Gallery is a men's magazine begun by Montcalm Publishing in 1972. It is one of the more popular "skin" magazines that arose on the Playboy magazine pattern in the 1970s. Montcalm also published The Twilight Zone Magazine in the 1980s, apparently partly in imitation of Penthouse magazine's offshoot Omni.

Gallery has long featured a "Girl Next Door" contest in which photographers submit pictures of amateur models (similar to Hustler's "Beaver Hunt.") From each group of monthly entries, one model winner is selected. At the end of the year, one is crowned "Girl Next Door of the Year" and awarded a cash prize of $25,000. The most famous winner is retired porn star Stacy Valentine; at the time of her selection she was Oklahoma housewife Stacy Baker. ^[1]

Montcalm Publishing went bankrupt (March 2008), leaving many photographers and models empty handed; some were owed as much as $100,000.

Gallery magazine was purchased by the Magna Publishing Group. The first issue under their ownership came out in July 2008.^[2]

Magazines, periodicals, glossies or serials are publications that are printed with ink on paper, generally published on a regular schedule and contain a variety of content. They are generally financed by advertising, by a purchase price, by pre-paid magazine subscriptions, or all three.^[1]

Distribution[link]

Magazines can be distributed through the mail; through sales by newsstands, bookstores or other vendors; or through free distribution at selected pick-up locations. Sales models for distribution fall into three main categories.

Paid circulation[link]

In this model, the magazine is sold to readers for a price, either on a per-issue basis or by subscription, where an annual fee or monthly price is paid and issues are sent by post to readers. Examples from the UK include Private Eye and PC Pro.

Non-Paid Circulation[link]

This means that there is no cover price and issues are given away, for example in street dispensers, airline in-flight magazines or included with other products or publications. An example from the UK and Australia is TNT Magazine.

Controlled circulation[link]

This is the model used by "insider magazines" or industry-based publications distributed only to qualifying readers, often for free and determined by some form of survey. This latter model was widely used before the rise of the World Wide Web and is still employed by some titles. For example, in the United Kingdom, a number of computer-industry magazines, including Computer Weekly and Computing, and in finance, Waters Magazine.

In the library technical sense a "magazine" paginates with each issue starting at page one.^[2] Academic or professional publications that are not peer-reviewed are generally professional magazines.^[3]

The Gentleman's Magazine, first published in 1731, in London, is considered to have been the first general-interest magazine. Edward Cave, who edited The Gentleman's Magazine under the pen name "Sylvanus Urban," was the first to use the term "magazine," on the analogy of a military storehouse of varied materiel, originally derived from the Arabic makhazin "storehouses".^[4] Wordsmith offers this origin: "Plural of Arabic makhzan: storehouse, used figuratively as "storehouse of information" for books, and later to periodicals)."^[5]

The oldest consumer magazine still in print is The Scots Magazine, which was first published in 1739, though multiple changes in ownership and gaps in publication totaling over 90 years weaken that claim. Lloyd's List was founded in Edward Lloyd’s England coffee shop in 1734; it is still published as a daily business newspaper.

Rebecca Anne Flint (born 5 June 1995), better known by her stage name Beckii Cruel (ベッキー・クルーエル), is a British pop dancer and singer. She reached popularity in Japan after her YouTube videos of her dancing to dance pop songs were posted around the Internet. She is the 17th most subscribed user (3rd most in the Musician category) in Japan on YouTube (as of 25 August 2010).^[2] Her YouTube account has reached 14 million upload views and over 51,000 subscribers.^[1]

1995-2009: Early life and beginnings[link]

Flint was born in Blackpool, Lancashire, England, the daughter of a police inspector and a former dance instructor. She moved with her family at the age of 2 to Ramsey on the Isle of Man, where she attends Ramsey Grammar School.^[1] She became interested in anime and manga at the age of 11, when she first started reading Fruits Basket.^[2] On 22 July 2007, she began a YouTube channel under the name "xBextahx" (from a nickname she had when she was younger).^[3] Some of her very early uploads included vlogs she did with her older brother on their mother's MacBook. On 19 January 2008, she started posting videos of herself dancing to Japanese pop and anime songs, with some of her own choreography. On 15 April 2009, she posted a video of herself dancing to Danjo, a popular Japanese Internet meme. Danjo is Japanese for boy and girl. Her YouTube video was uploaded to the Japanese video streaming website Nico Nico Douga, where she instantly attracted fans.^[2]

According to Japanese media, Flint was named "the next Leah Dizon."^[4] Her looks and interest in cosplay made her popular among Japanese fans for being a moe idol.^[5] Despite this, during a press conference, she informed the media that she was well-aware that her age and her image would attract unwanted attention from the Internet, as her father had warned her.^[2]

Flint was approached with half a dozen marketing campaigns before being signed onto a talent ageny, Life Is So Cruel, Ltd., in August 2009. Emerging under the stage name "Beckii Cruel" she flew to Japan, where she was able to perform with Taro in Akihabara. Although Cruel had experience in dancing, having taken ballet for most of her life, she was required to undergo vocal training. She began seeking advice from David Holland, and, according to her father, "works with him at least once a week".^[1]

In October 2009, Cruel visited Japan with a group called the Cruel Angels, with 18-year-old French college student, known by her stage name Sarah Cruel, from Lyon, and a 17-year-old student from Portsmouth known by her stage name as Gemma Cruel.^[2][6] She was signed onto Tokuma Japan Communications, the same label as hit technopop group Perfume.

