The Hudson Bay Inland Sea, the largest seasonally ice-covered inland sea in the world, consists of Hudson Strait, Foxe Basin, Hudson Bay, James Bay and Ungava Bay. Its vast seascape is at the heart of the Canadian landscape and receives fresh water from a very large drainage basin extending from the Canadian Rockies to Labrador, covering nearly four million square kilometers. Today, this region is undergoing major and rapid ecological, social and economic transformations. Shrinking and changing sea ice and shifts in wildlife patterns are affecting subsistence hunting and fishing, and a warming climate is facilitating increases in marine traffic as well as potential hydro, oil and mining developments. In turn, these effects translate into both challenges and opportunities for the communiti...

Read your free e-book: http://copydl.space/mebk/50/en/B00SHH0F7Q/book Is it possible to reach back in time and solve an unsolved murder, more than 170 years after it was committed? Just after midnight on April 21, 1842, John Mcloughlin, Jr. the chief trader for the Hudson's Bay Company at Fort Stikine, in the northwest corner of the territory that would later become British Columbia was shot to death by his own men. They claimed it was an act of self-defence, their only means of stopping the violent rampage of their drunk and abusive leader. Sir George Simpson, the Hbc's Overseas Governor, took the men of Stikine at their word, and the Company closed the book on the matter. The case never saw the inside of a courtroom, and no one was ever charged or punished for the crime. To this day, t...
Read your free e-book: http://copydl.space/mebk/50/en/B00TFVDZS4/book John Seagrave was born in Toronto, Ontario, but from an early age felt like a cultural orphan in his own community. To escape the inevitable factory job he joined the gentleman Adventurers of the Hudsons Bay Company as a modern-day fur trader. It was the 1970s and, like many other Bay Boys, he was transferred from pillar to post (ultimately 17 outposts) in northern Ontario and Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories. Seagrave felt kinship to, and learned from, both Natives and Inuit, spending twenty years working hard as an Hbc factor and experiencing many adventures along the way. After retiring from the Hbc, Seagrave recorded what he witnessed as the fur trade collapsed, as electricity and television found their wa...
