Fatso is a 1980 American comedy film written and directed by Anne Bancroft and starring Dom DeLuise, Ron Carey and Candice Azzara.
As the DiNapoli siblings -- Antoinette (Bancroft), Dominic (DeLuise), and Frank Jr. (Carey) - are growing up, whenever young Dom became upset by something, the one thing his mother did to comfort him was to feed him. This included giving him a cannoli after being urinated on by his baby brother as he's being changed. Because of this, Dom grew up with a love of food, a trait shared by his equally obese cousin, Salvatore (Sal).
When Sal suddenly dies at age 39, the family grieves. This prompts Antoinette to urge Dom to visit a diet doctor to avoid his cousin's unhealthy eating habits and not drive himself into an early grave as well. Dom agrees to do so once he recognizes signs that obesity is ruining his health. Dom is heartbroken when given his new diet plan, seeing the long list of things he can no longer eat. When the diet fails, Dom's eating habits drive his sister crazy, so she enlists him in the "Chubby Checkers" support group.
Meanwhile, Dom meets Lydia (Azzarra), who owns the town antique shop, and finds they have a lot in common. But being self-conscious about his weight, he fears rejection, and can't bring himself to ask her out.
Now further depressed, Dom seeks comfort from his Chubby Checkers -- Sonny and Oscar (Richard Karron and Paul Zegler) -- who turn out to be of little help, as their reminiscing about favorite desserts and dishes drives them to having a pig-out party in the kitchen. To help their brother, Antoinette and Frankie bring together Dom and Lydia. While dating, Dom doesn't realize that he has been eating less and less, and is shocked to discover at how loosely his clothes fit in a matter of weeks.
The film critic Peter Wu described the film as "A very humorous and yet serious movie about obesity," going on to write: "Maybe being overweight isn't the best thing for a person's health, but being one's self and being happy is all that really matters in life ... With a delightful blend of New York Italian culture and the human problem of overeating, Fatso makes for an entertaining movie experience. Loaded with some of the funniest comedy gags I have ever seen, Fatso is a very humorous and yet serious movie about a very touchy subject, Dom DeLuise!"
This film was also reviewed in the psychiatric monograph "The Eating Disorders", which concluded that the film "... veers between comedy and pathos as a man discovers ... fat is the ... only sin in America." They approvingly note that, "The motivation for overeating and binge dieting are lampooned ... [and] medical consequences ... are elaborated in ... comedic fashion."
The film marked a turning point in the lives of actors Richard Karon and Paul Zegler who played DeLuise's obese "Chubby Checker" support group members. Both actors lost large amounts of weight in the years subsequent to the making of the film.
This film is a must see for anyone who loves very funny movies and /or has a weight problem!

Can you figure out what the Italian is that they're speaking? it probably has something to do with DeLuise's character taking a car. It's possibly an Americanized Italian dialect.
If we can find the answer, it could be mentioned on the radio show "A Way with Words" and will answer a question a woman has long wondered about.

