Odiorne Point State Park, situated along the coast in the town of Rye, is one of the most historic sites in all of New Hampshire. Named for the Odiorne family, who settled in the area in the mid-1660s, it existed as a coastal agricultural community, originally as part of the Massachusetts Bay Colony and then later as New Hampshire. However, Odiorne Point State Park is best known for its World War II history, as, in 1942, the United States government constructed Fort Dearborn as part of the Harbor Defenses of Portsmouth. Today, several remnants and artifacts exist on the land from this period, including the massive Battery Seaman and the much smaller Battery 204, as well as several gun mounts. By 1947, after the war had ended, the government had abandoned the fort, no longer needing it. In 1961, the land was ceded over to the state of New Hampshire, and by 1972, the park itself opened to the public.
Odiorne Point State Park, and especially the batteries of Fort Dearborn, was an absolute blast to explore! This video also marks my second exploration with Tom, the founder and owner of the great GoXplr brand (a resource I often use in my research). Together, Tom and I explore the gorgeous coastline of the park, and check out the many historic remnants, from the massive concrete walls of Battery Seaman, to the memorial dedicated to the early European settlers of 1623. This was my very first time exploring Odiorne Point State Park, and I absolutely loved it! For any urban explorer looking for a fun and public place to check out, the many abandoned batteries here are well worth a visit! Also, BIG shout out to Tom for accompanying me on this trip; definitely check out his work on YouTube, Instagram, and Tik Tok! If you guys liked this video, make sure to stay tuned for more exploration videos all across New England!
