http://democracynow.org - During Thursday’s Democratic debate, Bernie Sanders picked up on a point that Hillary Clinton made during last week’s face-off in New Hampshire about her admiration for former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger. "She talked about getting the approval or the support or the mentoring of Henry Kissinger," Sanders said. "Now, I find it rather amazing, because I happen to believe that Henry Kissinger was one of the most destructive secretaries of state in the modern history of this country. … I am proud to say that Henry Kissinger is not my friend. I will not take advice from Henry Kissinger." Clinton responded that Sanders has failed to answer questions about whom he would have advise him on foreign policy. Sanders told her, "Well, it ain’t Henry Kissinger. That’s for sure." We get reaction from economist Jeffrey Sachs, whose recent article is headlined "Hillary is the Candidate of the War Machine," and from Congressmember Gregory Meeks, Democrat of New York and chair of the Congressional Black Caucus political action committee, which has endorsed Hillary Clinton.

ABOUT HILLARY CLINTON
Hillary Clinton has served as Secretary of State, Senator from New York, First Lady of the United States, First Lady of Arkansas, a practicing lawyer and law professor, activist, and volunteer, but the first things her friends and family will tell you is that she’s never forgotten where she came from or who she’s been fighting for throughout her life. Hillary was raised in a suburb of Illinois where she attended public school and was raised a Methodist by her parents. She attended Wellesley College, and went on to study law at Yale. After attending Yale Law School, she went to work for the Children’s Defense Fund, going door to door in New Bedford, Massachusetts. After serving as a lawyer for the Congressional Committee investigating President Nixon, she moved to Arkansas where she taught law and ran legal clinics representing poor people. She co-founded Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families, one of the state’s first child advocacy groups. As First Lady under President Bill Clinton, Hillary tenaciously led the fight to reform our health care system so that all our families have access to the care they need at affordable prices. Hillary led the U.S. delegation to Beijing to attend the UN Fourth World Conference on Women and gave a groundbreaking speech, declaring that “human rights are women's rights and women's rights are human rights once and for all”—inspiring women worldwide and helping to galvanize a global movement for women’s rights and opportunities. Hillary was then elected to the U.S. Senate, becoming the first woman senator from New York. She repeatedly worked across the aisle to get things done, including working alongside Republicans after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. When Congress wouldn't do enough for rural areas and small towns, Hillary didn’t back down. She launched innovative partnerships with the tech industry and provided support to local colleges and small businesses. When President Obama asked Hillary to serve as his secretary of state, she answered the call to public service once again. She was a forceful champion for human rights, internet freedom, and rights and opportunities for women and girls, LGBT people and young people all around the globe. Now she’s running for President because everyday Americans need a champion and she wants to be that champion.

Now she’s running for President because everyday Americans need a champion and she want to be that champion.

"For months, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders seemed to run for president in parallel universes. Clinton focused her criticism on Republicans and rarely targeted Sanders. She did not even say his name in public until long after the first debate. They raced like lap swimmers, each in their own lane.
But with snow settling on New Hampshire and a loss likely in the Granite State on Tuesday, Clinton and her allies have turned their fire on the Vermont senator. In the last weeks, Clinton, her husband Bill, daughter Chelsea, allied super PACs, surrogates and members of Congress have by turns accused Sanders of hypocrisy, inconsistency and cutting corners. The Clintons, well-accustomed to decades of intense scrutiny by Republicans, now are giving Sanders a more thorough appraisal than he has ever had in his career.
Frustrated Clinton aides believe that Sanders is a politician like any other. Sanders has flip-flopped on gun control, Wall Street donations and immigration reform, they say, changing his views when it is politically expedient."*

