"Ayo!" is a song by American recording artist Mýa. It served as a promotional single for her fourth studio album Liberation (2007) and featured Washington D.C. native DJ Kool. Initially, released as the first intended single from Liberation however though the single failed to pick up as Harrison was going through transitioning from former label Interscope to her current label Universal Motown. The song was written and composed by Harrison, Christopher “Deep” Henderson and Charlie Smalls. It sampled an interpolation from the composition He’s the Wizard written by Charlie Smalls.
The song received generally positive reviews from contemporary music critics comparing the song’s production to TLC’s classic ‘90s album "CrazySexyCool". Ayo! became a minor hit on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart peaking at number seventy. No music video was released for the song due to it not being picked up as a single.
Ayo! samples an interpolation of He's The Wizard by Thelma Carpenter from the soundtrack to The Wiz. The Wiz is an adaptation of L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz which features an entire African American cast. The film starred Diana Ross and Michael Jackson as well as Thelma Carpenter playing the role of Miss One, the Good Witch of the North. The song is sung by Carpenter and The Munchkins when Dorothy Gale (Ross) and Toto arrives in Oz. The song was originally written by Charlie Smalls for the musical and film, so therefore he is credited for the sample recording.
(Verse)
Ayo, where you goin?
What's your name? How you doin?
Ayo, what you drinkin?
Watching you, I've been thinking
(Verse)
I can be your hustler, you can be my diva
We can be like Bonnie and Clyde
Let's lose all these people
Get another deal
We can rock until the morning light
(Chorus)
Girl, you're just the baddest thing I've seen
Love the way you dance, come and dance with me
Let's play a game of make believe
Let's pop this off like it's New Year's Eve
(Verse)
Ayo, now we're movin
To the beat, keep it grooving
And I wanna move you closer
‘Cause I wanna feel you
(Verse)
Parties like a rockstar
Like a model, she's hot
She can do whatever she likes
How she whisper softly
Pushes back upon me
I can stay here with you all night
(Chorus x2)
Girl, you're just the baddest thing I've seen
Love the way you dance, come and dance with me
Let's play a game of make believe
Let's pop this off like it's New Year's Eve
(Verse)
Aye, I know you like that camera
You know that I want you, the way I'm lookin at ya
Body movin like an exotic dancer
You know how to use it, I call it gangsta
Troy Boy has met another banger
We keep it movin from here to Atlanta
Naughty girls, yea I wanna spank ya
Stand to attention, be my good master
(Verse)
Ayo, tell me what's your name
It's only polite, I'll tell you mine
Come with me to the back of the club where, well we can dance all night
I know you're bout it bout it, so let's not waste no time
Let's get a little privacy
And our bodies in and throw away the key
(Chorus x2)
Girl, you're just the baddest thing I've seen
Love the way you dance, come and dance with me
Let's play a game of make believe
Let's pop this off like it's New Year's Eve
All the ladies, all the fellows
All my people, singing ayo
All the ladies, all the fellows
