Derek Davis
Derek Davis (26 April 1948 – 13 May 2015) was an Irish broadcaster. On television, he co-hosted Live at 3, presented Davis at Large and Out of the Blue and won Celebrity Bainisteoir.
Early life
Davis was born in Bangor County Down to a Protestant father and a Roman Catholic mother (a native of Bray, County Wicklow). He attended St. MacNissis College, a Catholic boarding school in County Antrim and described his upbringing as ecumenical. During his childhood he acquired a love of boats which later provided the inspiration for the TV series Out of the Blue.
Television
Davis started as a news reporter with the American network ABC and BBC Northern Ireland before spending 11 years in the newsroom in RTÉ. In the early 1980s he became a newsreader for The Six-o-clock News and began to become well-known due to his sometimes off-the cuff comments on news stories.
Davis impersonated Big Tom on the RTÉ satirical programme Hall's Pictorial Weekly. He was offered a part in a show-band in Cork as a result of this. After a ballroom tour, he joined RTÉ proper in 1975, initially to work as a television news reporter, eventually becoming newsreader on the nine o'clock news. In the mid-1980s, Davis hosted his own talk show, Davis at Large. It was on this show, which was screened live, that he was attacked and hurled across the studio by a guest female body builder. In addition to this he had an interactive summer current affairs show, simply called Davis. In 1986, Davis began co-hosting (with Thelma Mansfield) RTÉ 1's afternoon programme Live at 3, a role he would fill for eleven years.

Derek Davis (artist)
Derek Maynard Davis (24 February 1926 – 3 September 2008) was an English artist, working in the media of painting and pottery. He was born in Wandsworth, South London, where he was educated at Emanuel School. He joined the King's Royal Rifle Corps in 1943, to fight in the World War II. After the war he entered the Central School of Arts and Crafts in London. Together with his friend Eric James Mellon he then started a pottery workshop in Hillesden, Buckinghamshire. Later he left to work on his own, and moved to Arundel, West Sussex. Here he developed his ceramics further, coming up with several innovative techniques. An eye operation in 1994 left him unable to look through the hole in the pottery kiln, and after this he started focusing on painting instead.
Davis's work is characteristic for breaking with the functionalistic style of Bernard Leach, which was prevalent in the post-war years. Davis was self-taught within the field of pottery, and his method has been described as "working as much by instinct as plan". His pottery was featured at several separate exhibitions, and he had commissions from the Barbican Centre and the British embassies in Brasilia, Rome, Warsaw, and Riyadh. Davis met his wife Ruth Lambert in Ventnor on the Isle of Wight, where he spent some time in a sanatorium after college, suffering from tuberculosis. Ruth, a patient at the same institution, was also a painter. The couple married in 1953, and they had one son. Davis died in Chichester 4 September 2008.

New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Apocalypse Records PR) "The revolution is moving across the nation! Rise up! Re-volt! Man your stations! The revolution is moving across the nation! Re - Volt!"
A bull horn blasts its opening salvo from the title track of the debut solo release by Northern California's Derek Davis. Derek is the former singer/songwriter for Arista recording artists Babylon A.D., the first rock/metal band personally signed by legendary music mogul Clive Davis.
The eleven tracks of mind-blowing hard rock retro-metal capture an angst-ridden, sometimes dark, yet poetic true-to-life world with which most of us can relate. Did someone say perfect timing? But this is not your typical metal rock formula release.
From the opening track's revolution call of "Re-Volt" to the second song, "Bad Man Cometh," an up-tempo motion picture-style soundtrack with (surprise!) a rapid-fire rap delivered by guest artist, Monte Carlo, and through the third track, a bombastic, guitar-driven slow grinder called "Tied Down and Hammered" ("You kick me with your steel toed boot, You hit me with your iron fist"), you just might think you have the man and the sound all figured out. Then out of the blue comes "Troubadour," a beautifully-crafted acoustic song with a surreal story of new found love and hope, featuring Spanish-style guitar playing and glass-like strings that add depth and emotion to the song's moving lyrical content. The battle cry of "American Jihad" follows with a funkafied bass line driven by a menacing vocal attack, with Derek delivering every line with bullet-like precision. 'Hollywood Heartbreak" is a solid up-tempo rocker with a "Born to Run"-like theme. On track seven, Derek really breaks out the production with "The Promise," a heartbreaking, paradoxical, deathbed love story. The music is spacious and mystical, with clean roto-verb-style guitar sounds, a strange rhythmic drum beat, and a haunting vocal. It is also the first single from the record (check out the video here: https://youtu.be/-8KC-QMUaVA). Up next is "Judas Kiss," with Derek cranking out a brutal tale of betrayal and revenge. This is followed by the dark and vampirish "I love U 2 Death," "Love Star," a temptation-driven, sexy groover, and the final track, "Desperate," a big, luscious ballad. The song features a wall of sound and orchestration, with the arrangement and lyrical content perfectly weaving a sad tale of loneliness and isolation ("Everybody's desperate just like you"). This song has massive hit appeal written all over it.
Derek Davis has brought together an eclectic mix of songs. "It's not the Beatles' White album, but I feel I have had the freedom of expression to write and produce music the way I have always wanted--something you usually can't do with the restrictions of a major label," says Derek.
Derek has painted a moving picture landscape, both lyrically and musically. He has created a truly modern, anthemic rock album, with a wild and twisted rollercoaster ride of emotions for listeners. The vocals, melodies, musicianship and production are excellent, and the execution and arrangements all fit together nicely. Vocally, Derek's style is high-octane grit, full of electric energy--different enough to push beyond the modern-day Daughtry clones and provide the material with exactly the right combination of power and attitude.

