Lena Horne - Stormy Weather (1943)
Here's the full version of a performance that can be found truncated elsewhere on YouTube -- from the 1943 film of the same name, the great Lena Horne delivers a sizzling performance of her signature song. (I wish I had the full dance that follows it, which includes some amazing ballet. If anyone has a full-length version, please post it or get in touch with me!)

Lyrics...
It seems we've stood and talked like this before,
We looked at each other in the same way then,
But I can't remember where or when.
The clothes you're wearing are the clothes you wore,
The smile you are smiling, you were smiling then,
But I can't remember where or when.
Some things that happened for the first time,
Seem to be happening again,
And so it seems that we have met before,
And laughed before,
And loved before,
But who knows where or when?
Some things that happened for the first time,
Seem to be happening again,
Hmmm, so it seems that we have met before,
And laughed before,
And loved before,
But who knows where or when?

This Scene expresses- FEAR- noun: an emotion experienced in anticipation of some specific pain or danger (usually accompanied by a desire to flee or fight). noun: a feeling of anxiety and agitation caused by the presence or nearness of danger, evil, pain, etc.; timidity; dread; terror; fright; apprehension. Terrify not your soul with vain imaginary fears. By realizing that you are the one feeding the fire, you can start to take control of your fears. Panic is a vicious cycle that can be broken. When you start to have irrational fears you need to take action quick. Eleanor Roosevelt once said: "You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing, which you think you cannot do." We must stop running away from things that frighten us, face our fears head on, and do the thing we fear the most. Most of the time we'll find out that the "thing" was not that scary after all. Our imaginations had behaved like a super fertilizer and grown a grotesque monstrosity in our minds. Remember, our imaginations are incredibly powerful. They can work against us, creating horrible images that leave us paralyzed with fear and they can also work for us, building a world where everything we do is an adventure, a miracle. And the most amazing thing is that we hold the power to control our minds - we allow fear to dominate our lives or we choose to dominate fear. Those are our only two choices.

Ms. Lena Horne
The legendary Lena Horne: incomparable grace, haunting voice and breathtakingly beautiful. One of the few female entertainers from that era that was able to garner success without succumbing to addiction, controversy or having to be overly-sexualized. A true (S)hero.
The song is from the musical "Showboat" and was performed in the film "Till The Clouds Roll By."
Over the last few months I've been watching a lot of Dali interviews and that probably influenced my editing, I hope that this piece re/introduces people to her incredible career/persona.
(I found that in some frames Ms. Horne looks like Frida Kahlo, Virgin of Guadalupe, Alicia Keys, Janelle Monae and even Natalie Portman.)

Lena Horne - Where or When (1952)
"Where or When" is a show tune from the 1937 Rodgers and Hart musical Babes In Arms. The lyrics illustrate a memory anomaly known as déjà vu: "It seems we stood and talked like this before. We looked at each other in the same way then. But I can't remember where or when... Some things that happen for the first time seem to be happening again." Those who have not experienced déjà vu often misunderstand the words "Some things that happen for the first time..." and substitute "Some things that happened for the first time..." which changes the meaning to mere recall of past events. The song lyrics mean: Some things that are now happening for the first time and never happened before, now falsely seem to be happening again. But I can't remember where or when because they never happened until now.