Hillary Clinton -- a veteran political brawler -- on Thursday flashed genuine anger and disbelief that Democratic presidential rival Bernie Sanders is casting doubt on her authenticity as a warrior in the left's great battles against Republicans.
The former secretary of state accused Sanders of delivering an "artful smear" by suggesting her political favor could be bought by rich donors.
"If you have something to say, say it," Clinton said as she and Sanders met at a debate in New Hampshire that was broadcast on MSNBC.
A fight has been brewing between Sanders and Clinton for days over who is the most genuine progressive after the Vermont senator said that she could not be a moderate and a progressive at the same time. They sparred five days before their next nominating clash, in the New Hampshire primary. A new CNN/WMUR tracking poll published on Thursday showed that Sanders still has a formidable 61% to 30% lead over Clinton among likely primary voters in the Granite State.
The Sanders assault clearly frustrated Clinton, who vociferously defended herself as a progressive who gets results and has spent decades working on children's rights and health care.
"I am not making promises that I can't keep," she said.
Clinton said that by Sanders' definition of progressive politics, there would be nobody left in the movement, including President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and the late Sen. Paul Wellstone, who was a hero to liberals.
Sanders hit back by pointing out that Clinton had referred to herself as a moderate at an event in Ohio last year. And he said that Obama and Biden had done a "fantastic job" pulling America back from the Great Recession.
"Do I think President Obama is a progressive? Yes, I do," Sanders said, though he added that he disagreed with the President on the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade pact.
True outsider
Sanders billed himself as the true outsider candidate in the race, while suggesting that Clinton was the candidate of the establishment. He argued that she would never be able to get money out of politics because she has a multimillion-dollar super PAC.
At one point, as their tempers started to flare, Clinton and Sanders spoke over the top of one another as they sparred over the definition of progressive politics.
"Instead of arguing about definitions, let's talk about what we should do (as president)," Sanders said.
Clinton wasn't the only one to show anger during the debate.
Sanders delivered a characteristically loud performance, directing his own anger at Wall Street, which he described as an "entity of unbelievable economic and political power."
When the debate turned to foreign policy, Clinton found a new way to deflect criticism over her 2002 vote to authorize the war in Iraq, which has haunted her political career ever since.
"A vote in 2002 is not a plan to defeat ISIS," Clinton told Sanders, arguing that it is now more important to defeat the terror group that has taken over vast areas of Iraq and Syria than continue to argue about the roots of the Iraq War.
Sanders countered that the decision on whether to wage war on Iraq was a question of judgment and recalled that he cast an opposite vote to Clinton's while he was a member of the House.
Clinton, meanwhile, was asked to reassure Democratic voters that the FBI inquiry into the private email server that she used as secretary of state would not lead to damaging revelations on her conduct and handling of classified information that could blow up her campaign if she is the party's presidential nominee.
"I have absolutely no concerns about it whatsoever," Clinton said. "I am 100% confident."
Sanders refused to take the opportunity to criticize Clinton over the email issue.
After the debate, the Clinton campaign blasted Sanders on foreign policy, accusing him of drawing a clumsy comparison between the U.S. policy of opening diplomatic relations with Cuba and the proper way to approach Iran, which remains locked in confrontation with Washington despite the clinching of a nuclear deal last year.
Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook told CNN's Don Lemon that Clinton has shown herself able to handle both domestic policy and to serve as commander in chief.
"I think you saw Sen. Sanders fail that national security test," Mook said.
But Jeff Weaver, who is Sanders' campaign manager, said that much of the debate unfolded on issues that his candidate had introduced in the campaign -- namely the influence of big money in politics.
And he denied that Sanders was guilty of an underhand smear against Clinton.
"These big companies that give all this big money don't do it just out of the goodness of their heart, they are thinking they are getting something back for it," Weaver told Lemon.

Hillary Clinton promised in a recent debate that she'd "look into" releasing transcripts of her paid speeches. The Hillary Clinton campaign has now responded to her debate statement on transcripts, and the answer may surprise you. Cenk Uygur and John Iadarola of The Young Turks break it down. Do you think Clinton should release the transcripts to her paid speeches?

"Appearing on ABC’s This Week, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that she is willing to release transcripts of her private speeches just as soon as everyone else who has given a paid speech releases theirs.
The Democratic presidential candidate has been under heavy fire from critics and surrogates from rival Bernie Sanders’ campaign over speeches she gave to Goldman Sachs that netted her over $600,000. During the last Democratic debate, Clinton said she would look into releasing transcripts from those speeches."

