Wide of mooring chains on ground The China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) recently announced that over 40 percent of its equipment on its 981 offshore platform has been localized and that its R5 mooring chains for platform stabilization are all domestically manufactured. The Asian Star Anchor Chain Co., Ltd (ASAC), a Chinese listed company in east China's Jiangsu Province, has now been able to manufacture the R5 mooring chains with a diameter of 152 millimeters, which reaches the top world level of technology in this field. China used to import such chains before the CNOOC launched its program of 981 platform, and only a few foreign companies are able to mass produce this kind of chains. The R5 mooring chain manufactured by the ASAC can withstand strong winds and waves helping stabilize the 981 platform when the Typhoon Muifa hit the East China Sea in August last year. And the product has since got its share in the world market.
