Clive Nolan (born 30 June 1961)^[1] is a British musician, composer and producer who has played a prominent role in the recent development of progressive rock. He has been the regular keyboard player in Pendragon (1986–present), Shadowland (1992–present), Strangers on a Train (1993–1994) and Arena (1995–present), as well as writing lyrics for Arena and producing or co-producing several other bands' albums.

At the age of sixteen, Nolan became the youngest musician in England (at the time) to gain an 'A. L. C. M' composition diploma from the London College of Music.^[2]

In 1982, Clive won the cup and two medals at the composers competition in the Cheltenham Music Festival.^[3]

Clive is a degreed musician, holding both a B Mus and M Mus. Nolan played violin, cello and viola, although his main study while at university was composition, orchestration, musical arrangement and conducting.^[4]

In 2008 Nolan's rock opera 'She' was filmed for DVD in Katowice, Poland.^[5] In 2010 the show was again performed in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. Since then, Nolan has started the Caamora Theatre Company,^[6]

Besides his Progressive Rock ventures Nolan has written a rock-opera, 'She' based upon the novel by Sir H Rider Haggard. In 2008 it was filmed for DVD in Katowice, Poland.^[7] In 2010 the show was again performed in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. Since then Nolan has started the Caamora Theatre Company,^[8] and turned 'She' into full musical, due to be performed for the first time in the UK in February.^[9]

Nolan is currently working on his new musical 'Alchemy', which will be ready for production in 2013. The libretto is based on the composer's original story.^[10]

In 2005, Nolan wrote a novel called ‘Mephisto Bridge’ which is as yet unpublished and is currently being shopped for a deal.^[11]

Classic Rock Society Best Keyboard Player award won in the years: 1995, 1996, 1998, 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2011.^[12] Honorary Visitor to Santa Cruz, Bolivia award received in 2010 from Bolivian government for his theatre work in Santa Cruz.^[13]

Alan Reed (August 20, 1907 – June 14, 1977) was an American actor and voice actor, best known as the original voice of Fred Flintstone (whom he was said to have physically resembled) on The Flintstones and various spinoff series. He also appeared in multiple films, such as The Tarnished Angels, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Viva Zapata! (as Pancho Villa), Nob Hill and various other films, as well as making acting appearances on various television series and he was the voice of Boris in Lady and the Tramp.

Life and career[link]

Born Edward Bergman in New York City, he majored in journalism at Columbia University, and then began his acting career in the city, eventually working on Broadway. He was Jewish.^[1]

For a time, he continued to list himself either as Bergman or Alan Reed, depending on the role he was playing (Reed for more comedic roles, Bergman for more serious ones). He was able to act in 22 foreign dialects, and made a career as a successful radio announcer and stage actor. In 1932, Reed married the former Finnette Walker (1909–2005), a Broadway actress. She appeared on stage in the early 1930s and was a chorus member in the original 1934 Broadway production of Anything Goes with Ethel Merman. They would have three sons, including actor Alan Reed, Jr. (born May 10, 1936).

His radio work included the role of Solomon Levy on Abie's Irish Rose; as the "Allen's Alley" resident poet Falstaff Openshaw on Fred Allen's NBC Radio show, and later on his own five-minute show, Falstaff's Fables, on the American Broadcasting Company; as Officer Clancey and other occasional roles on the NBC Radio show Duffy's Tavern; as Shrevey the driver on several years of The Shadow; as Chester Riley's boss on the NBC Radio show The Life of Riley, and as Italian immigrant Pasquale in Life with Luigi on CBS Radio, and various supporting roles on Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar, also on CBS Radio.

From 1957–58, Reed appeared in a recurring role as J.B. Hafter, a studio boss, on the CBS sitcom Mr. Adams and Eve, starring Howard Duff and Ida Lupino, then married in real life but appearing as a fictitious acting couple living in Beverly Hills, California. In 1964–65, he had a recurring role as Mr. Swidler in the ABC sitcom Mickey starring Mickey Rooney as the owner of a resort hotel in Newport Beach, California.

His final performance as Fred Flintstone was a cameo guest shot on an episode of Scooby's All-Star Laff-A-Lympics.

Death[link]

Reed died of a heart attack in Los Angeles, California on June 14, 1977, two months shy of his 70th birthday. His body was donated to the Loma Linda University School of Medicine. He was survived by his wife, sons and several grandchildren.

