Dilip Kumar, born Muhammad Yusuf Khan on 11 December 1922, is an Indian actor and a former Member of Parliament. He is commonly known as "Tragedy King", and is described as "the ultimate method actor" by Satyajit Ray.

Starting his career with Jwar Bhata in 1944, Kumar's career has spanned five decades and over 60 films. He is widely considered to be one of the greatest actors in the history of Hindi cinema. Kumar was the first actor to receive a Filmfare Best Actor Award and holds the record for the most number of Filmfare Awards won for that category with Shahrukh Khan; eight wins. He starred in films of a variety of genres such as the romantic Andaz (1949), the swashbuckling Aan (1952), the dramatic Devdas (1955), the comical Azaad (1955), the historical Mughal-e-Azam (1960) and the social Ganga Jamuna (1961).

In 1976, Kumar took a five-year break from film performances. In 1981, he returned with a character role in the film Kranti and continued his career playing central character roles in films such as Shakti (1982), Karma (1986) and Saudagar (1991). His last film was Qila in 1998. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Bhushan in 1991 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994 for his contributions towards Indian cinema. Dilip Kumar has acted with actress Vyjayanthimala the most, where they both had acted seven films together including the former's home production Gunga Jumna resulting great on-screen chemistry and alleged affair between them.

Nalini Jaywant (18 February 1926 – 20 December 2010) was an Indian movie actress from Bollywood in the 1940s and 1950s.

Jaywant was born in Mumbai (then Bombay) in 1926. She is first cousin to actress Shobhna Samarth, the mother of actresses Nutan and Tanuja. Since 1983, she has been living mostly a reclusive life.

She was married to director Virendra Desai in the 1940s. Later, she married her second husband, actor Prabhu Dayal, with whom she acted in several movies.

Nalini Jaywant died on 20 December 2010, aged 84, at her bungalow of 60 years at Union Park, Chembur, Mumbai.

In her teens, appeared in Mehboob Khan's Bahen (1941), a film about a brother's obsessive love for his sister. The movie had strong shades of incest. She performed in a few more movies before filming Anokha Pyaar (1948). In 1950, she garnered fame when she became a top star with her performances opposite Ashok Kumar in Samadhi and Sangram. Samadhi was a patriotic drama concerning Subash Chandra Bose and the Indian National Army. Although the leading movie magazine of the day, Film India, called it "politically obsolete", it enjoyed success at the box office. Sangram was a crime drama in which Nalini played the heroine reforming the anti-hero. She and Ashok Kumar performed together in other films, such as Jalpari (1952), Kafila (1952), Naubahar (1952), Saloni (1952), Lakeeren (1954), Naaz (1954), Mr. X (1957), Sheroo (1957) and Toofan Mein Pyar Kahan (1963).

Lata Mangeshkar (born September 28, 1929) is a singer from India. She is one of the best-known and most respected playback singers in India. Mangeshkar's career started in 1942 and has spanned over six and a half decades. She has recorded songs for over a thousand Hindi films and has sung songs in over thirty-six regional Indian languages and foreign languages, though primarily in Hindi. She is the elder sister of singer Asha Bhosle, Hridayanath Mangeshkar, Usha Mangeshkar and Meena Mangeshkar. She is the second vocalist to have ever been awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour.

Mangeshkar was featured in the Guinness Book of World Records from 1974 to 1991 for having made the most recordings in the world. The claim was that she had recorded approximately 25,000 solo, duet, and chorus-backed songs in 20 Indian languages between 1948 to 1974. Over the years, while several sources have supported this claim, others have raised concerns over its veracity, claiming that this number was highly exaggerated and that Mangeshkar's younger sister, Asha Bhosle, had more song recordings than she had. In 2011 Guinness officially acknowledged Bhosle as the most recorded artist in music history.

Meena Kapoor was a playback singer in Hindi cinema, who sang mainly during the 1940s and 1950s, singing hits such as "Rasiya Re Man Basiya Re" from Pardesi (1957). She was a friend of the singer Geeta Dutt; the two had similar vocal styles.

She was married to the music composer Anil Biswas. Anil Biswas died in Delhi in May 2003. His sons, Amar Biswas and Utpal Biswas, better known as Amar-Uptal, are Bollywood music composers, and have composed music for hit films such as Shahenshah (1988) and Aaja Meri Jaan (1993).

One of Kapoor's most famous songs is "Aana meri jaan sunday ke sunday", a duet with Chitalkar and Shamshad Begum from the movie Shehnai.
