Three police officers have been suspended after video footage emerged showing a suspected shoplifter allegedly being assaulted. Kent Police are investigating following an allegation of assault involving its officers at a Debenhams store in Guildhall Street, Canterbury, on July 11. The four-minute film starts with the suspect seated and then being searched. Two officers and the suspect then go out of shot momentarily before a scuffle ensues. The two uniformed officers grapple with the young man before they are joined by a third colleague who grabs him around the throat. As the suspect is pinned to a wall in the corner of the room, the third officer punches the man in the face twice, causing him to fall to the floor. The clip ends with the hoodie-wearing man, who has been handcuffed, being seated and searched again by one of the officers. A police spokesman said: 'Kent Police is investigating following an allegation of assault in Canterbury on 11 July 2013. 'We were made aware of the footage on October 21. Three police officers from East Division were suspended from duty on Thursday 24 October pending the outcome of this inquiry.' An Independent Police Complaints Commission spokeswoman said the watchdog received a referral on October 21 but decided that it was suitable for investigation at a local level.

In some cases burglars have entered the front of a property when the residents are occupied in other areas of the premises, for example in the garden. If you are working outside, in your shed or garage or even holding a firework display in your garden, secure the front of your home.
Never leave keys, money or other valuables near doors or windows where they might be seen.

Kent Police is the territorial police force for Kent in England, including the unitary authority of Medway.
The force covers an area of 1,443 square miles (3,740 km2) with an approximate population of 1,660,588 (1,114,100 in Kent, and 249,488 in Medway). The Chief Constable is currently Ian Learmonth, who was appointed in 2010 and is the former Deputy Chief Constable of Norfolk Constabulary. Prior to Learmonth's appointment, Kent Police was led by Britain's first black Chief Constable, Michael Fuller QPM.
Because of the channel tunnel, Kent Police is unique among English forces in having a police station outside of the country, in Coquelles, France, staffed by Kent officers. Kent Police works with other UK and European forces as part of the Cross Channel Intelligence Community, helping to tackle cross-border crime. The cross channel traffic occasionally causes Kent Police and the Highways Agency to enforce Operation Stack, controlling the freight flow on that part of the M20 motorway closest to the ports. Kent also has the largest strategic road network of any force in the UK, covering four motorways.

Kent /ˈkɛnt/ is a county in South East England, and one of the home counties. It borders East Sussex, Surrey and Greater London and has a defined boundary with Essex in the middle of the Thames Estuary. The ceremonial county boundaries of Kent include the shire county of Kent and the unitary borough of Medway. Kent has a nominal border with France halfway through the Channel Tunnel. Maidstone is its county town and historically Rochester and Canterbury have been accorded city status, though only the latter still holds it.
Kent's location between London and the continental Europe has led to its being in the front line of several conflicts, including the Battle of Britain during World War II. East Kent was known as Hell Fire Corner during the conflict. England has relied on the county's ports to provide warships through much of the past 800 years; the Cinque Ports in the 12th–14th centuries and Chatham Dockyard in the 16th–20th centuries were of particular importance to the country's security. France can be seen clearly in fine weather from Folkestone, and the iconic White Cliffs of Dover.

A police officer (also known as a policeman or policewoman, and constable in some forces, particularly in the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth nations) is a warranted employee of a police force. In the United States, "officer" is the formal name of the lowest police rank; in many other countries "officer" is a generic term not specifying a particular rank, and the lowest rank is often "constable". Police officers are generally charged with the apprehension of criminals and the prevention and detection of crime, and the maintenance of public order. Police officers may be sworn to an oath, and have the power to arrest people and detain them for a limited time, along with other duties and powers.
Some police officers may also be trained in special duties, such as counter-terrorism, surveillance, child protection, VIP protection, and investigation techniques into major crime, including fraud, rape, murder and drug trafficking.
Responsibilities of a police officer are varied, and may differ greatly from within one political context to another. Typical duties relate to keeping the peace, law enforcement, protection of people and property, and the investigation of crimes. Officers are expected to respond to a variety of situations that may arise while they are on duty. Rules and guidelines dictate how an officer should behave within the community, and in many contexts restrictions are placed on what the uniformed officer wears. In some countries, rules and procedures dictate that a police officer is obliged to intervene in a criminal incident, even if they are off-duty. Police officers in nearly all countries retain their lawful powers, while off duty.
