La the Darkman was a Wu-Tang Clan affiliated American rapper. He is also a close associate of the Gangsta Grillz series of mixtapes (With DJ Drama) in which he takes on executive duties as well. He is also the older brother of rapper Willie the Kid. He is Co-CEO of The Aphilliates Music group. Spending most of his High School years in the Southeast side of Grand Rapids, Michigan, La the Darkman experienced a lot of hardship and poverty. In 1997, Wu-Tang Clan signed him at the age of 19, and his debut album Heist of the Century in 1998. The album was a success in the underground hip-hop scene at the time. Between 2008 and 2009 La The Darkman released two mixtapes that he recorded with DJ Drama. It was released on his own label.

Dedication 3 is a mixtape by DJ Drama and Lil Wayne. It is the sequel to its predecessors, Dedication and the highly successful Dedication 2, becoming the third in Lil Wayne's "Gangsta Grillz" trilogy. Lil Wayne also told MTV, "Tha Carter IV is nice but you need to be looking for Dedication 3". Although Dedication 3 was a major success, it failed to match that of its predecessors but did gain some attention. The mixtape has sold over 70,000 copies in the United States, despite being available for free download. Besides the interludes, a majority of the mixtape has Wayne using auto-tune and rapping alongside artists signed to his label, Young Money Entertainment.