On 4 November 2009, Cruel herself released two songs on two different albums, titled "No, Upper Matsuri" (の、アッパー祭, No, Appā Matsuri^?) and "No, Ballad Matsuri" (の、バラード祭, No, Barādo Matsuri^?) as part of the "No, Matsuri" (の、祭り^?) CD series which features other singers popular from the Japanese Nico Nico Douga Video community.^[3] On 7 November, she started her second YouTube channel under the name "xBextahx2", her channel for vlogs, tutorials and practice shots. On 9 December, she released her first idol DVD, titled This is Beckii Cruel!.^[7][8] It debuted at number 8 on Japan's DVD charts.^[2]

She released her first single featuring the Cruel Angels, "Tsubasa o Kudasai" (翼をください^?, "Please Give Me Wings"), on 10 February 2010, a cover of a 1970s song by Japanese pop rock band Akai Tori.^[8] On 14 February 2010, she appeared at live events at Lazona Kawasaki Plaza and in Shibuya, Tokyo to promote the new single.^[9] The single reached #84 on Oricon's single charts, and charted for two weeks in the top 200.^[10]

On 12 August 2010, BBC Three premiered a documentary about her, entitled Beckii: Schoolgirl Superstar at 14.^[11] This documentary brought her to a mainstream UK audience.

As of September 2010, Cruel is no longer affiliated with the Cruel Girls, and is no longer a member of the Cruel Angels Project, citing a dispute with her management as the reason for her departure from the project.^[12]

On 31 October 2010, Cruel opened another YouTube project with her friend, Amy Day, titled "whatacruelday", and the pair posts weekly videos on themes and perform challenges. On 24 December, Cruel released two language learning books through ASCII Media Works entitled "Beckii Cruel de Eigomimi".^[13] There is a business English version and a casual conversation version. They debuted in the top-fifteen of the English language learning section in the Japanese book stores.

As of July 2011, Cruel is no longer represented by Life Is So Cruel, Ltd., having sought termination of her contract, and neither has any further links with the company, nor with the Cruel Angels Project.

She has also worked with Tom Nichols, who has previously worked with Kylie Minogue, and various other artists. She recorded the song "You Can't Kiss Me" hoping she will be approached by a British recording contract. A CD single for the song was released in Fall 2011. This was her first song targeted towards the British market.

As of 22 December 2011, 'You Can't Kiss Me' had reached Number 1 in the Music Week Upfront Club Chart, and number 15 in the Commercial Club Chart. (Source: Music Week Magazine)

Avan Tudor Jogia^[1] (born February 9, 1992)^[2] is a Canadian actor best known for playing Beck Oliver on Victorious.

Early life[link]

Jogia was born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia. He went to a few different schools in Vancouver, including Killarney Secondary School and King George Secondary School. In tenth grade he left school altogether to pursue a career in acting. Jogia plays the guitar and the piano.^[3][4] He is of Gujarati Indian, Welsh and Irish descent.^{[citation needed]}

Jogia's very first role came in 2006, when he played Danny Araujo, the younger brother of a transsexual teenage male to female, or transwoman, Gwen Araujo, in the television movie A Girl Like Me: The Gwen Araujo Story, directed by Agnieszka Holland. He appeared in The CW TV series Aliens in America as the character Sam. In 2008, he appeared as Champ on Gym Teacher: The Movie and Tajid in Spectacular!, both for the Nickelodeon network.^[5][6] Jogia plays Ben Stark in the TV series Caprica, a spin-off of Battlestar Galactica, on the Sci Fi Channel.^[7][8] Jogia portrays Beck Oliver in the Nickelodeon television program Victorious, which premiered in March 2010. His new movie, Finding Hope Now.^{[dated info]} He also appeared as Beck Oliver in theVictorious crossover movie, iParty With Victorious. Along with Daniella Monet, he co-hosted the Transformers: Dark of the Moon premiere on June 28, 2011 in New York.

Jogia also started the online PSA organization Straight But Not Narrow supported by his good friend Josh Hutcherson, which is aimed towards changing the attitudes and viewpoints of young, straight people about the LGBT community.
