Andrew A. "Andy" Heyward (born February 19, 1949) is the former Chairman and CEO of DIC Entertainment, an animation production company.^[1][2]

Heyward was born in New York City, New York, the son of Sylvia (née Block) and Louis M. "Deke" Heyward, who was vice president in charge of development at Barry & Enright Productions.^[3] Heyward created DiC Entertainment in 1982 after performing a management buyout of DiC Audiovisual, a French production company owned by Radio-Television Luxembourg.^[4]

Prior to launching DIC he first began his career as a writer and story editor for Hanna-Barbera. Years later he created Inspector Gadget and the following years has been working on many animated and live-action TV shows, specials and films.

He has also worked as a voice director for Rainbow Brite and DIC's first special Poochie, a creative consultant for the CINAR Animation special Madeline's Christmas and helped developed James Bond Jr. with his partner Robby London. He also made a guest appearance on The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! as Howard Stevens, a man who appraises paintings.

For over many years Heyward has become the Chairman and CEO of DIC with Robby London and Michael Maliani.

On June 20, 2008, it was announced that DIC would be acquired by Cookie Jar Group.^[5] On July 23, 2008, Cookie Jar completed the acquisition of DIC Entertainment,^[6] and DIC was then completely folded into Cookie Jar Entertainment.

Heyward now runs a new animation company called A Squared Entertainment, which he co-founded with his wife Amy Moynihan.

Andrew Heyward is a former President of CBS News, serving from January 1996 until early November 2005. Currently, he is a Senior Advisor to Marketspace LLC, Monitor Group's digital media practice, where he works with clients to create and strengthen original online content, make more effective use of broadband video, deepen engagement through online communities, and develop new business models for the digital era.^[1]

He is the son of Dick Heyward. He and his wife, Jody, have three children: David and Emily, both of whom work in New York City, and Sarah, a writer for HBO's "Girls".

Heyward's successor at CBS News was Sean McManus, head of CBS Sports.

Daniel Zajfman (Hebrew: דניאל זייפמן - born June 7, 1959) is an Israeli physicist whose main research interests are centered around the Physics of simple molecular ions. On December 1, 2006 he was elected as the tenth president of the Weizmann Institute.

Early life[link]

Daniel Zajfman was born in Brussels, Belgium. In 1979 he emigrated to Israel where he met his wife Joëlle Hayoun. In 1983 he graduated in Physics (B.Sc.), at the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa. He continued his studies at the Technion and in 1989 received his PhD, in atomic physics. He conducted his post-doctoral at the Argonne National Laboratory, Illinois, USA. (1989–1991)

Career[link]

In 1991 he returned to Israel and began his career as a senior Scientist at the Dept. of Particle Physics, (Weizmann Institute of Science). In 1997, he was appointed Associate Professor and was promoted to Full professor in 2003. Since 2001, he has been an external member of the Max Planck Institute of Nuclear Physics in Heidelberg, Germany, and in 2005, he was appointed as a Director at this Max Planck Institute.

Research and patents[link]

His research focuses on the reaction dynamics of small molecules and how they influence the composition of the interstellar medium. He recreates the conditions of outer space in the laboratory using special devices called ion 'traps' or 'storage rings'. In these devices, he is able to briefly store and measure the properties of small amounts of material, as little as a few hundred atoms or molecules-worth, under the extreme conditions of interstellar space (especially very low temperatures and low densities). Some of his research has focused on the puzzle of how complex molecules are formed in outer space.
