Gigwise Interview: The 1975 - 'we've written 7 songs for a second album'
This year has been a whirlwind success story for newcomers The 1975. Having made it onto the bill of pretty much every festival this summer, last weekend they performed at Kendal Calling straight off a plane having just returned from America. Matt Healy is clearly overwhelmed by the response the band have had over the past few months. Their schedule is hectic, "We haven't been home since January and we don't really go home until December", he tells Gigwise. "We're feeling it." "It has been this cacophony of noise and people and my idols, its been incredible." He comments further on the insane reaction received before their debut album is even out. "I'm trying to take it all in, I'm a bit confused at the moment, everything's a whirl." Healy also discusses their forthcoming album which is set for release in September. "It's our life in 16 songs. We've already written about 7 songs for the next album and we just released a 39 track debut deluxe album. We don't need to be releasing another album for a while but we're writing it for sure." www.gigwise.com www.twitter.com/gigwise www.facebook.com/gigwise- published: 31 Jul 2013

Gigwise Session: Years & Years perform 'Real' x 'Romeo'
New signing to Polydor, Years and Years have been making waves through a relentless touring schedule - supporting the likes of MO and Say Lou Lou. However, they are exactly the kind of act that never stays in that position long, effortlessly showing up the headliners through the soaring voice of singer Olly Alexander. Performing their breakthrough hit 'Real' mashed up with Basement Jaxx's 'Romeo' at Hackney's Oslo for Gigwise, Alexander explained how the songs fit together seamlessly. Combined through key, the lyrics also fixed together perfectly with 'Real', lamenting the rejections of an ex-lover. It's a cathartic anthem to thinking you aren't good enough for someone but growing to realise that they are out of your life now. Years & Years are going to be huge in 2014, and deservedly so. Find out why, right now Read more at http://www.gigwise.com/news/89651/live-session-years-and-years-perform-real-x-romeo#ZOBPxzbOvVVLLt7t.99 http://www.gigwise.com http://www.twitter.com/gigwise http://www.facebook.com/gigwise- published: 26 Mar 2014

Gigwise Session: Drowners perform 'Luv Hold Me Down'
Drowners boast an unusual mix of members with charismatic frontman Matthew Hitt hailing from Wales and the rest of band from New York. Hitt moved to the city several years ago and immediately found his home among the rich heritage of lo-fi guitar led music. After meeting Jack Ridley III, Erik Lee Snyder and Lakis Pavlou - Drowners was born. Having just released their debut album, the band have been hitting the road hard, teaming up previously with Cage the Elephant (who Hitt say "ruined" their livers and Foals. Tonight (5 March) will see them playing with Skaters and Dingwalls in Camden. Stopping off at Vibe Bar just off Brick Lane, the band played us a stripped back rendition of single 'Love Hold Me Down', a laidback ode to love. http://www.gigwise.com http://www.twitter.com/gigwise http://www.facebook.com/gigwise- published: 12 Mar 2014

Brody Dalle answers questions from her biggest fans - Gigwise Feature
Brody Dalle marked the UK release of her debut solo album, Diploid Love, with an intimate gig at East London's Rough Trade record store, a gig she described as like "having sex with the lights on". It must have been fun for the lucky 100 fans packed inside the Brick Lane venue. Ásgeir performs 'King and Cross' - Gigwise Session
'King and Cross' is the song that in many respects kickstarted Ásgeir's career, even if it was never intedned to appear on debut UK album In The Silence or it's Icelandic counterpart Dýrð í dauðaþögn. It was by sheer chance that a producer heard the song by accident and insisted that it be re-tooled for the album. Now the track has been performed for Gigwise at Brick Lane's Vibe Bar. Retrospectively, the song has become something much more special, ending up as the first song released under the Ásgeir name. From there it became the track that is largely attributed to his success and one that has shaped up to be in important chapter in his career. Guess you never know which track will be a success... Brody Dalle talks pregnancy and 'Meet The Foetus'
Brody Dalle has opened up about the inspiration behind her comeback single 'Meet the Foetus/Oh the Joy, stating that it is all about pregnant anxiety mirrored by global struggle and upheaval. 2014 is the year that Brody Dalle returned to the world of music and it's safe to say that she hasn't mellowed in the slightest. Sitting in a Shoreditch hotel room lackadaisically strumming a Fender guitar, she tells us all about the inspiration behind her comeback single 'Meet the Foetus/Oh the Joy' featuring Shirley Manson. "I think I kind of psychically knew I was pregnant," she said. "I'd just started writing again and I just liked the titles 'Meet the Foetus'. I thought it was really interesting and then I found out that I was pregnant." "It's just about having anxiety about bringing a kid into the world. With the current events there's been a lot of really intense crazy upheaval you know?" she continues. "Like the Arab Spring, just a lot of big changes going on in the world right now". http://www.gigwise.com http://www.twitter.com/giwgsie http://www.facebook.com/gigwise- published: 06 Mar 2014

Gigwise Interview: Anna Calvi - 'the new album is both ugly and beautiful'
When Anna Calvi first came to our attention back in 2010, she won hearts and minds the world over with her dramatic but triumphant sound, her piercing and arresting stage presence and her ever-enigmatic persona. As she returns with her sophomore album One Breath, we spoke to Calvi about her new record, what drives her, developing as an artist on her own terms, ignoring comparisons to others, the balance between beauty and ugliness and 'surrendering to fate'. www.gigwise.com www.twitter.com/gigwise www.facebook.com/gigwise- published: 15 Oct 2013

Gigwise Session: Catfish and the Bottlemen perform Kathleen
We all have that person in our lives - part kryptonite, part lover who you always end up ringing in the wee hours after you've had a few. Only problem is she's a bit of a "bitch", says frontman of Catish and the Bottlemen, Van. And that's what 'Kathleen' is about. It's not some wishy washy white guy with a guitar moaning that he got dumped, it's a wholesome slice of honest rock and roll. Watch the band performing it for Gigwise in the video above. We won't harp on and on about the return of guitar music until your eyelids begin to feel heavy - but we will point you in the direction of Catfish and the Bottlemen: a genuinely a hugely exciting band, focussed unflinchingly on quality music and honest lyrics. they are one of the most refreshing acts of 2014, and are rather nice chaps to boot. Kathleen is out now on iTunes with a vinyl release on 14 April. Gigwise Session: Lulu James performs 'Sweetest Thing'
In the second of an exclusive series of Gigwise sessions, soul singer Lulu James has performed new single 'Sweetest Thing'. Produced by Two Inch Punch the track pulls on the best aspects of James' vocal capabilities combining a simple jazz lick with a laidback groove and distorted vocals. Filmed at Red Bull Studios in London Bridge before her show at the Hammersmith Apollo, it shows that when it comes to perforing live, James is certainly a force to be reckoned with. We wait for the release of Lulu's album with baited breath... http://www.gigwise.com http://www.twitter.com/gigwise http://www.facebook.com/gigwise http://www.redbullstudios.com/- published: 11 Nov 2013