The term Watergate has come to encompass an array of clandestine and often illegal activities undertaken by members of the Nixon administration. Those activities included "dirty tricks" such as bugging the offices of political opponents and people of whom Nixon or his officials were suspicious. Nixon and his close aides ordered harassment of activist groups and political figures, using the FBI, CIA, and the Internal Revenue Service. The activities became known after five men were caught breaking into Democratic party headquarters at the Watergate complex in Washington, D.C. on June 17, 1972. The Washington Post picked up on the story; reporters Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward relied on an informant known as "Deep Throat"—later revealed to be Mark Felt, associate director at the FBI—to link the men to the Nixon administration. Nixon downplayed the scandal as mere politics, calling news articles biased and misleading. As a series of revelations made it clear that Nixon aides had committed crimes in attempts to sabotage the Democrats and others, senior aides such as White House Counsel John Dean and Chief of Staff H. R. Haldeman faced prosecution.[104][194][195]
In July 1973, White House aide Alexander Butterfield testified that Nixon had a secret taping system that recorded his conversations and phone calls in the Oval Office. These tapes were subpoenaed by Watergate Special Counsel Archibald Cox. Nixon refused to release them, citing executive privilege. With the White House and Cox at loggerheads, Nixon had Cox fired in October in the "Saturday Night Massacre"; he was replaced by Leon Jaworski. In November, Nixon's lawyers revealed that an audio tape of conversations, held in the White House on June 20, 1972, featured an 18½ minute gap.[195] Rose Mary Woods, the President's personal secretary, claimed responsibility for the gap, alleging that she had accidentally wiped the section while transcribing the tape, though her tale was widely mocked. The gap, while not conclusive proof of wrongdoing by the President, cast doubt on Nixon's statement that he had been unaware of the cover-up.[196]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_nixon
At the height of Kissinger's prominence, many commented on his wit. In one instance, at the Washington Press Club annual congressional dinner, "Kissinger mocked his reputation as a secret swinger."[76] He was quoted as saying "Power is the ultimate aphrodisiac."[77]
Kissinger has shied away from mainstream media and cable talk shows. He granted a rare interview to the producers of a documentary examining the underpinnings of the 1979 peace treaty between Israel and Egypt entitled Back Door Channels: The Price of Peace.[78] In the film, a candid Kissinger reveals how close he felt the world was to nuclear war during the 1973 Yom Kippur War launched by Egypt and Syria against Israel.
A feature length documentary titled Kissinger, by Scottish historian Niall Ferguson and produced by Chimerica Media, was released in 2011 on the National Geographic Channel.
Since he left office, some efforts have been made to hold Kissinger responsible for perceived injustices of American foreign policy during his tenure in government. These charges have at times inconvenienced his travels.[79] Christopher Hitchens, the late British-American journalist and author, was highly critical of Kissinger, authoring The Trial of Henry Kissinger, in which Hitchens called for the prosecution of Kissinger "for war crimes, for crimes against humanity, and for offenses against common or customary or international law, including conspiracy to commit murder, kidnap, and torture".[80][81][82]
On April 8, 2013, WikiLeaks published what they said were 1.7 million U.S. diplomatic and intelligence documents from 1973 to 1976, calling them the Kissinger cables. The release is part of information that was already previously available from the National Archives and Records Administration, but now harmonizes spellings of names and places between cables, and includes updated meta data to assist in searching and organization of the cables.

Included in Hitchens' remarks "Kissinger's never said a word of self criticism. Not one. And he gets very petulant and angry and spoiled and ugly when he's criticized...But if he was to try it, I'd be fascinated to meet him. Of course."

Combined with the department’s previous document releases –- which totaled 44,818 pages -– the total count of Clinton documents released is now 45,830 pages.
Earlier this week a federal judge ordered the State Department speed up production of Clinton's emails, a process that was supposed to be completed by the end of January. The State Department has said the review is burdensome and time consuming.
So far 22 of her emails had to be upgraded to "Top Secret" and withheld from public release. Clinton's campaign has been dogged by accusations she put national security information at risk, but her campaign says certain elements of the State Department and Intelligence Community are conspiring with Republicans in Congress to smear her. She maintains that none of the information she handled at the time it was sent was marked as classified.
The State Department says it is conducting an investigation to determine if any of those "Top Secret" emails should have been marked classified at the time they were sent.
Of the emails released today, 84 had to be upgraded -- most of them to the low "Confidential" level of classified material. Three of them, however, had to be marked "Secret."

