Happy HolyDaze

December 9, 2012

And To All
inner star astronauts and winter solitude savorers,
warm weather worshippers and faraway neighbors,
burlesque banshees eating turkish delight
and moon splashed mermaids this coming full moon night

To All
mistletoe haunting spell weaving witches

vinyl rocking warlocks scratching their itches
blood lusting Rev loving Hammer horror film lingerie queens
and the candle-eyed minx-like 21rst century changelings

To All
universal monadists and dream yoga buddhists
sirens on the shore saving gluten-free holiday foodists
glitter wolves and wisemen who've lent us their ears
and lotus flower lasses who've stood with us through the years

We wish you

what it is you wish for
for what else is there to wish for
at such a strange balancing point in our lives
here in the now of this wonderful time of year
but health, harmony and happiness
on the inside and outside of one another...

And so to all
Happy HolyDaze
And a silent Solstice dear
And to a lifetime ahead
of outer space starry nights
and inner space starry cheer.
.

The Very Best From Us
To You And To All In Your Sphere

See You On The Other Side,
Jonathan and Grasshopper

Mercury Rev Fredonia

Mercury Rev Fredonia: photo by ?Kris Peterson? l to r ... Dave Baker, Suzanne Thorpe, Jonathan, Dave Fridmann and Grasshopper. (not pictured Jimy Chambers)

This has to be one of the few photos from our earliest of days as (nearly) a whole group before we headed overseas... Jimy Chambers was likely on his way down from Buffalo to Fredonia where this photo may have been taken before our first live show as Mercury Rev at local bar BJ's in the spring of 1991... Yes it is still there, though it may have changed hands since then. Keith Cleversly did our sound engineering that night, which according to our Deserter's era engineer Jack Shaw (then a student at SUNY Fredonia) could be heard from half a mile away where he was living. BJ's actually had a sidewalk billboard up in front with a disclaimer apologizing to patrons for the inconvenience of the live show... It was a really fun night. Our record exec Graham Combi had flown over along with Melody Maker's Chris Roberts... Grasshopper's mother sat right in the front along with many of his Polish relatives cheering us on! We probably played all six songs we knew>>> A really cherished period in my life as everyone in this photo really has changed my life for the better... And yes, in answer to a recent post, the next LP has wings and is in flight... Grasshopper is scouting local sweet spots to record, Dave and Mary Fridmann have completed their summer camping experiments, and i am beginning to crawl out from under a mountain of crushing self-doubt i needlessly crawled under sometime ago... --->>> yes, there's Good Times Ahead!

- Yours, Jonathan

CHINA

May 17, 2012

It is with great regret and a heavy heart, that we are unable to perform in China this weekend.

Unfortunately, due to communication issues beyond our control, the correct documents did not arrive in time, so we are not able to make the trip.

We have waited a very long time to be able to perform in China, which makes this situation even more upsetting, but we sincerely hope to make it there one day (hopefully sooner rather than later).

DESERTER'S SONGS DELUXE RE-RELEASES!

MERCURY REV return in May with a deluxe double CD reissue of their classic 1998 album, DESERTER’S SONGS. The release comes complete with a 13-track bonus disc of unreleased demos and out-takes… And to coincide with and celebrate the release, Mercury Rev will be performing the album in full across much of Ireland, UK, Europe, Croatia and Turkey! DESERTER'S SONGS will be re-released on V2/CO-OP in most of the world and on Fontana in North America.

"They're back, they're back. Three years off and then they stroke a furrowed brow like an album of the year should. Too gorgeous" - Melody Maker July 1998

"Deserter's Songs is at once a lullaby, a trip, and a triumph." - Pitchfork (Top 100 Albums of the 1990's)

***** - Uncut Magazine Sept 1998

"A modern classic." – NME

"Deserter's Songs, feels like a watershed, the point where their heady mix of orchestral pop, roots rock, psychedelia, prog, choral, and chamber music finally crystallizes into something special and damn near ineffable… let's just call Deserter's Songs the art-rock album of the year." – Entertainment Weekly

"Deserter’s Songs" was released to huge worldwide acclaim and went on to be named album of the year in 1998 by NME, MOJO and many other publications. The record merged jazz, folk, Disney soundtrack fantasia, 60s rock (The Band’s legendary Levon Helm and Garth Hudson guested on the album) with sweeping orchestration and heralded Mercury Rev’s rebirth as purveyors of a cosmic brand of the popular American songbook. "Deserter’s Songs" was also a bona-fide hit, generating three Top 40 singles, propelling the legendary iconoclasts into living rooms worldwide, and pioneered the launch of a new genre of alternative music!

Also as an added bonus, look for the EXTRA 3rd disc "AN EVENING AT BARROWLAND BALLROOM", a live Recording from Glasgow Scotland which will be shrink-wrapped to the Limited Deserter's Songs Deluxe Edition absolutely FREE (but only for a brief time)! It's the very first LIVE REV RECORD officially released by the band and features over 70 minutes from a classic 2005 Scottish performance. This will go fast and won't be available again so get your pre-orders in!

And let's not forget VINYL!!!! Both "Deserter's Songs" and the "Deserted Song's" Album of unreleased songs and outtakes will be released on 180 gram virgin vinyl with a deluxe gate-fold sleeve on the audiophile world renowned US label 'LIGHT IN THE ATTIC' as the flagship release on their newest division 'MODERN CLASSICS'. A fantastic package!!!
