AVC-Intra Compression Comparison Demo Video
AVC-Intra is Panasonics advanced implementation of H.264 expressly designed for professional HD production, and available in Panasonic P2 HD Camcorders and Workflow Tools. AVC-Intra is a professional intra-frame codec with bit rates of 50 and 100Mb/s, utilizing the Hi-10 and Hi-422 profiles of H.264 respectively. AVC-Intra provides highly-efficient intra-frame 10-bit encoding in two modes: 100 Mbps, the highest recording quality available for a one-piece camcorder (comparable to D-5 HD video quality) and AVC-Intra 50 Mbps for exceptional high image quality at a lower data rate. AVC-Intra processes the entire image within the boundaries of each video field or frame. There is zero dependence between adjacent frames, so AVC-Intra image quality stands up well to motion and editing

1. Hacked Panasonic GH2 Tutorial Series - Getting Started
Brought to you by www.cavootle.com What is Cavootle? http First in a series of videos showing the proper usage of the GH2 and the process of loading modified (hacked) firmware onto the camera and testing those settings. The second video shows the process of loading the firmware onto the camera. Now that 1.1 firmware update is out, and we have some solid settings. We can get to the very best image the camera can offer. While I don't have a magic ball, I don't think we'll have better still camera video performance until we get a hacked GH3. I don't even think the unhacked GH3 will close the gap between the 154mb GOP1 intraframe 24fps codec that this camera offers. Sure other cameras will have better lowlight - but when it comes to a well exposed image under 800ISO the hacked GH2 is king.

4. Hacked Panasonic GH2 Tutorial Series - Testing Footage - ISO Bug
Brought to you by www.cavootle.com What is Cavootle? http Fourth in the Hacked GH2 Tutorial Series. In this episode we start with the footage loaded and ready to test with the streamparser software. This software will tell us that the footage has recorded at the correct bitrate, and has all red frames which represent I-frames (GOP 1) which makes this essentially a CBR Intraframe AVCHD codec. Very impressive for a $600 camera. Following this we have information on the ISO Bug which affects ISO 320 and 640 and can be countered by setting a higher ISO and returning back downward. This segment was recorded in true anamorphic which I will talk about in a later video. The video ends with using Kelvin for white balancing.

The AG-HPX250, a P2 HD handheld camcorder with 10-bit, 4:2:2 independent-frame, full 1920 x 1080 resolution AVC-Intra recording. "The AVC-Intra codec is highly prized for the stunning, master-quality 10-bit, 4:2:2 sampled, independent frame images it produces," said Joseph Facchini, Vice President of Sales and Product Management, Panasonic Solutions Company. "Now for the first time with the HPX250, Panasonic offers an ultra-portable handheld camera with full-resolution, 10-bit, intra-frame recording in a one-piece unit without the need for an add-on recorder. This is an unprecedented level of image quality in a lightweight camera." Weighing 5.5 pounds, the HPX250 incorporates high-sensitivity 1/3", full-HD 2.2 megapixel 3-MOS imagers and a 20-bit Digital Signal Processor to acquire native 1920 x 1080 resolution images. The 21X lens also features an Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS) function that ensures stable images during shooting. The HPX250 offers variable frame rate capability in 1080p up to 30fps as well as 720p up to 60fps for undercranking/overcranking to create fast or slow-motion effects. In addition to AVC-Intra 100/50 recording, the HPX250 records in DVCPRO HD, as well as standard definition recording in DVCPRO50, DVCPRO and DV. The HPX250 supports international HD and SD ...

Photokina 2012 - Panasonic DMC-GH3
Panasonic's Markus Matthes answers some of my questions about the GH3. As a current GH2 and previous GH1 user and owner of several Micro Four-thirds system lenses I had a bit of experience with the system and also knew a few other users whom I had gotten "into" the Micro Four-thirds system who had some questions that Markus helped answer. The significantly-increased video recording data rates, headphone monitoring, and intraframe compression were welcomed additions. But the still performance of this camera remains to be seen. I am told that the camera is still some time from completion and even still handling isn't yet final.

Episode 4: Hacked GH2
Hacked GH2 using the Quantum 9b beta hack by Driftwood. 149 mega bit, intraframe, mpeg-4 streams. This test footage was created using the Panasonic 14-42mm F/3.4-5.6 "kit lens." In the studio on a calibrated production monitor the footage in this video is absolutely breathtaking -- relative to detail and resolution.

Canon 5D Mk3 announcement - video features carried over from 1D X
Canon just announced the 5D mk3 - Ill post the specs below. Nuggets of info I've picked around the web say that it will essentially be equal video wise to the unreleased 1D-X. including the Intraframe codec. There are no high quality samples of the video footage yet, but the specs are a letdown for those wanting at least 1080P 60 framerates. I'm sure many Canon fans will appreciate the reduced moire and jello, but that seems like such a small improvement after such a long time. Main video specs [1920 x 1080]: 30 fps / 25 fps / 24 fps; ALL-I - 685 MB/min (91Mbit/s), IPB 235MB /min (32Mbit/s) [1280 x 720]: 60 fps / 50 fps; ALL-I - 610 MB/min (81Mbit/s), IPB 205MB /min (27Mbit/s) [640 x 480]: 30 fps / 25 fps; IPB - 78MB/min (10Mbit/s) If the recording time reaches 29 min. 59 sec., the movie shooting stops automatically. Movie shooting does not stop when the file size reaches 4GB. Clear and uncompressed HDMI output is absent
