Legendary Esquire Designer Slams Esquire Design
NEW YORK (YouTube.com/AdAge) -- Legendary magazine and advertising designer George Lois doesn't think much of Esquire's recent attempt to promote the battery-powered cover of its October issue as the start of a new age. He said as a former Esquire art director, he was "embarassed" by the "silly gimmick" that was not in keeping with the publication's stature. In a video interview with Ad Age media reporter Nat Ives, Mr. Lois also had some similarly critical things to say about The New Yorker as well as his own relationship with Advertising Age.

George Lois and Anthony Kalamut - Advertising Week 2009
George Lois is often described as "An Advertising Legend", "The King of Madison Avenue", or the "Leader of the Creative Revolution". And he knows it. It's a role he not only fits into well, but wears like an old coat; it's not flashy, it's not trying to impress anyone, it's just a part of who he is. Ryan recorded the video in NYC at the Paley Center for the Arts on Sept 23, 2009 during an exclusive sit-down with Anthony Kalamut, the coordinator of the Creative Advertising program at Seneca College in Toronto.

George Lois Damn Good Advice - Getting to Know George - Part 5 on The BuzzBubble
We wrap up our interview with the legendary George Lois with our fifth and final installment today. As we wind down from industry talk, we get to know the man behind the legend. In sharing some of his personal thoughts, we learn about George's love of music, including a passion for opera and a sentimental attachment to Greek music. From there, he details some of his experiences as a Greek American, and shares some valuable insight and opinions on Greek cuisine. Moving on, George not only shares his favorite word, but explains the appeal and the philosophy behind it. As we shift from philosophy into catharsis with curse words, we end up calling back to the work of another great George -- namely, George Carlin. We get a glimpse of his personal ethos as we learn the words he'd most like to hear upon arriving in a theoretical Heaven and, finally, wrap things up with a rundown of how he's keeping (very) busy these days.
