Gloucestershire Cheese Rolling 2009
Gloucestershire Cheese Rolling 2009 video highlights from http://www.soglos.com - filmed on Monday 25 May 2009. Every year daring competitors throw themselves down a death-defyingly steep hill in Gloucestershire, England, in a bid to win a coveted Double Gloucester cheese, and this year's event was no different - with a number of competitors incurring injuries. Local cheese rolling legend Chris Anderson won 2 of the 5 races on the day, and can be seen in the video sporting his usual bright green top and flying past the camera.

Gloucestershire Cheese Rolling 2007
Cheese Rolling 2007 video highlights from http://www.soglos.com -. A collection of head-over-heels video clips from the 2007 Cooper's Hill Cheese Rolling and Wake. Every year daring competitors throw themselves down an almost vertical hill in Gloucester, UK, chasing an 8lb Double Gloucester Cheese. It can never really be caught as it reaches breakneck speeds but the first person to cross the line at the bottom of the hill wins the cheese. Thousands of spectators turn out for the event each year and, unsurprisingly, there are usually a good few injuries. Thankfully St John's Ambulances are on hand to whisk the casualties away to the local hospital. See http://www.soglos.com/sport-outdoor/27314/Cheese-Rolling-2007 for full details.

English Freeman Standing In Court - Gloucester Court 29th Jan 2010 - Part 1
The day started with myself and Captain Scarlet meeting up with Pigdogs partner Muchly jip and heading into the city centre to meet Rebel leader and the others.
Settling at costas for coffees, we went through our paperwork and just chatted about our strategy, Pigdog arrived and we made sure we were all set for the fun ahead!
The hearing was at 11.30am so just before 11am we all started to make our way to the Magistrates court which was a short walk from the coffee house.
On our way down we met up with some more freedom rebels (Greame, Pippa and Cossask) who said they had already been down to the courts and were asked if they were there for the demonstration! We were amazed!
We decided to go into the courts in small groups with myself going in with Rebel leader and Nutty Norm as the last group.
When we got in we were told that we would be seen by a council official before going into the court room.
At 11.30am we put in a NOUICOR and told them that they had 30mins to rebut, then we waited to find out when we were going to get to meet with the council official,
We were then surprised when 4 police men/women came in, stab vest and utility belts strapped, giving us all the eye and grinning.
Just before 11.30am we were called into the court room, we made our way through the show of force and, having no fear we thanked them for their presence.
On entering the court room RL asked if we would get a fair hearing under common law? He was assured that we would, we entered the court room and stood at the back saying we were quite comfortable and could see and hear fine.
RL asked if we could see the magistrates oath, they we're not happy with this and started grumbling that they did not want to go down this line of questioning, it was with this that the clerk of justices said that we should take his word for it! RL said that if we could just see the oaths we could proceed with the matter and settle it, at this the Magistrates got up and left! When asked if they were coming back the clerk said yes and scurried off, as a consequence the council representative was left in the court room with twelve freedom rebels!!!!
We asked why we hadn't received the courtesy of a meeting with the council official before we went into court .and the councillor, Mr Deveraux, turned round and said we did not have the meeting before the hearing because we have already heard of you! At this time he was looking rather flustered and alone and it was to his obvious relief the magistrates came back, the call to rise went out and we all stayed as we were.
The magistrates said “We are going to carry on with the proceedings”, trying to ignore us, but RL continued to ask for their oath of office. Once again the magistrates got up and left the court!!! We asked if the ship had been abandoned and again the clerk said “No” and scurried off.
Again they came back by which time we had asked one of the officers out side to come into the court room in case we needed to make an arrest (he he)!
The magistrates again tried ignore us saying “If Mr Gxxxxxxx would stop interrupting” ( we all quietly laughed as they had just called RL Mr Gxxxxxxx! I don't remember marrying him!) “we can proceed!” and then went straight to Mr Devreaux who proceeded to go through claims made against my legal fiction, he also stated that he had signed the summons! LIES!
Nutty norm informed the magistrates that payments had been made which flustered Mr Deveraux, at which point he said yes but not with cash.
The magistrates asked Mr Deveraux about this he replied that he had had a direct debit slip sent into him a4v'd, but he was saying that this is not a remittance slip (well what is it then?) and that he had replied by refusing this! Nutty norm pointed out that they should look up the bills of exchange act on this matter, and the magistrates turned to Mr deveraux saying that he should do this.
RL asked the magistrates if it would help if the “persons” involved would come forward, they said yes and RL presented them with the birth certificate of Rhapsodys legal fiction, they muttered amongst them selves and said they were leaving court again!
When they came back RL tried to establish the lawfulness of their position at which point the magistrate said that this matter was going nowhere and the courts were to be cleared.
Upon this loads of police officers came into the courts and proceeded to usher us out of the door, RL said there was no need for this as we were there peacefully and lawfully and that there was no need for this show of force as we would leave as soon as we had our documentation returned to us.
On leaving the courts peacefully we all filed round to the police station to file a compliant about the police heavy handedness. When we got there the policeman at the desk said there was no-one there to deal with us as they were all next door for us! He was laughing and appeared quite amused so we waited while they sent someone through.

