau meets the Mediterranean coastal plain or the Jefara.

The area has been as a major population and cultural center of the Ancient Libyans. The Ancient Libyan Zenata tribe expanded west into the Berber regions in various periods. The Nafusa region shelters most of Libya's Berber-speaking population, who speak Nafusi Berber. In addition to their living society and culture, the area contains a rich variety of Ancient Libyan legacy, which goes back over millenia.

This distinct culture, suppressed and oppressed by the Libyan regime, has risen to new prominence in the course of the 2011 Libyan civil war, when their initiatives led to the Nafusa Mountains becoming a major front in that war. The terrain and topography of the region are critical strategic factors, constraining mechanised advances from the flat plain and plateau, and favouring guerrilla tactics based on close local knowledge and the advantage of high ground. By the end of June 2011 the Nafusi people had almost succeeded in liberating themselves completely from the control of the regime, and this progress seems likely to continue.

Mark Doyle is a world affairs correspondent for BBC News. A [[United Kingdom|British]/ canada] citizen, he is known in particular for his articles on topics related to Africa.

In 1980, Doyle volunteered as a student teacher at the British-Senegalese Institute in Dakar, Senegal. He later worked with human rights group Amnesty International and West Africa, a London-based magazine, before joining the BBC as a producer for the programme Focus on Africa. He continued reporting out of several African countries, becoming the East Africa correspondent from 1993 to 1994. He is known for his reporting done after he arrived in Kigali at the beginning of the 1994 Rwandan Genocide. Doyle was one of the few correspondents to slip into Kigali before the airport was closed and was the only journalist to report continuously throughout the genocide. His other work includes co-editor of coverage on the 1996 United States presidential election and training of Eastern European journalists in Moldova. He has been correspondent for BBC's domestic service as well as BBC World Service radio and TV and was appointed BBC's West Africa correspondent in 1997.

Captain Mark Anthony Peter Phillips, CVO, ADC(P) (born 22 September 1948) is a British Olympic gold-medal-winning horseman and ex-husband of Anne, Princess Royal, with whom he had two children. He remains a leading figure in British equestrian circles, a noted designer of showjumping circuits, and a columnist in Horse & Hound magazine.

Mark Phillips is the son of the late Major Peter William Garside Phillips (1920–1998), and Anne Patricia Phillips (née Tiarks) (1926–1988).

He was educated at Stouts Hill Preparatory School near Uley, Gloucestershire, and Marlborough College, then the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

Upon passing out from Sandhurst, Phillips was commissioned as a second lieutenant into the Queen's Dragoon Guards in July 1969. After the expected period, he was promoted to lieutenant in January 1971. By the start of 1974, Phillips was an acting captain when he was appointed a Personal Aide-de-Camp to Queen Elizabeth II. Phillips was substantively promoted to captain in July 1975. Phillips retired from the Army on 30 March 1978.
