Security Council Briefed on Darfur by ICC Prosecutor International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda presented the Court’s seventeenth briefing on the situation in Darfur, Sudan, to the Security Council. She said it was long past time for the Council to act with “courage and conviction” by adopting measures to ensure that those responsible for grave atrocities in Darfur were brought to justice sooner rather than later.  Mark Lyall Grant, Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom to the UN and President of the Security Council for the month of June, chairs the Council meeting.

Senate Foreign Relations Chairman Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., sits before the committee he has served on for 28 years and led for the past four as he seeks confirmation as U.S. secretary of state, on Capitol Hill in Washington. New U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and his South Korean counterpart have agreed to make sure North Korea is punished if it carries out its threat to conduct a nuclear test. Amid signs that such a test is coming, South Korea's president also speculated that Pyongyang may detonate multiple atomic devices simultaneously.