Bernie Enjoys Winning Media Week; Faces Fox’s Wallace Next As Hillary Continues to Hide
If his sit-down with Fox’s Chris Wallace is any indication, Bernie Sanders continues to be one step ahead of Hillary Clinton, especially on the media front. This as a new poll shows the Vermont senator now tied with Clinton in next-up Nevada, 45-45.
The poll — albeit conducted by the conservative Washington Free Beacon — is still a shocker considering that Hillary once led Bernie by 54 points in Nevada. 54. Needless to say, the wind behind Sanders’ back is now at gale force following his 21+-point blowout of the former Secretary of State in New Hampshire. And from a media perspective this week alone, he’s making all the right moves in terms of reaching different kinds of audiences: Saturday Night Live with Larry David, a highly-publicized breakfast meeting with Al Sharpton the morning after the win in NH, The View later that morning… all with the usual interviews across CNN and MSNBC sprinkled in throughout the week.
But arguably the biggest moment of Bernie’s recent media schedule will come on Sunday morning when he joins Wallace––arguably the best, most objective, pound-for-pound interviewer in the game regardless of party or subject––on Fox News Sunday. It’s obviously a bold move by Sanders to go where some Democrats deem as enemy territory. But Bernie knows Wallace won’t grandstand or showboat or turn the discussion into a circus, having appeared on the program once before since announcing his candidacy last spring.

At this point, Hillary appears on a swing dropping from the ceiling while singing the Raitt hit, containing the lines, “Cause I can’t make you love me if you don’t, you can’t make your heart feel something it won’t.”
The former Secretary of State is later accompanied by former President Bill Clinton, as she lolls on a cabaret piano while the former president admits he’s not really playing it.

U.S. State Department investigators last year issued a subpoena to the Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation seeking documents about projects run by the charity that may have required U.S. government approval when Hillary Clinton was secretary of state, the Washington Post reported on Thursday.
A U.S. official said the matter was being investigated by the Inspector General, the State Department's internal watchdog.
Citing unnamed sources for the report, the Post said the subpoena issued in the fall also asked for records related to senior Clinton aide Huma Abedin, who for six months in 2012 simultaneously worked for several employers including the State Department, the foundation, and Clinton's personal office.
The report follows a Reuters investigation last year that found the Clinton Foundation's flagship health project did not submit new or increased payments from at least seven foreign governments to the State Department for review, in breach of the ethics agreement Clinton signed with the incoming Obama administration in order to become secretary of state.
Clinton, who is running for the Democratic nomination in the Nov. 8 presidential election, has been criticized for using a private email account hosted on a private computer while secretary of state from 2009 to 2013, a matter the FBI is investigating.
Spokesmen for Clinton's campaign and the Clinton Foundation and a lawyer for Abedin did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment. A spokesman for the Inspector General also declined to comment.
The Post quoted an unnamed foundation representative as saying the initial document request had been narrowed by investigators and that the foundation was not the focus of the probe. It said there was no indication that the investigators were looking at Clinton.
"The full scope and status of the inquiry, conducted by the State Department’s inspector general, were not clear from the material correspondence reviewed by the Washington Post," the paper said.
Sources familiar with investigations into the controversy surrounding Clinton's private email server said they had no reason to believe any government agency was conducting any kind of inquiry into possible criminal violations related to the former secretary of state.

The first female secretary of state, Madeleine Albright said she did not mean to tell “a large number of women to go to hell” at a Hillary Clinton campaign event last week.
At the New Hampshire event, Albright repeated her well worn statement “There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help each other.”
Albright’s comment was seen as condemning women who do not support Clinton’s run for the Democratic nomination. In a New York Times editorial published on Friday Albright wrote that it was wrong context and the wrong time to use that line.
She said the comment was not meant as an argument for women to support a candidate on lines of gender alone.