Plot

As the DiNapoli siblings -- Antoinette (Bancroft), Dominic (DeLuise), and Frank Jr. (Carey) - are growing up, whenever young Dom became upset by something, the one thing his mother did to comfort him was to feed him. This included giving him a cannoli after being urinated on by his baby brother as he's being changed. Because of this, Dom grew up with a love of food, a trait shared by his equally obese cousin, Salvatore (Sal).
When Sal suddenly dies at age 39, the family grieves. This prompts Antoinette to urge Dom to visit a diet doctor to avoid his cousin's unhealthy eating habits and not drive himself into an early grave as well. Dom agrees to do so once he recognizes signs that obesity is ruining his health. Dom is heartbroken when given his new diet plan, seeing the long list of things he can no longer eat. When the diet fails, Dom's eating habits drive his sister crazy, so she enlists him in the "Chubby Checkers" support group.
Meanwhile, Dom meets Lydia (Azzarra), who owns the town antique shop, and finds they have a lot in common. But being self-conscious about his weight, he fears rejection, and can't bring himself to ask her out.
Now further depressed, Dom seeks comfort from his Chubby Checkers -- Sonny and Oscar (Richard Karron and Paul Zegler) -- who turn out to be of little help, as their reminiscing about favorite desserts and dishes drives them to having a pig-out party in the kitchen. To help their brother, Antoinette and Frankie bring together Dom and Lydia. While dating, Dom doesn't realize that he has been eating less and less, and is shocked to discover at how loosely his clothes fit in a matter of weeks.
The film critic Peter Wu described the film as "A very humorous and yet serious movie about obesity," going on to write: "Maybe being overweight isn't the best thing for a person's health, but being one's self and being happy is all that really matters in life ... With a delightful blend of New York Italian culture and the human problem of overeating, Fatso makes for an entertaining movie experience. Loaded with some of the funniest comedy gags I have ever seen, Fatso is a very humorous and yet serious movie about a very touchy subject, Dom DeLuise!"
This film was also reviewed in the psychiatric monograph "The Eating Disorders", which concluded that the film "... veers between comedy and pathos as a man discovers ... fat is the ... only sin in America." As the DiNapoli siblings -- Antoinette (Bancroft), Dominic (DeLuise), and Frank Jr. (Carey) - are growing up, whenever young Dom became upset by something, the one thing his mother did to comfort him was to feed him. This included giving him a cannoli after being urinated on by his baby brother as he's being changed. Because of this, Dom grew up with a love of food, a trait shared by his equally obese cousin, Salvatore (Sal).
When Sal suddenly dies at age 39, the family grieves. This prompts Antoinette to urge Dom to visit a diet doctor to avoid his cousin's unhealthy eating habits and not drive himself into an early grave as well. Dom agrees to do so once he recognizes signs that obesity is ruining his health. Dom is heartbroken when given his new diet plan, seeing the long list of things he can no longer eat. When the diet fails, Dom's eating habits drive his sister crazy, so she enlists him in the "Chubby Checkers" support group.
Meanwhile, Dom meets Lydia (Azzarra), who owns the town antique shop, and finds they have a lot in common. But being self-conscious about his weight, he fears rejection, and can't bring himself to ask her out.
Now further depressed, Dom seeks comfort from his Chubby Checkers -- Sonny and Oscar (Richard Karron and Paul Zegler) -- who turn out to be of little help, as their reminiscing about favorite desserts and dishes drives them to having a pig-out party in the kitchen. To help their brother, Antoinette and Frankie bring together Dom and Lydia. While dating, Dom doesn't realize that he has been eating less and less, and is shocked to discover at how loosely his clothes fit in a matter of weeks.
The film critic Peter Wu described the film as "A very humorous and yet serious movie about obesity," going on to write: "Maybe being overweight isn't the best thing for a person's health, but being one's self and being happy is all that really matters in life ... With a delightful blend of New York Italian culture and the human problem of overeating, Fatso makes for an entertaining movie experience. Loaded with some of the funniest comedy gags I have ever seen, Fatso is a very humorous and yet serious movie about a very touchy subject, Dom DeLuise!"
This film was also reviewed in the psychiatric monograph "The Eating Disorders", which concluded that the film "... veers between comedy and pathos as a man discovers ... fat is the ... only sin in America." They approvingly note that, "The motivation for overeating and binge dieting are lampooned ... [and] medical consequences ... are elaborated in ... comedic fashion."

Intensive scare: Dr Harvey was helping Stretch to bring flowers to Miss Banshee. Stretch wondered if it was such a good idea. Like Would Miss B go out with him? James said to remember what they talked about. Stretch was a caring individual with the ability to listen to her needs without inflicting his selfish male attitudes and smothering her uniqueness as a woman. Stretch thought Miss Banshee didn't like his nose and said it was comically huge. He didn't scare a cow as he went through her. When he was hidding in the attic Stinkie said Stretch's nose wasn't that big compared to mount Rushmore. Stinkie and Fatso tried cheering Stretch up by abusing Casper. Stretch had a little therapy session and Dr Harvey gave him an idea, so he tries to get a nose job. James has some chocolate afterwards. I like the jokes like asking how long Stretch's nose had been out of work. Stretch got a sound check. A trumpet was played and getting his nose hit with a drumstick made Stretch sound alright. He even got an x-ray. But as you may know ghosts don't have bones so they can't actually be x-rayed. He seemed to be a health hunk of ecto. Just the kind for the lady ghost. She scared him by trying to kiss him. In the next room Stretch gave a stool sample. Casper told Miss B what Stretch was doing. But Miss Banshee was talking about Jimmy Juranty when she said his nose wasn't scary and gave ghosts everywhere a bad name. Stretch's nose was the only thing she could stand about him so they went to stop him. So if in real life you hear someone say something insulting about someone don't assume it's you they're talking about try to find out just who they are talking about. When a 5 pound 7 ounce salami sandwich was being made Stretch thought some tomato ketchup was blood. But you may all know that ghosts don't have blood. One door that Stretch thought might be the exit had someone fixing a rhinoceros horn. Maybe Dr Dolittle. That may have been the meaning of rhino plastering. It seemed Stretch got an F in Spanish but then the Doctor understood nose job. So Stretch had to pick his nose and by pick I mean choose. There was a Michel Jackson Chuchu bee, a pig snout big bop, or Tom Cruse newt. When Stretch saw the right nose he said it was a baby and asked it to be delivered to him and the doctor misunderstood. It was like Stretch needed a stork. He came out of the operating room with twins. How can stretch have babies? How can any ghosts have babies at all? There could have been some adoption. Sammy Spinney had something to say.
F-A-T-S-O: A lady thinks Fatso is the most adorable character on the show, so he gets a tribute in the tune of B-I-N-G-O. His brothers start with "We have a brother big and round and Fatso is his name-o" Then Stretch morphs into the letters singing "F-A-T-S-O" then Stinkie repeats pointing at the letters and they light up then they sing together then Fatso sings "and Fatso is my name-o". Then Casper sings "I have an uncle who loves to eat and Fatso is his name-o" Then Stretch hammers Fatso's head to replace the F, Stinkie jumps on Fatso, and then they sandwich his head. Then Dr Harvey sings "I have a patient in denial and Fatso is his name-o" Then Stretch rolls a roller forward to replace the F and backward for A, Stinkie repeats, and Then Fatso tries to unflatten himself. What did Kat say someone had to point at her head to make her sing? It happened and she sang "I know a bleach bag big and round and he is truly lame-o" and his head gets hammered to replace F-A-T. Then Miss B sings "I have a boyfriend big and round AND FATSO IS HIS NAME-O" and anvils fall on him to replace F-A-T-S. Then he speaks to the lady to make it stop and his brothers, Casper, James, Kat, and Miss B all sing "To stop this song before we're through would really be a shame-o" and use the dynamite pumps instead of singing the letters and the lady with Fatso sings "And Fatso is his name-o". I think the most adorable male character is Casper. Fatso is my favourite male. I think the most adorable character overall is Irene. My favourite character overall is Poil.
Stench: Stinkie gets hired to make some stench. I'm sure we're all going to miss Joe Alaskey.
At the end Fatso sings a solo for F-A-T-S-O. "There is a ghost, and he is great, and Fatso is my name-o, F-A-T-S-O, F-A-T-S-O, F-A-T-S-O and Fatso is my name-o."
If I ever have to delete this it can be found at watchcartoon and 9cartoon.
I can find all Casper movies and all that was older. But of the 90s cartoon I can't find episodes 11, 13-17, 26, 35, 36(a and c), 37, 38, 39(a and b), 40, 41(a and c), 42, 43, 44, 45a, or 46-52 in English. I think English episodes 12, 18, 19, 20b, 21-25, 33, 34, and 36b could all do with some quality improvement. Of scare school every episode of the first 2 seasons can be found using other video sites. But is there more?