Behind THE Barriers Season 3 Episode 3
The scene opens on a wind blown cottage along the sea in Rockport, Massachusetts. Jeremy Powers has just arrived to contest the annual Gran Prix of Gloucester, the first rounds of the Shimano New England Pro Cyclocross Series. After drawing a fire and getting settled in, Mr. Powers settles in for a night of reading and relaxation. Here is where Behind THE Barriers joins the Gran Prix of Gloucester saga in its third episode of the season. Jeremy is back in New England to take on one of his hometown races. All of the nation's top riders are in town, aiming to win one of the nation's most prestigious cyclocross events. With two days of racing on the docket, Jeremy stared down some tough competition on Saturday, en route to taking a victory that was not without incident. An errant hay bale sent Jeremy sprawling and meant that he had some extra cleaning up to do after the race. After patching himself up, Jeremy is back at it on Sunday, when overnight rain soaked the course and made the racing completely different than that seen on Saturday. Thanks to his win on Saturday and a second place finish on Sunday, all while fighting off tour buses full of rabid fans, Jeremy can call the Gran Prix of Gloucester a big success.

Divine Secret Colour Test - Canon 5d
Divine Secret Colour Test - Canon 5d
Over the past weekend I was filming a music video for upcoming band The Divine Secret, they're an awesome rock band from Cheltenham in Gloucester with a singer who, in true Wayne's World style, can really wail.
We had planned a full weekend shoot doing two videos, where the story flows from one video to the next. We actually ended up doing THREE! but more on that later heh.
The story is basically that the singer of the band acts more out of control, all the while a backroom scientist is making a puppet version of him to replace him. At the end of the first video this replacement is complete and the puppet takes over the band. In the second video the reverse happens, the singer realises the setup and the puppet acts out of control and the singer returns to defeat the puppet and reclaim his role in the band!
I often like to take some clips from my shoots and colour them, firstly as a stress test to see what they can handle, but also so I know what I'm working with and where I can take it. As such, these are just random clips I've coloured, not final versions or anything like that, so be kind heh.
Oh and I did all of this on my own, I should mention that, I didn't have a crew or anything because I had to travel from Hertfordshire, just North of London, to Cheltenham, which is in the West, in order to shoot this. Funnily enough my friends who sometimes chip in on my shoots didn't want to give up their weekend to go to the West Country! The band did chip in though, especially in swapping puppet operating duties as their arms got too tired!
I edited the original H.264 30P files themselves, although for editing the video proper I will convert to ProRes 422 in MPEG Streamclip. I've used Compressor in the past but MPEG Streamclip is a lot faster and the results are pretty similar. I also left the original audio on there for comparison, so you can once or twice hear my lame direction or the band etc, none of which will make the final video!
I pulled the clips together in FCP and layed on some music by the band themselves as a 'soundtrack' (funny how even though it's just a test clip I still like to add music heh). The colouring was done in Magic Bullets, mostly just picking various looks and tweaking them so they looks good, warming/cooling as appropriate etc.
There's also a bit of an unsharpen mask and some Fading from Misfire. I shoot a lot of live music and have a standard set of filters I whack on and those are included, it just soften things a little.
The 5d was really useful for this shoot b/c we shot a lot in a small basement and although I would have loved a 7d or even the new 550D or T2i as it's called for slow-mo, the wider full frame was very useful as it meant I could get a decently wide image.
I'm going to look closely at the 550D when it comes out though as a B-camera. At times I used my EX1, stock, for slow-mo but the combo was too unweidly and presents issues when mixing formats, although a lot of that is down to the 5d's 30 frames per second. For example, if I were to convert the XDCAM footage to be compatible w/the the 5D I'd convert both to ProRes 422, well that just happens to be what I'll convert the 5D footage too anyway.
Still it's a lot easier to keep things the same from the point of view of colour matching and just generally having the same sort of 'look' to things. I've found in the past where I've used both cameras together, the EX1's colour re-production was off on the Red channel which creates Colour Correction issues, I suppose that's why they brought out the EX1-R w/it's new CMOS sensor.
Lenses used were the Canon 28mm f1.8, 50mm f1.4, 85m f1.8, although I mostly used the 50mm for situations where I could and the 28mm for when it was too close, I can't think of many shots where I used the 85mm. I shot at either f4 or f2.8 depending on light, f4 was my preference.
All in all the 5D performed fantastically, it kind of stunned me really how great it did, especially since I could never have gotten this footage with my EX1/Letus combo as it would be too unwieldy and heavy, let alone the inherent crop of using the 35mm adapter technology.
It was also the first time I used some of my recently acquired gear. Firstly for the night shoots, the party shoots and basically any situation that needed a bit of a fill, I used my new Litepanels MicroPro led light. Although it doesn't flood a room, it's still nice and bright and does a great job at accentuating the light where it's needed.
For example, the shot of Aaron, who performs as Rufio Summers, and has collaborated with The Divine Secret a lot before, using the blow torch you can see the litepanels reflection. I like that, it gives an interesting addition to the image.
Likewise the show of the static camera with the band playing (which was an impromptu THIRD video we did, one shot, no movement) was done when we were done with the party shoot and about to clean up. I left the lights where they we
