Florida's 16th congressional district is an electoral district for the U.S. Congress and was reassigned in 2012, effective January 2013, to western Manatee County, Florida and Sarasota County. The district stretches from Bradenton, the County Seat, in Manatee County to North Port, in Sarasota County, the county's youngest and most populous incorporated city. The city of Sarasota is the County Seat of Sarasota County.
The former 16th district in 2003–2012 stretched from the Gulf of Mexico to the Atlantic Coast and included parts of Charlotte, Glades, Hendry, Highlands, Okeechobee, St. Lucie, Martin, and Palm Beach counties. Included within the district were Port Charlotte, Port St. Lucie, and Palm Beach.
The district is currently represented by Republican Vern Buchanan.
When the Florida legislature redistricted in 2002 after the 2000 U.S. Census, a federal court described the boundaries of the 16th Congressional District and the interlocking 23rd Congressional District as an example of gerrymandering and a "raw exercise of majority legislative power."
16th district may refer to:
A congressional district is an electoral constituency that elects a single member of a congress. Countries with congressional districts include the United States, the Philippines, and Japan. A congressional district is based on population, which, in the United States, is taken using a census every ten years.
There are 435 congressional districts in the United States House of Representatives, with each one representing approximately 700,000 people. In addition to the 435 congressional districts, the five inhabited U.S. territories and the federal district of Washington, D.C. each send a non-voting delegate to the House of Representatives. The Census Bureau within the United States Department of Commerce conducts a decennial census whose figures are used to determine the number of congressional districts within each state. The 2012 elections were the first to be based on the congressional districts which were defined based on the 2010 Census data.
Florida i/ˈflɒrɪdə/ (Spanish for "flowery land") is a state located in the southeastern region of the United States. The state is bordered to the west by the Gulf of Mexico, to the north by Alabama and Georgia, to the east by the Atlantic Ocean, and to the south by the Straits of Florida and the country of Cuba. Florida is the 22nd most extensive, the 3rd most populous, and the 8th most densely populated of the United States. Jacksonville is the most populous city in Florida, and the largest city by area in the contiguous United States. The Miami metropolitan area is the eighth-largest metropolitan area in the United States. Tallahassee is the state capital.
A peninsula between the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Straits of Florida, it has the longest coastline in the contiguous United States, approximately 1,350 miles (2,170 km), and is the only state that borders both the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. Much of the state is at or near sea level and is characterized by sedimentary soil. The climate varies from subtropical in the north to tropical in the south. The American alligator, American crocodile, Florida panther, and manatee can be found in the Everglades National Park.

Turns out, there's a pretty good reason for all those bizarrely shaped districts. But generally, how the congressional district lines are drawn has nothing to do with the voter's best interest. 1.) It’s no accident that 90 percent of Congress is re-elected every time; districts can be carefully drawn to protect incumbents. In Florida, a federal judge ruled that the design of two districts illegally favor sitting politicians, and ordered new maps just weeks before the primary elections. Political editor Domenico Montanaro joins Gwen Ifill for an in-depth explanation. ****New President Donald Trump Rally in IOWA: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xyo1hL7B1g **** Democrats and Republicans have spent two months hunting for voters who cast ballots in 2016 but didn’t participate in the April primary. These maps show precincts in which the April margin between the losing party and the winning one was less than the number of votes the party is chasing from last November. Both parties’ best chance is to get the voters who cast ballots for president to the polls in June. The darker the precinct, the more votes are outstanding. ►Website: GoldenStateTimes.com ►Dog Lover?
