Turkish workers strike – as deputy PM Arinc apologises
The Turkish government split yesterday in the face of mass uprisings and a general strike by Turkish workers and youth.
In Ankara, the Deputy Prime Minister, Bulent Arinc, called the protests against the regime ‘just and legitimate’ while the Turkish Premier, Recep Tayyip Erdogan speaking in Morocco, dismissed those opposed to him as ‘saboteurs’.

Means tests for pensioners says Balls
LABOUR will bring in a means test for winter fuel payments for the elderly if they win the next general election, Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls announced yesterday.
In a fundamental shift of Labour Party policy to the right, Balls said that more than 600,000 pensioners over the age of 61 would be hit by the change.

THREE-DAY GENERAL STRIKE IN TURKEY
AS THE mass uprising swept Turkey for a fourth day yesterday, Turkish trade unions called a three-day general strike against prime minister Erdogan’s AK Party government.
The main trade unions, including the Confederation of Revolutionary Trade Unions (DISK), the Confederation of Public Workers’ Unions (KESK), and the Education and Science Workers’ Union (Egitim-Sen), called the three day strike for today, tomorrow and Thursday.
