Charles "Buddy" Montgomery (January 30, 1930, Indianapolis, Indiana – May 14, 2009) was an American jazz vibraphonist and pianist. He was the younger brother of Wes and Monk Montgomery. He and brother Monk formed The Mastersounds in the late 1950s and produced ten recordings. When The Mastersounds disbanded, Monk and Buddy joined their brother Wes on a number of Montgomery Brothers recordings, which were arranged by Buddy. They toured together in 1968, and it was in the middle of that tour that Wes died. Buddy continued to compose, arrange, perform, produce, teach and record, producing nine recordings as a leader.
Buddy first played professionally in 1948; in 1949 he played with Big Joe Turner and soon afterwards with Slide Hampton. After a period in the Army, where he had his own quartet, he joined The Mastersounds as a vibraphonist with his brother Monk, pianist Richie Crabtree and drummer Benny Barth in 1957. He led the "Montgomery-Johnson Quintet" with saxophonist Alonzo "Pookie" Johnson from 1955 to 1957. His earliest sessions as a leader are from the late 1950s. He played briefly with Miles Davis in 1960. After Wes Montgomery’s death in 1968, Buddy became active as a jazz educator and advocate. He founded organizations in Milwaukee, where he lived from 1969 to 1982; and Oakland, California, where he lived for most of the 1980s, that offered jazz classes and presented free concerts.
Labour of Love is a reggae album by UB40, the band's fourth album and first covers album. It was originally released on 1 September 1983 and included the hits, "Red, Red Wine" (UK No. 1, US #1), "Cherry Oh Baby" (UK #12), "Many Rivers to Cross" (UK #16), and "Please Don't Make Me Cry" (UK #10).
The entire album consists of cover versions of songs originally released by the group's musical idols. The most notable track is the cover of Neil Diamond's "Red, Red Wine," which reached No. 1 in the United Kingdom upon its release. The song was re-released in the United States in 1988, where it also topped the chart. The album and 12" version included a toasted verse by Astro, later copied by Neil Diamond in his live performances.
The band would later continue the series and release three more cover albums, Labour of Love II, Labour of Love III and Labour of Love IV.
The album was accompanied by a video also entitled Labour of Love, consisting of various music videos for the songs and tied together with a storyline showing the band working in the dump yard and relationships with wives, families and girlfriends. The film was directed by Bernard Rose.
"Labour of Love" was a hit single by Scottish duo/brothers Greg and Pat Kane, better known as Hue and Cry. Included on the album Seduced and Abandoned, it was released as their second single in 1987 after their first hit "I Refuse" had failed to make the UK Top 75.
Showcasing a somewhat funky sound that was very different from their later ballad releases, this song remains their biggest hit to date, peaking at #6 on the UK Singles Chart and meriting inclusion on many hits compilations of the 1980s.
The song is written from the perspective of a disillusioned working-class Conservative voter of the mid-1980s who has worked hard to believe in Margaret Thatcher's story of a new proud, individualist Britain and who is now realising that there is less "gain" than "pain" in doing so.
The band had a lucky break with this single when they were asked to perform it on the BBC music show Top of the Pops at short notice. American band Los Lobos were booked to be on the show that week with their hit "La Bamba" but due to a mix-up with their visa applications, they were unable to perform. Hue and Cry were asked to fill the gap in the show and the exposure that this generated helped propel the single up the UK charts.

I can feel those thrills walking over
When you hold me tight
Now I feel the pain is taking over
When you say goodnight
Oh, my sweet sensation
Lord, what strange emotion!
You've got love and devotion
And I won't forget your touch
Now there's nothing left for me to say girl
But stay in your world
You've got so much soul deep inside girl
And love richer than gold
Oh, my sweet sensation
Lord, what strange emotion!
You've got love and devotion
And I won't forget your touch
Now there's nothing left for me to say girl
But stay in your world
You've got so much soul deep inside girl
And love richer than gold
Oh, my sweet sensation
Lord, what strange emotion!
You've got love and devotion
And I won't forget your touch
And I won't forget your touch
And I won't forget your touch
And I won't forget your touch
And I won't forget your touch