It seemed Stretch got an F in Spanish but then the Doctor understood nose job. So Stretch had to pick his nose and by pick I mean choose. There was a Michel Jackson Chuchu bee, a pig snout big bop, or Tom Cruse newt. When Stretch saw the right nose he said it was a baby and asked it to be delivered to him and the doctor misunderstood. It was like Stretch needed a stork. He came out of the operating room with twins. How can stretch have babies? How can any ghosts have babies at all? There could have been some adoption. Sammy Spinney had something to say.
F-A-T-S-O: A lady thinks Fatso is the most adorable character on the show, so he gets a tribute in the tune of B-I-N-G-O. His brothers start with "We have a brother big and round and Fatso is his name-o" Then Stretch morphs into the letters singing "F-A-T-S-O" then Stinkie repeats pointing at the letters and they light up then they sing together then Fatso sings "and Fatso is my name-o". Then Casper sings "I have an uncle who loves to eat and Fatso is his name-o" Then Stretch hammers Fatso's head to replace the F, Stinkie jumps on Fatso, and then they sandwich his head. Then Dr Harvey sings "I have a patient in denial and Fatso is his name-o" Then Stretch rolls a roller forward to replace the F and backward for A, Stinkie repeats, and Then Fatso tries to unflatten himself. What did Kat say someone had to point at her head to make her sing? It happened and she sang "I know a bleach bag big and round and he is truly lame-o" and his head gets hammered to replace F-A-T. Then Miss B sings "I have a boyfriend big and round AND FATSO IS HIS NAME-O" and anvils fall on him to replace F-A-T-S. Then he speaks to the lady to make it stop and his brothers, Casper, James, Kat, and Miss B all sing "To stop this song before we're through would really be a shame-o" and use the dynamite pumps instead of singing the letters and the lady with Fatso sings "And Fatso is his name-o". I think the most adorable male character is Casper. Fatso is my favourite male. I think the most adorable character overall is Irene. My favourite character overall is Poil.
Stench: Stinkie gets hired to make some stench. I'm sure we're all going to miss Joe Alaskey.
At the end Fatso sings a solo for F-A-T-S-O. "There is a ghost, and he is great, and Fatso is my name-o, F-A-T-S-O, F-A-T-S-O, F-A-T-S-O and Fatso is my name-o."
If I ever have to delete this it can be found at watchcartoon and 9cartoon.
I can find all Casper movies and all that was older. But of the 90s cartoon I can't find episodes 11, 13-17, 26, 35, 36(a and c), 37, 38, 39(a and b), 40, 41(a and c), 42, 43, 44, 45a, or 46-52 in English. I think English episodes 12, 18, 19, 20b, 21-25, 33, 34, and 36b could all do with some quality improvement. Of scare school every episode of the first 2 seasons can be found using other video sites. But is there more?