President Barack Obama's former top military intelligence official said Hillary Clinton should pull out of the presidential race while the FBI investigate her use of a private email server for official government communication while secretary of state.Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, the retired chief of the Defense Intelligence Agency, made the call in an interview with Jake Tapper on "The Lead.""If it were me, I would have been out the door and probably in jail," said Flynn, who decried what he said was a "lack of accountability, frankly, in a person who should have been much more responsible in her actions as the secretary of state of the United States of America."Clinton campaign spokesman Brian Fallon later told Tapper the general's suggestion was "just silly" and pointed to similar FBI probes of former Secretary of State Colin Powell and of aides to former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice."In both of those two cases, you now have the same agency looking at their emails, personal emails, and saying that there is information that in retrospect they think should be treated as classified," Fallon said. "The exact same situation playing out in the two previous secretaries before Secretary Clinton. So I think that tells you everything about the relative seriousness of this."When pressed by CNN, Flynn said, "I don't have any personal evidence" that Clinton or one of her staffers took material off a classified server and put it on an unclassified server.Since leaving office, Flynn has been fiercely critical of the Obama administration's approach to the Middle East and has told Tapper that the President's advisors are more concerned with appearances than hard realities. Flynn said Friday that he has advised Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on national security issues
The FBI confirmed in a February 2 letter to U.S. District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan that it is officially investigating Clinton's use of a private server at her home in Chappaqua, New York, to conduct business while she was secretary of state. Two government agencies have flagged emails on Clinton's server as containing classified information, according to a January 14 letter that Intelligence Community Inspector General I. Charles McCullough III sent lawmakers. Some emails were on "special access programs," a subset of the highest "Top Secret" level of classification that falls under even tougher control rules than other Top Secret information. The Democratic presidential candidate has repeatedly pointed to State Department findings that at the time the emails were sent, the information wasn't classified. The State Department has said that some emails were classified retroactively. The Clinton campaign has also pointed to a dispute between the State Department and the intelligence community over which kinds of documents should be classified. And it has charged that the investigation is politically motivated.Fallon has said Clinton's campaign believes McCullough is working with Republican lawmakers to make sure the information becomes public to embarrass their candidate. Republicans asked the inspector general to investigate in March."This over-classification excuse is not an excuse," Flynn said Friday. "If it's classified, it's classified."Flynn, who headed the Defense Intelligence Agency from July 2012 to August 2014, told Tapper that Clinton "knew better" given the roles that she has had as a senator, a secretary of state, "even back when she was married to the president of the United States, she was going to have privileged information in that regard."

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton lashed out at Senator Bernie Sanders at the February 11 Democrat debate for his past criticisms of President Obama. Sen. Sanders defended himself saying senators "have the right to disagree with the president."
Hillary Clinton wants you to know she’s a more realistic, more savvy version of Bernie Sanders.
She, too, wants to close corporate loopholes, make college and health care more affordable and get tough on Wall Street. Just as Sanders does, except she’d proceed more carefully and practically.
Same with Social Security, and income inequality. Me, too, she said. Just better.

The Kelly File 2/12/16 - Donald Trump slams Ted Cruz, Negative Ads in South Carolina, Hillary Clinton email investigation widens, What it takes to win South Carolina.
Groups opposing Donald Trump's candidacy are ramping up their efforts to defeat him ahead of the February 20 primary in South Carolina.
On Friday, two of those groups announced that they would launch major television-commercial campaigns against Trump, the Republican presidential front-runner.
Right to Rise USA, the big-money super PAC backing former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R), released an ad titled "Iceberg."
In the ad, an ice sculpture of Trump is depicted melting as a narrator castigated the real-estate mogul for deviating from the conservative cause. The narrator also suggested that Trump would lose a general election to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Mike Murphy, the GOP consultant who runs the pro-Bush super PAC, wrote on Twitter that the ad would start running nationally Friday on Fox News.
"Coming soon to SC and more places," he added.

President Barack Obama's former top military intelligence official said Hillary Clinton should pull out of the presidential race while the FBI investigate her use of a private email server for official government communication while secretary of state.
Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, the retired chief of the Defense Intelligence Agency, made the call in an interview with Jake Tapper on "The Lead."
"If it were me, I would have been out the door and probably in jail," said Flynn, who decried what he said was a "lack of accountability, frankly, in a person who should have been much more responsible in her actions as the secretary of state of the United States of America."
Clinton campaign spokesman Brian Fallon later told Tapper the general's suggestion was "just silly" and pointed to similar FBI probes of former Secretary of State Colin Powell and of aides to former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
"In both of those two cases, you now have the same agency looking at their emails, personal emails, and saying that there is information that in retrospect they think should be treated as classified," Fallon said. "The exact same situation playing out in the two previous secretaries before Secretary Clinton. So I think that tells you everything about the relative seriousness of this."
When pressed by CNN, Flynn said, "I don't have any personal evidence" that Clinton or one of her staffers took material off a classified server and put it on an unclassified server.
Since leaving office, Flynn has been fiercely critical of the Obama administration's approach to the Middle East and has told Tapper that the President's advisors are more concerned with appearances than hard realities. Flynn said Friday that he has advised Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on national security issues.
The FBI confirmed in a February 2 letter to U.S. District Court Judge Emmet Sullivan that it is officially investigating Clinton's use of a private server at her home in Chappaqua, New York, to conduct business while she was secretary of state.

