Bali, Indonesia: Australians Mark Eighth Bombing Anniversary
It's been eight years since a deadly bombing in Bali, Indonesia left 202 people dead. Among the lives lost... 88 Australians. To mark the occasion, a service was held to remember that tragic day. A simple commemoration service was held on Tuesday in Bali to mark the eighth anniversary of a terrorist attack that killed 202 people, including 88 Australians. The Bali bombings were dubbed as Australia's September 11. About 80 Australians, survivors and family members attended the service at the Australian consulate and offered wreaths. [Made Mangku Pastika, Governor, Bali]: "It is not taking revenge, but we want to give respect to those who died and to give encouragement to all of us. We are working harder for the future to maintain peace and security." Another 240 were injured. [Katako Suzuki, Relative of Victim]: "I got angry still, angry and very sad." Recently the Australian government released an advisory to visitors planning to visit Bali for the commemoration, warning of the possibility of fresh terrorist attacks. The Indonesian government has organized joint counter terrorism exercises between the Indonesia Army's Special Forces and Australia's elite SAS... in an effort to show the world that security in Bali is up to international standards.

Defence and asylum plans on Indonesia-Australia agenda
It's just as well Australia's new Foreign Minister Bob Carr has had a lifelong passion for international relations, because he's had little time to work his way into his new job. Just 48 hours after he was sworn in, senator carr took part in the inaugural Australia-Indonesia '2plus2' two ministerial meeting, along with Defence Minister Stephen Smith and their Indonesian counterparts. The two sides played down concerns in Jakarta about plans to base US marines in northern Australia. Indonesia again hit out at a proposal from the Australian opposition to turn back boatloads of asylum seekers, calling it "impossible" and "inadvisable". Political Editor Catherine McGrath

Australian Slain in Papua, Indonesia
An Australian worker has been shot dead in Indonesias restive Papua province. The separatist Free Papua Movement (OPM) is the prime suspect for the attack. For more news and videos visit ☛ ntdtv.org Follow us on Twitter ☛ http Add us on Facebook ☛ on.fb.me Papua's simmering insurgency is on the boil after an Australian man was shot dead near near the huge Grasberg mine - the latest surge of violence in the restive Indonesian province. The 29-year-old victim, described as a technical expert at the vast Freeport gold and copper mine, was killed by a single shot as he rode in the back of a vehicle. Other passengers in the car were unharmed. Police believe the attack was carried out by the separatist Free Papua Movement (OPM). The Grasberg mine, which is run by the US-based Freeport McMoran Copper and Gold company, has long been a flashpoint of separatist tensions. In 2002, two American teachers and their Indonesian colleague were killed in an ambush near the Freeport facility Boasting the world's largest recoverable reserves of copper and and gold, Papuans are unhappy with their share of the wealth; there's also anger over the mine's environmental impact. Indonesia's anti-terrorism unit tightened security in the area after the shooting. An arson attack earlier this week destroyed a bus and a security post. In a further sign of escalating violence, a security guard employed by the mine was shot dead on Sunday.

HMAS ARARAT on Australia--Indonesia Coordinated Patrol (AUSINDO CORPAT) 2011
Royal Australian Navy Armidale-class patrol boat HMAS Ararat and a Royal Australian Air Force AP--3C Orion join forces with the Indonesian Navy ships KRI Sultan Nuku and KRI Sura to conduct the second Australia--Indonesia Coordinated Patrol (AUSINDO CORPAT) in the waters between Australia and Indonesia from 15--28 April 2011. Targeting the exploitation of natural resources, specifically illegal fishing, the coordinated patrol is building greater maritime security cooperation between the Australian and Indonesian defence forces along the two country's shared maritime boundaries. The coordinated patrol is being conducted under the umbrella of Operation Resolute, the Australian Defence Force contribution to the whole-of-government commitment to protect Australia's borders and offshore maritime interests. Operation Resolute began on 17 July 2006 and is commanded by Border Protection Command (BPC), which is responsible for operational coordination and control of both civil and military maritime enforcement activities within the area of operation.
