The Wayside Inn Historic District is a historic district on Old Boston Post Road in Sudbury, Massachusetts. The district contains the famous Wayside Inn, a historic landmark inn that is reputedly the oldest operating inn in the country, opening as Howe's Tavern in 1716. The district features Greek Revival and Colonial architecture. The area was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
The inn's archive has documents from 1686 onward, including the official inn license granted to the first innkeeper, David Howe, in 1716. Lydia Howe, a granddaughter, was born in the Inn. The inn is also known as "Longfellow's Wayside Inn", a name given to the inn to capitalize on the popularity of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's "Tales of a Wayside Inn", a book of poems published in 1863. Longfellow visited the Wayside Inn in 1862, when it was called the "How Tavern". In his book "Tales of a Wayside Inn", Longfellow republished his poem "Paul Revere's Ride" as "The Landlord's Tale".
Wayside may refer to:
The Wayside is a historic house in Concord, Massachusetts. The earliest part of the home may date to 1717. Later, it successively became the home of the young Louisa May Alcott and her family, author Nathaniel Hawthorne and his family, and children's literature writer Margaret Sidney. It became the first site with literary associations acquired by the National Park Service and is now open to the public as part of Minute Man National Historical Park.
The first record of the Wayside property occurs in 1717. Minuteman Samuel Whitney was living in this house, which still retained most of its original appearance, on April 19, 1775, when British troops passed by on their way to the Battles of Lexington and Concord at Concord's Old North Bridge. During the years 1775 and 1776 the house was occupied by scientist John Winthrop during the nine months when Harvard College was moved to Concord.
Shortly after the failure of the Fruitlands experiment, educator and philosopher Amos Bronson Alcott and his family moved to Concord. Beginning in October 1844, the family first lived in the home of a friend named Edmund Hosmer. Alcott's wife Abby May had recently inherited about $2,000 and they intended to use the money to buy a home. Neighbor Ralph Waldo Emerson helped the family find the property to buy: a home most recently owned by a wheelwright named Horatio Cogswell. Emerson also loaned the family $500 for their purchase. Bronson took no part in the transaction being, as his wife explained, "dissatisfied with the whole property arrangement" and did not believe he could own any part of the Earth. No one seemed to know much about the history of the home, though Henry David Thoreau told the story that one of its previous owners believed he would never die and his ghost was rumored to haunt it. The Alcotts moved in on April 1, 1845; they named the home "Hillside".
The Tales series, known in Japan as the Tales of series (「テイルズ オブ」シリーズ, "Teiruzu Obu" Shirīzu), is a franchise of fantasy Japanese role-playing video games published by Bandai Namco Entertainment (formerly Namco), and developed by its subsidiary, Namco Tales Studio until 2011 and presently by Bandai Namco. First begun in 1995 with the development and release of Tales of Phantasia for the Super Famicom, the series currently spans sixteen main titles, multiple spin-off games and supplementary media in the form of manga series, anime series, and audio dramas.
While entries in the series generally stand independent of each other with different characters and stories, they are commonly linked by their gameplay, themes and high fantasy settings. The series is characterized by its art style, which draws from Japanese manga and anime, and its action-based fighting system called the "Linear Motion Battle System". Multiple people have become linked with the series, including character designers Kōsuke Fujishima and Mutsumi Inomata, producers Hideo Baba and Makoto Yoshizumi, and composer Motoi Sakuraba. The series was created by Yoshiharu Gotanda.
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (February 27, 1807 – March 24, 1882) was an American poet and educator whose works include "Paul Revere's Ride", The Song of Hiawatha, and Evangeline. He was also the first American to translate Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy, and was one of the five Fireside Poets.
Longfellow was born in Portland, Maine, which was then a part of Massachusetts. He studied at Bowdoin College. After spending time in Europe he became a professor at Bowdoin and, later, at Harvard College. His first major poetry collections were Voices of the Night (1839) and Ballads and Other Poems (1841). Longfellow retired from teaching in 1854, to focus on his writing, living the remainder of his life in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in a former Revolutionary War headquarters of George Washington. His first wife Mary Potter died in 1835, after a miscarriage. His second wife Frances Appleton died in 1861, after sustaining burns when her dress caught fire. After her death, Longfellow had difficulty writing poetry for a time and focused on translating works from foreign languages. He died in 1882.

Join me as I spend a night in the oldest inn in operation in the United States. Longfellow's Historic Wayside Inn. Legend says the location is haunted by the ghost of a woman named Jerusha Howe, most notably the infamous Room 9. After rejecting all sutiors, Jerusha fell for a visitor from England, who promised his love to her. When he left to go back to the British Isles, he solemnly promised to return and marry her, but that never came to be and it is unknown what happened to this man. Jerusha's heart was broken, and remained alone until her death at the young age of 44. If the stories are to be believed, she may be looking for the love and affection she denied herself in life, as she mainly seems to appear to men. In some cases, she’s believed to do more than appear. Some who spend the...

As a long-time movie buff and recently christened cast iron cook, I've had a great respect for famous horror and B-movie actor Vincent Price. Not only was he an unforgettable presence in film history (known from such classics as Otto Preminger's "Laura" and "The Invisible Man Returns," and especially such horror classics as "House of Wax," "The Fly" and "Return of The Fly," "The Raven," and many others. However, he was also known in social circles as a gourmet cook, and his labor of love was one of the great cookbooks of the 20th century"A Treasury of Great Recipes." This magnificent tome is a compilation of recipes from great restaurants around the world, "adapted for the American kitchen." It contains recipes from all around the world, certain to suit any palate; though it especially fa...

The Wayside Inn, located in Sudbury, MA, is one of the most quaint and colonial-like locations to have a classic New England wedding here in Massachusetts. The rain was pretty steady throughout the day, so unfortunately Elizabeth and Nicholas did not get to really enjoy the beautiful grounds that surround the Martha Mary Chapel where they exchanged their vows or the Inn itself. The rain however did not dampen the spirits of the young couple or their families. And now Elizabeth and Nicholas are added to the long list of special guests and events that make up the rich history of this country's oldest working inn. I WILL NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN. The room was filthy, the staff was not very courteous and I believe a housekeeper went through my things, but I couldn't prove it. My husband and I stayed on our first romantic weekend then again on our honeymoon. I can not believe how filthy Daytona Beach has become. Trash all over the beach, the homeless have tripled since our last stay. Even one of our favorite restaurants Bubba Gump's left us feeling so disappointed. The best part of our stay was being together......Thank you Sloppy Joe's for maintaining your quality and atmosphere while Daytona lets its beach fall to the wayside. This is my opinion based on what was advertised and what we experienced. Looking for a new vacation spot.

Don't turn your eyes away
And please say that you will stay
A while
I know things could go wrong
But what's the use if you don't try.

Oh please,
Just go on and take a look and then