A bull horn blasts its opening salvo from the title track of the debut solo release by Northern California's Derek Davis. Derek is the former singer/songwriter for Arista recording artists Babylon A.D., the first rock/metal band personally signed by legendary music mogul Clive Davis.
The eleven tracks of mind-blowing hard rock retro-metal capture an angst-ridden, sometimes dark, yet poetic true-to-life world with which most of us can relate. Did someone say perfect timing? But this is not your typical metal rock formula release.
From the opening track's revolution call of "Re-Volt" to the second song, "Bad Man Cometh," an up-tempo motion picture-style soundtrack with (surprise!) a rapid-fire rap delivered by guest artist, Monte Carlo, and through the third track, a bombastic, guitar-driven slow grinder called "Tied Down and Hammered" ("You kick me with your steel toed boot, You hit me with your iron fist"), you just might think you have the man and the sound all figured out. Then out of the blue comes "Troubadour," a beautifully-crafted acoustic song with a surreal story of new found love and hope, featuring Spanish-style guitar playing and glass-like strings that add depth and emotion to the song's moving lyrical content. The battle cry of "American Jihad" follows with a funkafied bass line driven by a menacing vocal attack, with Derek delivering every line with bullet-like precision. 'Hollywood Heartbreak" is a solid up-tempo rocker with a "Born to Run"-like theme. On track seven, Derek really breaks out the production with "The Promise," a heartbreaking, paradoxical, deathbed love story. The music is spacious and mystical, with clean roto-verb-style guitar sounds, a strange rhythmic drum beat, and a haunting vocal. It is also the first single from the record (check out the video here: https://youtu.be/-8KC-QMUaVA). Up next is "Judas Kiss," with Derek cranking out a brutal tale of betrayal and revenge. This is followed by the dark and vampirish "I love U 2 Death," "Love Star," a temptation-driven, sexy groover, and the final track, "Desperate," a big, luscious ballad. The song features a wall of sound and orchestration, with the arrangement and lyrical content perfectly weaving a sad tale of loneliness and isolation ("Everybody's desperate just like you"). This song has massive hit appeal written all over it.
Derek Davis has brought together an eclectic mix of songs. "It's not the Beatles' White album, but I feel I have had the freedom of expression to write and produce music the way I have always wanted--something you usually can't do with the restrictions of a major label," says Derek.
Derek has painted a moving picture landscape, both lyrically and musically. He has created a truly modern, anthemic rock album, with a wild and twisted rollercoaster ride of emotions for listeners. The vocals, melodies, musicianship and production are excellent, and the execution and arrangements all fit together nicely. Vocally, Derek's style is high-octane grit, full of electric energy--different enough to push beyond the modern-day Daughtry clones and provide the material with exactly the right combination of power and attitude.

Derek Davis
Derek Davis (26 April 1948 – 13 May 2015) was an Irish broadcaster. On television, he co-hosted Live at 3, presented Davis at Large and Out of the Blue and won Celebrity Bainisteoir.
Early life
Davis was born in Bangor County Down to a Protestant father and a Roman Catholic mother (a native of Bray, County Wicklow). He attended St. MacNissis College, a Catholic boarding school in County Antrim and described his upbringing as ecumenical. During his childhood he acquired a love of boats which later provided the inspiration for the TV series Out of the Blue.
Television
Davis started as a news reporter with the American network ABC and BBC Northern Ireland before spending 11 years in the newsroom in RTÉ. In the early 1980s he became a newsreader for The Six-o-clock News and began to become well-known due to his sometimes off-the cuff comments on news stories.
Davis impersonated Big Tom on the RTÉ satirical programme Hall's Pictorial Weekly. He was offered a part in a show-band in Cork as a result of this. After a ballroom tour, he joined RTÉ proper in 1975, initially to work as a television news reporter, eventually becoming newsreader on the nine o'clock news. In the mid-1980s, Davis hosted his own talk show, Davis at Large. It was on this show, which was screened live, that he was attacked and hurled across the studio by a guest female body builder. In addition to this he had an interactive summer current affairs show, simply called Davis. In 1986, Davis began co-hosting (with Thelma Mansfield) RTÉ 1's afternoon programme Live at 3, a role he would fill for eleven years.
