Antonio Tarver
Antonio Deon Tarver (born November 21, 1968), nicknamed the "Magic Man", is a professional boxer from Orlando, Florida, who is the former Ring light heavyweight champion and former IBF, WBC, WBA and IBO light heavyweight champion. He stands at 6' 2" and was the first man to beat Roy Jones, Jr. (aside from a loss to Montell Griffin, via disqualification). He built an impressive amateur career, including winning a bronze medal while representing the United States at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. He captured the world title at the 1995 World Amateur Boxing Championships in Berlin, just two months after having triumphed at the Pan American Games in Mar del Plata. In 2006, Tarver starred as Mason "The Line" Dixon, the heavyweight division champion in the film Rocky Balboa.

De La Hoya officially announced his retirement from the sport at a press conference held in Los Angeles on April 14, 2009.

Joe Cortez: 2011 International Boxing Hall Of Fame
Referee Joe Cortez gives his 2011 International Boxing Hall Of Fame induction speech. Born October 13, 1943 in New York. A former amateur boxer (43-2 record), Cortez won six Golden Gloves tournaments. He turned pro in 1963 and compiled an 18-1 record before retiring in 1971. After living in Puerto Rico, he returned to New York in 1976 and began referring amateur matches. He soon joined the professional ranks and, in 1982, officiated his first world title bout, WBA junior welterweight king Aaron Pryor's 12th round TKO over Miguel Montilla. Since then he was become one of the most respected third men in boxing, refereeing over 160 title bouts. Among the notable bouts he has refereed include Tyson vs. Holmes, Duran vs. Barkley, Bowe vs. Holyfield I, Foreman vs. Moorer, De La Hoya vs. Vargas, Mayweather vs. Hatton and Chavez vs. Haugen in front of 132274 fans. He's also worked fights with such stars as James Toney, Mike McCallum, Naseem Hamed, Bernard Hopkins, Felix Trinidad and Lennox Lewis. Known for being "Fair But Firm," Cortez has appeared as a referee in films such as Rocky Balboa and Play It To The Bone.

Biography
Cortez moved to Puerto Rico during his childhood. Living there, he became fluent in Spanish. Cortez had a good amateur boxing career, winning various Golden Gloves tournaments from 1960 to 1962. In 1963, at the minimum age of eighteen, he jumped into the professional boxing ranks. Cortez had a record of eighteen wins and one defeat as a professional boxer. Unable to secure a world title shot, however, he retired from boxing after only nineteen professional fights.Beginning in the early 1970s, Cortez started working as a referee. During the 1980s, he took on the responsibility to referee some important, but not big, fights. During this time he was the third man in the ring in several of Mike Tyson's pro fights.
As eminent referees Richard Steele and Mills Lane retired at the dawn of the 21st century, Cortez became one of Nevada and New York's preferred boxing referees for world title fights. He has refereed over 170 world title bouts, among which figure the first Oscar De La Hoya-Julio César Chávez meeting, Evander Holyfield and Riddick Bowe's first title fight and the match that saw 45-year-old George Foreman become the oldest World Heavyweight Champion in history. Asked by Telemundo personnel to give a prediction about the first de la Hoya-Chávez meeting prior to the fight taking place, he simply answered "I can't make any predictions", as referees are not allowed to do that before a fight (doing so might indicate favoritism towards one of the combatants).
Cortez still referees major boxing events, and his catchphrase during pre-fight instructions, "(I am) fair but firm!" (also said as "I'm fair but I'm firm!") is now a copyrighted trademark. Cortez also gives children boxing instructions and has a website "fairbutfirm" that he teaches on how to become a referee. The only school for referees.
He also appears in the film Rocky Balboa as the referee in the exhibition bout between Balboa and the fictional champion Mason "The Line" Dixon played by the professional boxer Antonio Tarver.
He has been accused of being too obtrusive in his later career, especially for a decision to disqualify Humberto Soto for hitting Francisco Lorenzo with a grazing punch after a knockdown .
In 2011, Cortez was inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame along with Mike Tyson, Julio Cesar Chavez, and Kostya Tszyu.
