National TUSC supporters' conference called for 22 September 2012

After due consideration the 22nd has been chosen over the 8th September because the TUC conference opens on Monday 10thSeptember (in Brighton) with delegations arriving over the weekend – when there will be a pre-conference general council and also, the National Shop Stewards Network and other campaigning organisations will want to make their presence felt. So all in all the best date is 22 September for the TUSC supporetr's conference– put it in your diaries now.

Where will the TUSC conference be held?

Good question. The TUSC National Steering Committee to be held on 13 June will make a decision. With the privilege of hosting the conference, comes a role in helping to organise it. London? Manchester?Rugby? Birmingham? Being on a main rail line will help. If you want to put a bid in before 13 June then e-mail tuscbulletin@yahoo.co.uk

TUSC to stand in council by-elections in Merseyside

Merseyside TUSC will be standing Chris McDermott and Lynne Wild in the Riverside Allerton and Hunts Cross ward council by-elections which have been called in Liverpool for July 5th. The Riverside seat is the one previously held by the new mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson, who had to vacate it when he was elected. The second seat, also held by Labour, is vacant because the former councillor is no longer resident in the city. The by-elections were discussed at a meeting of Merseyside TUSC supporters convened by RMT executive council member Daren Ireland on Monday night, where it was agreed to contest both seats.

The Independent Socialist Network held a meeting on 19 May. Report here: http://bit.ly/KBwXMM Another national meeting has been called for 21 July 2012 in central London. For more details keep an eye on the ISN website:http://bit.ly/mn4I9R . If you are an independent socialist you are welcome to attend.

TUSC aims to bring trade unionists, socialists and anti-cuts campaigners together to stand candidates at elections who are committed to representing working-class interests. Resistance to the cuts is vital, but we also need a political alternative to the policies of cuts and privatisation. TUSC believes that a new working-class party is needed that campaigns for a democratic socialist society run in the interests of the millions not the millionaires.
