TV Ratings: TNT's 'The Hero' Opens to 1.5 Million Viewers

The cable network's latest unscripted foray bows just shy of last summer's effort, "The Great Escape."

The Hero is off and running on TNT. And in its premiere episode, the new reality competition averaged just north of 1.5 million viewers.

Starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, The Hero is the latest in a big unscripted push across the Turner networks -- and the second series to come from Ben Silverman's Electus. (The shingle also produces TBS' recently renewed King of the Nerds.)

TV REVIEW: The Hero

The Hero, also produced by 5x5 Media, averaged 855,000 adults 18-49. A slightly softer 832,000 adults 25-54 tuned in, giving the series a projected median age of 39 -- the youngest ever for a network launch. Across the night, The Hero netted 2.1 million total viewers with the addition of the 10 p.m. encore., 1.1 million of them in both of the targeted demos.

The Hero did fall short of TNT's stab at reality from last summer. The Great Escape, canceled after just one season, averaged 1.6 million viewers in its series premiere -- though it did have a slightly more auspicious Sunday evening time slot.
