US officials have confirmed that they will sit down for talks with the Taliban in Qatar, within days.   The group has opened an office here in Doha and says it\'s ready to discuss peace. The US government is warning that the negotiations will be slow and difficult - with no guarantee of success. Al Jazeera\'s Patty Culhane reports from Washington.

India News: The ChardhamYatra to Uttarakhand\'sBadrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotriand Yamnotri shrines in Garhwal division has come to a halt due to heavy landslides and landslips triggered by incessant rainfall in the last 24 hours.

Landslides were reported from over 12 places on the Rishikesh-Gangotri, the Dehradun-Yamnotri, the Rishikesh-Badrinath and the Rishikesh-Kedarnath National Highway. Yatra had begun on June 13.
Around 60 people have been reported to be dead by now.

Voilà un an jour pour jour que le fondateur de WikiLeaks est réfugié à l\'ambassade d\'Equateur à Londres. Il est poursuivi par la Suède dans une affaire d\'agressions sexuelles. Mais même si la Suède abandonnait ses poursuites, Assange affirme qu\'il ne quitterait pas l\'ambassade. En fait, l\'Australien, âgé de 41 ans, craint surtout une extradition vers les Etats-Unis, après toutes les révélations qu\'il a faites via WikiLeaks.
Alors, sur les conseils de ses avocats, il reste dans ce bâtiment du centre de Londres, sans mettre le pied dehors. Et il sait que cette situation peut durer, des mois, peut-être des années. Il l\'a dit dans une interview accordée à quelques agences de presse.
Assange a aussi expliqué qu\'il loge dans une petite chambre, qu\'il fait de la course à pied sur un tapis roulant, et qu\'il travaille à l\'écriture de chansons avec un groupe de musique portoricain.

The United States will engage in direct peace negotiations with the Taliban in Qatar next week, aimed at achieving peace in Afghanistan, senior White House officials have said.
