John Douglas "J. D." Walsh (born December 24, 1974) is an American actor, writer, producer, and improv comedy leader. He is best known for his role as Gordon on Two and a Half Men. He wrote, produced and directed the show Battleground whose pilot episode was funded by FOX.

Early Life

Walsh was born and raised as an only child in Madison, Wisconsin. His mother worked as a professor at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and he didn't speak to his father.

Walsh briefly attended University of Minnesota before transferring to University of California, Santa Barbara. There he got involved with Theatresports. He'd later transfer to and graduate from UCLA with a Bachelor of Arts in theater.

After graduating, Walsh founded Ultimate Improv, an improvisational comedy club located in Westwood, Los Angeles, California. In September 2008, he and his troupe made a video spoof of Les Misérables' "One Day More" called "Les Misbarack", which became a hit on YouTube.

Career

Walsh's roles have included parts in various TV shows and films, as actor, as writer, and co-executive producer, his most notable being "Mackey Nagle" on Smart Guy and as Gordon on Two and a Half Men. Walsh appeared in the 2014 film, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as an online instructor demonstrating how batteries work.

J. D. Walsh (coach)

John David "J. D." Walsh (born October 25, 1972), is an American basketball coach. Walsh is a native of West Islip, NY and currently resides in New York and New Delhi, India. Walsh graduated from University of Maryland, College Park in 1996.

Playing career

Walsh was a former High School McDonald's All-American (Honorable Mention) his senior year at St. Thomas More School in Oakdale, CT in 1991. He was a full scholarship team member of University of Maryland's men’s basketball team from 1991 to 1993. His teammates included NBA players Walt Williams, Evers Burns, Keith Booth, and Joe Smith. Walsh's NCAA career ended early because of a back injury in 1993.

He competed in the Empire State Games in 1991 and in 1996. He was the third leading scorer as part of the gold medal team along with NBA players Wally Szczerbiak and Speedy Claxton in Buffalo, New York. In 1996, he had a short semi-professional stint in Ireland for St. Vincent's Dublin.

Coaching career

Walsh began as a volunteer coach in 1997 for Vincent Smith, assisting the Aim High AAU Team in Queens, NY. He began his high school coaching career in 1998 at Roslyn High School and on to St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School from 1999 to 2004, where he was instrumental in coaching future talent such as Donald Brown (Bucknell University), Kenny Harris (Hofstra University), Ryan Johnson (Hofstra University), Kevin Spann (CW Post), Prentice Small (Lehigh University), and Ed Zajac (Quinnipiac College).

Jōdō

Jōdō (杖道:じょうどう), meaning "the way of the jō", or jōjutsu (杖術:じょうじゅつ) is a Japanese martial art using a short staff called jō. The art is similar to bōjutsu, and is strongly focused upon defense against the Japanese sword. The jō is a short staff, usually about 3 to 5 feet (0.9 to 1.5 m) long.

Legendary origins of Jōjutsu

Shintō Musō-ryū jōjutsu (sometimes known as Shinto Muso-ryu jōdo - "Shindo" is also a valid pronunciation for the leading character), is reputed to have been invented by the great swordsman Musō Gonnosuke Katsuyoshi (夢想 權之助 勝吉, fl. c.1605, date of death unknown) about 400 years ago, after a bout won by the famous Miyamoto Musashi (宮本 武蔵, 1584–1645). According to this tradition, Gonnosuke challenged Musashi using a bō, or long staff, a weapon he was said to wield with great skill. Although other accounts of this first duel disagree, according to the oral tradition of Shintō Musō-ryū, Musashi caught Gonnosuke's bō in a two sword "X" block (jūji-dome). Once in this position, Gonnosuke could not move in such a way as to prevent Musashi from delivering a counterattack, and Musashi elected to spare his life.

Juris Doctor

The Juris Doctor degree or Doctor of Law degree (J.D.), also known as the Doctor of Jurisprudence degree (D.Jur. or DJur), is a professional doctorate and first professional graduate degree in law. The degree is earned by completing law school in the United States, Canada, Australia, and other common law countries. Many who hold the degree of Juris Doctor are individuals who practice law and may choose to focus their practice on criminal law, tort, family law, corporate law, and/or a wide range of other areas.

To be authorized to practice law in the courts of a given state in the United States, the majority of individuals holding a J.D. degree must pass a bar examination. The State of Wisconsin, however, permits the graduates of its two law schools to practice law in that state, and in its state courts, without having to take its bar exam, a practice known as the "Diploma Privilege." In the United States, passing an additional bar exam is not required of lawyers authorized to practice in at least one state to practice in the national courts of the United States, courts commonly known as "federal courts." Lawyers must, however, be admitted to the bar of the federal court before they are authorized to practice in that court.

JDStar

JDStar (also spelt Jd'), was a women's professional wrestling promotion based in Tokyo, Japan. In the wake of the joshi puroresu boom of the early 1990s, several different groups opened with distinct approaches. The Jd'Star promotion, with its subtitle, "Beauty Athlete," summed up the company's approach.

History

Jaguar Yokota came out of retirement and announced the formation of her promotion, JDStar, in a press conference, in 1996. In the beginning, she was the focal point of most of their shows. She left the promotion in 1998, seeing that the promotion was going nowhere and worked freelance, which she still does today. After her departure, JDStar was bought by Kiyu Uji, and much like Yokota before him, the promotion got nowhere, even with the help of established stars Lioness Asuka, Aja Kong, and Chigusa Nagayo.

The company had a nice roster, but none with the ability or personalities to attract much attention. In 2001, Hidenobu Ichimaru bought JDStar from Kiyu Uji, and establish a new gimmick to promote JDStar's talent: the "Athtress" (athlete-actress), which used girls with model good looks to market them for their athleticism in the pro wrestling ring, and hopefully establish them as actresses. Coming mainly from an acting background, the first run of girls had few skills, and the fanfare dropped slightly. The "athtress" gimmick however, created more controversy than anything and the attempt to create an idol never quite caught. Also dropping was the wrestlers respect for Ichimaru, as several of the established wrestlers in joshi puroresu thought that the "Athtresses" should not be in the same ring as them.
