Ancient Greek Hoplite Interview ARMOUR & TACTICS! Military Odyssey 2013:
Here I interview one of the Ancient Greek Hoplites at their camp and learn all about their armour and tactics. Great Interview!

All footage taken on my Canon EOS 60D DSLR Camera (Canon Digital Camera). Also using Image Stabilization lenses (Macro Lens, and Telephoto Lens - just the original kit lenses that came with the camera, and a 50mm F 1.4 Lens). For my camera tripod I use a lightweight Manfrotto 055XPROB tripod, and for sound capturing I use a Rhode Directional Condenser Video Microphone (Rhode VideoMic) which I think does a great job! I hope to upgrade soon, but I thought the outcome so far is pretty good!
The Military Odyssey show is not just Battle Reenactments, there are vast displays of classic ex military vehicles, classic cars, living history encampments, vintage weapons sales (like swords, armour, rifles, pistols, sub machine guns, etc), military surplus supplies, ammunition, military uniforms, military accessories, and much more. You cold not see it all in a day even if you tried!:) Bring your spending money if you go...you never know you may have the urge to buy a tank:) But I hate to think what the insurance would be on a thing like that!:S

Hoplite Wall is an ability available to most units with the Hoplon shield, after which the unit is named. It is very useful defensively and offensively if used correctly.
Note: A perceptive viewer noted that the Hoplites take less casualties 6 ranks deep than 2 - which I think is because the Noble Horse Archers were firing from a depression in the ground in the first instance, and not in the second. On completely flat terrain, the Noble Horse Archers kill about 10-15 more on 6 ranks deep than when the Hoplites are 2 ranks deep, so spaghetti lines are viable.

Hoplite
Hoplites were citizen-soldiers of Ancient Greek city-states who were primarily armed with spears and shields. Their main tactic was the phalanx formation. The hoplites were primarily free citizens—propertied farmers and artisans—who were able to afford the bronze armor suit and weapons (estimated at a third to a half of its able-bodied adult male population). Hoplites generally received basic military training.
In the 8th or 7th century BC Greek armies adopted a military innovation known as the phalanx formation. This tactic proved successful in defeating the Persians when employed by the Athenians at the Battle of Marathon in 490 BC during the First Greco-Persian War. The Persian archers and light troops who fought in the Battle of Marathon failed, in part, because their bows were too weak for their arrows to penetrate the Greek shields and armor, and their own armor and shields could not stand up to the longer spears and swords of the Greeks. The phalanx was also successfully employed by the Greeks at the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BC and at the Battle of Plataea in 479 BC during the Second Greco-Persian War.

Note: A perceptive viewer noted that the Hoplites take less casualties 6 ranks deep than 2 - which I think is because the Noble Horse Archers were firing from a depression in the ground in the first instance, and not in the second. On completely flat terrain, the Noble Horse Archers kill about 10-15 more on 6 ranks deep than when the Hoplites are 2 ranks deep, so spaghetti lines are viable.