‘Damn It Feels Good to be a Clinton:’ New Cruz Ad Rips Hillary With Glorious Office Space Spoof
Ted Cruz gave MSNBC a first look at a new anti-Hillary Clinton ad this morning, targeting the former Secretary of State again for using a private server to receive emails during her tenure. Despite a Cruz campaign blunder yesterday that resulted in the removal of an ad for featuring a soft-core porn actress in an attack on Marco Rubio, the new Cruz ad portrays an impressive homage to the cult-classic film Office Space. One of the film’s most iconic moments (which you can watch below courtesy of 20th Century Fox) is when the three protagonists take a malfunctioning printer out to a field and destroy it in a fashion that can only be described as gloriously-badass.
In Cruz’s ad, a pantsuit-wearing Clinton appears with two aids as they trash an email server while the music spits rhymes about how she’ll never be held accountable for her actions.

LIVE: Hillary Clinton Benghazi Hearing
Democratic presidential frontrunner and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is appearing today before the House Select Committee investigating the 2012 Benghazi attack in Libya that killed U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans.
Washington observers and political junkies have been fixated on this testimony -- which began at 10 a.m. -- for months, waiting in anticipation to see what impact it may have on her campaign.
The pressure is on Republican Committee Chairman Rep. Trey Gowdy to produce results or information that differs from Clinton's full day of Congressional testimony on the attack nearly 3 years ago.
The hearing began with heated opening statements from Gowdy and the ranking Democrat, Rep. Elijah Cummings. Gowdy said that previous investigations into the Benghazi attack were “not thorough” and blamed Democrats on the Benghazi Committee for not taking the current investigation seriously. Cummings fired back in his opening statement, saying the committee is has been attempting to derail Clinton’s presidential campaign.
hillary clinton testimony at the benghazi committee hearing. Hillary Clinton and Trey Gowdy got into a pretty testy exchange over the State Department’s Benghazi Accountability Review Board. Gowdy pressed Clinton on its credibility and brought up how Admiral Mike Mullen––one of the board’s co-chairs––reached out to Clinton’s chief of staff to say one State Department official shouldn’t testify. Clinton objected to his line of questioning and said she didn’t like the impugning of Mullen’s character, remarking how his work is “held in such low regard by some members of this committee.” When Gowdy continued to press Clinton on the credibility of the ARB, she said, “I can’t help it, Mr. Chairman, that you all don’t like the findings of the Accountability Review Board.” Hillary Clinton avoided major damage to her presidential campaign during a nearly 11-hour congressional hearing Thursday dominated by Republican criticism of her response to the Benghazi attacks. Bitter political undercurrents festered all day during a contentious showdown that turned into a political endurance test. After a day-long grilling on the details of the attack and how Clinton handled it, the former secretary of state was forced to defend her use of a private email account while in office from a flurry of late evening attacks by GOP lawmakers.
She also came under testy cross-examination over the extent to which she has taken responsibility for the deaths of the Americans in the September 11, 2012, attacks and her contact with U.S. Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens, one of the victims, after sending him to the North African country.
The performance, coming one day after Vice President Joe Biden's decision not to seek the presidency and a week after a strong showing at the Democratic debate, could solidify Clinton's standing as the prohibitive favorite to win her party's presidential nomination.
While the hearing did not appear to include any major new revelations on what happened In Benghazi or Washington on the night of the attack, it did offer an opportunity for Republicans to probe what they say are still unanswered questions about the tragedy.
And so deep is the partisan divide over the attack that the exhaustive hearing is unlikely to have changed many minds. Republicans are sure to still view Clinton as resistant to scrutiny and to blame her for security lapses in Benghazi. Democrats are sure to continue to see the hearing as a witch hunt designed to wound the Democratic front-runner's 2016 campaign.
One Republican, Rep. Peter Roskam of Illinois, grew increasingly frustrated about Clinton's refusal to provide any new answers on the attack.
"I have heard one dismissive thing after another. What did you do? What did you own?" Roskam asked, his patience fraying over Clinton's repeated statements that though she accepted responsibility for what happened in Benghazi, decisions about security arrangements were left to U.S. envoys on the ground and security professionals in the State Department.
Roskam ripped a piece of paper in two in a theatrical gesture meant to support his claim that requests for security from Stevens were denied.

Now she’s running for President because everyday Americans need a champion and she want to be that champion.
