Islands High Boys 63, Toombs County 55

Toombs County Lady Bulldogs won their first game of the season, the Toombs County
Boys basketball team lost their first game of 2014-15.
The Lady Dawgs scored the same amount of points, 27, in the fourth quarter that they scored in the first three quarters combined in a 54-46 victory over
Islands High School in a
Region 1 game played in a small gym in the Costal
Empire.
Meanwhile, the
Sharks outscored the Bulldogs 12-2 over the final 90 seconds to win 63-55.

In the boys game Jalen Mobley, who sank two fourth quarter 3-balls in a win at
Wheeler County six days earlier, came out and knocked down the first three shots he attempted. Two left wing
3-pointers and a right wing three. However, the Sharks were also shooting the long ball well and they led 17-11 after the first quarter.
Mobley added a 3-pointer in each of the next three quarters and finished with a career high 20 points. The game was tied 27-all at half and TCHS was on top 42-39 going to the fourth quarter.

point on the Sharks pressure defense forced TCHS into turnovers leading to the game-ending run.
Brandon Dillard scored eight points,
Andre Clark five,
D.R. Meadows and KeShawn
Morgan each had four and
Darius Scott two.
Justin Core hit three 3-pointers and scored 29 for
Islands.
Hugh Durham, the grandson of the former
Georgia Bulldog head basketball coach of the same name, shot the three lights out and scored 15. The only
Georgia coach to take the Bulldogs to the
Final Four (
1983) was sitting in the stands wearing a red shirt.
Durham also was the head coach at
Florida State and Jacksonville University. He is the only coach in history to take two teams to the Final Four for the first and only time. He coached a very tall Florida State squad in 1971-72 and those
Seminoles made it to the Final Four.
Florida State beat
North Carolina 79-75 in the semifinals and then lost to
UCLA 81-76. The Bruins were coached by
John Wooden and
Bill Walton was the Most
Outstanding player of the Final Four. Georgia lost in the semifinals to
North Carolina State 67-60 in the Pit in
Albuquerque, New Mexico. That
N.C. State team beat
Houston on the last second dunk by
Lorenzo Charles to give coach
Jim Valvano his only national title.