Oliver Wakeman (26 February 1972)^[1] is a rock keyboardist, best known as a member of Yes, where he replaced his father, Rick Wakeman.

Biography[link]

Oliver is the first son of Rick Wakeman. His parents divorced when he was young.

Solo[link]

He worked with Clive Nolan (of Arena) on two progressive rock concept albums, Jabberwocky (released 1999) and Hound of the Baskervilles. Tracy Hitchings appears on both albums, while Rick Wakeman (narrating) and Yes alumnus Peter Banks both appeared on Jabberwocky.

For several years Wakeman has worked with Steve Howe, his father's bandmate in Yes. The two lived fairly close to each other in south-west England. Howe guested on Wakeman's solo album The 3 Ages of Magick, while Wakeman is on Howe's 2005 solo album Spectrum and contributed to Howe's recording of "Australia" for the US version of the Yes collection The Ultimate Yes: 35th Anniversary Collection.

Wakeman has written a CD inspired by his visits to and experiences on Lundy, a small island in the Bristol Channel. He has toured with Bob Catley in the UK and Europe and also guested on an Ayreon project 'The Human Equation' in 2004. Wakeman replaced keyboardist Herb Schildt for the American progressive rock band Starcastle, known for their Yes-like sound, at RoSfest (Rites of Spring festival) 2007.

During 2006 and 2007 Oliver took to the road with his new band performing selections from his 'Mother's Ruin' album as well as songs from his back catalogue.

He is currently working with Gordon Giltrap on a new project for release in 2013.^[2]

Yes[link]

In 2008, the official Yes website announced that Oliver Wakeman would tour with Yes in the bands 40th anniversary tour.^[3] However, the tour was postponed due to the illness of Yes singer Jon Anderson. A revamped In The Present Tour featuring Steve Howe, Chris Squire and Alan White of Yes plus Oliver Wakeman and Canadian singer Benoît David (filling in for Anderson) began in the fall of 2008 and continued into 2009. The second leg of the tour was cancelled after one date when Squire had to have an urgent leg operation on 11 February.^[4]

The band returned to touring in summer 2009 and have continued through to summer 2010. They have signed to Frontiers Records, an Italian record company. Yes started work on an album, with Wakeman, in October/November 2010 followed by a tour of South America in November/December of that year. Though he worked with the band on the initial sessions for their first album in 10 years, Fly From Here, he was dismissed from Yes during recording. Wakeman stayed on for the Rite of Spring tour (March to early April 2011) and has formally left following its completion. Asia and Drama era Yes keyboardist Geoff Downes, who replaced Wakeman for the rest of the album's sessions, was later announced by as keyboardist for its upcoming summer tour. ^[5] Some of Wakeman's contributions to Fly From Here nevertheless made it onto the released version of the album, and he was even credited as having co-written one track.

Strawbs[link]

In 2009, Wakeman joined Strawbs (another of his father's former bands) in their tours of Canada, the UK and Italy.^[6] He continued with the band, his first album with the band being Dancing to the Devil's Beat, recorded and released in 2009. Wakeman will not be with the band for their late 2010 touring given his prior commitment to recording with Yes.^[7]

Martin Orford (born 10 June 1959, Bitterne, Southampton^[1]) is an English keyboard player best known as the keyboardist and founder member of progressive rock bands IQ and Jadis. He also worked with former King Crimson, UK and Asia bassist John Wetton, and released a solo album, Classical Music and Popular Songs in 2000.^[2] Orford appeared on two Big Big Train albums, Goodbye To The Age of Steam and English Boy Wonders.

Orford won the "Best Keyboard Player" category at the Best of the Year Classic Rock Society Award in 2004.^[3]

Orford's latest solo album The Old Road ^[4] (GEPCD1037) was released in October 2008. The album features guest appearances from John Wetton, Nick D'Virgilio and Dave Meros (Spock's Beard), Steve Thorne, John Mitchell (It Bites/Arena), Gary Chandler (Jadis), Dave Oberle (Gryphon), David Longdon and Andy Edwards (IQ)

Orford announced that he would quit the music industry ^[5] completely at the end of 2008, citing disillusionment with internet piracy and the 'free music' culture as the principal reason (source Orford 16 October 2008). However, he continues to perform live occasionally, most recently at MelloFest 2009^[6] where he performed tracks from The Old Road as well as some IQ numbers.
