Mister, usually written in its abbreviated form Mr or Mr. (American English), is a commonly used English honorific for men under the rank of knighthood. The title derived from master, as the equivalent female titles, Mrs., Miss, and Ms, all derived from the archaic mistress. The title master was retained and used for boys and young men, but is now less commonly used. The plural form is Misters, or the abbreviation Messrs (UK) or Messrs. (US) ( /ˈmɛsərz/). This is an English abbreviation of the French "messieurs" (French pronunciation: [mesjø]), sometimes pronounced /ˈmɛsərz/ in English.
When addressing someone directly: Mr. is usually used with the last name only ("May I help you, Mr. Thompson?"). In other circumstances, it can be used with either the last name or the full name ("This is Mr. John Smith."; "Would you please help, Mr Smith?"). In formal written address, it is usually used along with the full name, or with initials and surname.
When a man's name is unknown, "mister" is sometimes used informally by itself in direct address, as in, "Hello, mister," or "Are you all right, mister?" rather than the standard form of address, "Sir". Though not necessarily meant disrespectfully, such use may to some people seem rude.
Wilbur Francis "Pete" Henry (October 31, 1897 – February 7, 1952) was a professional American football player and coach in the National Football League. He later worked for more than 20 years as athletic director and occasional football coach at Washington & Jefferson College, his alma mater.
Henry attended college at Washington & Jefferson, where he was an All-American tackle. In 1919, the reigning national champion Pittsburgh Panthers argued that Henry was an ineligible college player and refused to play against him. A gentleman's agreement among all college teams generally allowed players, like Henry, whose 1918 seasons were cut short by mandatory training for World War I to play. In fact, Pitt played several other teams with similarly situated players on several teams without complaint. The Panthers' stand caused an outcry among the local press and the Pitt alumni, but Henry agreed to sit out the game. In the end, Pitt won the game 7–6. In his later years, Henry was not one to keep souvenirs, but he did keep the program from that game.
"Pumped Up Kicks" is a song by American indie pop band Foster the People. It was released as the group's debut single in September 2010, and the following year was included on their EP Foster the People and their debut album Torches. "Pumped Up Kicks" became the group's breakthrough hit and was one of the most popular songs of 2011. The song was written and recorded by frontman Mark Foster while he was working as a commercial jingle writer. Contrasting with the upbeat musical composition, the lyrics describe the homicidal thoughts of a troubled youth.
The track received considerable attention after it was posted online in 2010 as a free download, and it helped the group garner a multi-album record deal with Columbia Records imprint Startime International before they had issued a commercial release. The song became both a crossover hit and a sleeper hit in 2011, as it received significant airplay on modern rock and contemporary hit radio stations. The song spent eight consecutive weeks at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States, making it the first Billboard Alternative Songs number-one single to crack the U.S. top 5 since Kings of Leon's "Use Somebody" in 2009. The song was widely praised by critics, and it has been licensed for use in a wide range of popular media since its release. "Pumped Up Kicks" received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
Suga Pop is a "street dance" practitioner and choreographer based in the United States. He is known for his work in "popping" and "locking", styles of dance collectively grouped under the umbrella term "funk styles". These styles are associated with the U.S. West Coast, particularly California. He has been affiliated with the performance groups Electric Boogaloos and Rock Steady Crew.
Suga Pop worked with artists such as Michael Jackson, James Brown, Lionel Richie, Janet Jackson, and Sheila E in the 1980s and 1990s, touring as a dancer, featuring in televised performances such as Herbie Hancock's performance of "Rockit" at the 1984 Grammy Awards, and appearing in such seminal pop musical videos as Michael Jackson's "Beat It" and "Thriller," and Janet Jackson's "That's The Way Love Goes." After touring as a dancer with Lionel Richie, and then with Sheila E in support of Prince's Purple Rain Tour of 1984-1985, Suga Pop ventured into music collaboration and production. He has subsequently played live with such acts as A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Amp Fiddler, Cypress Hill, Brand Nubian, LL Cool J, Third Bass, and the Boo-Yaa T.R.I.B.E., in addition to recording and releasing his own material under the band name Pop's Cool Love, and mostly recently, under the name Pop. A video for the single "My Suga" was loaded to YouTube in 2011, and the single is available on iTunes.
From the ocean comes a notion
That the real eyes lies in rhythm
And the rhythm of vision is a dancer
From the lookin' come the seeing
One with real eyes realize
The rhythm of vision is a dancer
And when he dance, it's always on the one
Going down you can see sounds of silence
Primal heartbeats could be seen with the naked eye
Ee didy awk, oh, I'm the jock and I'm back
(The one with real eyes realize that the reason)
On the scene with the record machine
Sayin' ooh papa doo, how d'y'all do?
(Is that everything is on the one)
I'm Mr. Wiggles the worm
These are my ladies Giggle and Squirm
Three bionic idiots
Your deejays for the Affair
Where we'll be gettin' down
And won't be comin' up for air
May I have this swim?
Mr. Wiggles here, sayin', "May we funk you?"
I got a string on my thing
Rhythm in my thing
Wind me up
I can do my thing underwater
I got a string attached to my thing
When you pull my string
I can do my thing like I oughta
Ooh, the Motor Booty Affair this is the big one
The marathon, not your average 50 yard dash of funk
The Olympics, cross country style
Comin' to you from number one Bimini Road
(I got a string on my thing)
In beautiful downtown Atlantis
(Rhythm in my thing)
Where you might see the jellyfish jammin' with the salmon
(I can do my thing underwater)
Come face to face with a mouth named Jaws
(I got a string attached to my thing)
Freak out with a Mermaid named Rita
(When you pull my string, I can do my thing like I oughta)
And meet Mr. Wiggles the worm
I got wheels on my thing, oh
Real in my thing
Emerald city
I can do my thing underwater
I got a string attached to my thing
When you pull my string
I can do my thing like I oughta
Check me out
I can slide between the molecules
Of wetness like an eel through seaweed
One slithering idiot
Mr. Wiggles here, your DJ for the Affair
Where we'll be getting down and won't be coming up for air
So, you can leave your nose at home
You might wanna rent a blow hole, oh
(That's how it goes in the land of no nose)
Let me bait my rap, go wiggle
(The best stroke is the breast stroke)
This fish tale begins where most fish tails end
With a school of fool fish
Playin' hooky from school but gettin' caught and likin' it
I got a string on my thing, oh
Reel in my thing
Go wiggle ya'll
I can do my thing underwater
I got a string attached to my thing, yo yo
Wheel on my string
(Aquaboogie, baby)
I can do my thing like I oughta
Eee ditty I, oh, I'm jock
And I'm back on the scene
With my record machine
Sayin', ooh poppa doo how ya'll doin'?
Mr. Wiggles the worm here
Sayin' this is an underwater story
In the fields of your mind
(I can do my thing underwater)
We're swimmin' past a clock
Who has its hand behind its back
On past reality, he ain't lookin' for a moment
We'll leave a candle in the windows
Of our conscious mind
And we'll find our way back to the one end time
(I got wheels on my thing, when you pull my string)
The Motor Booty Affair
(I can do my thing underwater)
Where you can dance underwater and not get wet
(I got a string attached to my thing)
Aqua dooloop a baby
(When you pull my string)
Rhythm
(I can do my thing like I oughta)
Mr. Wiggles here on roller skates and a yo yo
