THUMB: [1998] Exposure

With their roots firmly placed in hardcore punk, the German-based quintet of Thumb got together in 1993. Originally consisting of Claus Grabke (vocals), Jan Hendrik Meyer (bass), Axel Hilgenstoehler (guitar), and Steffen Wilmking (drums), Jens Goessling (turntables) was eventually added to the lineup for his contribution of sampling techniques, rather than turning the band into a metal/hip-hop cliché. After self-releasing their first album in 1995, their follow-up full-length Exposure came out exclusively in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland in 1996. Victory Records eventually re-released the album to the States the following year.

trACks: Break Me = Self Myself = Seize The Day = Values = Thank You For Hating Me = Remember = Dad = Reality = This Life = Exposure = Cavemen In Disguise = Aside.

D.O.A.: [1985] Let's Wreck The Party

This is a big return from D.O.A., but it's also going to be an adjustment for older fans to get into, and many will likely find it not worth the effort. A mild surprise, they've traded straight-ahead punk for punk-edged, big time rock, the kind they alone are capable of, and they can really spit the juices out of these live. It's real good in places, though your tolerance for AOR radio rock, even the good kind, might be limited -- though the references for this run closer to Bachman-Turner Overdrive (whom D.O.A. has covered live) and Steppenwolf (likewise, in a side band), or the Guess Who and Grand Funk Railroad. Still, if you’ve come looking for "I'm Right You’re Wrong" or "The Enemy," let alone "001 Losers Club," you won't find it here. This band has moved on a little ways from the alternative scene -- strange, not only for them, but this label -- and they're quite great at it, so now it's only a matter of your tolerance/taste.

trACks: Our World = Dangerman = Race Riot = Singin' in The Rain = Dance O'Death = General Strike = Let's Wreck The Party = Shout Out = Murder in Hollywood = The Warrior Ain't No More = No Way Out = Trial By Media.

CONDEMNED 84: [1999] Blood On Yer Face

Formed in the Autumn of 1980 as Criminal Tendencies, after three years the band changed their name to Condemned. The 84 moniker was added a year later, coinciding with the release of their first demo tape. Between 1984-87 over 90 gigs were played mainly in the U.K.
During 1986 various LP's / E.P.'s were released, with the debut mini lp Battle Scarred reaching No 21 in the National Independent Album chart, the follow up Oi! Ain't Dead E.P. reached No 18 in the U.K. Independent singles chart.

trACks: Justice = Sell Out = Government Holiday = Fuck You = They Think It's All Over = Right To Fight = Have A Go Hero = Give 'em Life = This Is Our World = Victim = The Flame Won't Die = Tell The Truth = Violence.

D.I.: Surfin' Anarchy [Single]

The Orange County punk project D.I. formed in 1982 by vocalist Casey Royer while his former band Adolescents was temporarily on hiatus. The group saw some success reach its peak in the mid and late 1980's, and their second album, "Horse Bites, Dog Cries" is now considered a hardcore punk classic. Despite going on hiatus between albums, the band has continued to be active. However, tragedy struck in March 2011 when their singer Casey Royer got arrested for overdosing on heroin while watching television with his 12 year old son. As of April 2011, he has been sentenced to a 90-day jail term and placed on probation for three years. Despite his arrest, D.I. is still together.

trACks: Surfin' Anarchy = Uncontrolable Urge

THE KNACK: [2002] Live From the Rock'n' Roll Funhouse

This crisp concert set documents just how important the Knack were in the evolution of millennial guitar pop music. With yet another new drummer laying down the beat, the original members who comprise the rest of the lineup tear through their hook-riddled, bite-size songs with a freshness and frenzy that's astonishing for -- here it comes -- guys this age. Their singing is especially adolescent: thin, quivery in the upper register, and electric with teenaged angst. There's not a note that sounds moldy, not a whine in the vocal line that betrays Fieger's longevity. When they hit the "love is the answer" lyric on "One Day at a Time," their naïve passion is totally convincing. Frankly, it's almost a little weird, as if, to borrow from Dorian Gray, they had their old masters hanging in an attic. More important, it's also an affirmation that in razor-edged pop, as in life, spirit can transcend flesh after all -- except, judging from the last track, when trying to cover a Jim Morrison vocal.by Robert L. Doerschuk

trACks: Pop Is Dead = Baby Talks Dirty = Oh Tara = CAn I Borrow A Kiss = Another Lousy Day In Paradise = Good Girls Don't = One Day At A Time = Siamese Twins (The Money And Me) = Harder On You = Sweet Dreams = That's What The Little Girls Do = (She's So) Selfish = My Sharona = (Havin' A) Rave Up = Tequila Break On Through (to The Other Side).

VA: The British Punkinvasion Volume 1 [Re-Up]

About Destination Venus --- These guys were the shooting stars from "The British Punk Invasion - Vol.1" sampler which led to a contract with the SMOKIN' TROLL
label for their debut. Their recent line-up change has taken them to a five piece band with the addition of a rhythm guitar to add more energy. Too rough for pop punk - too melodic for street punk.
@@@@@@@@@@
About Apocalypse Babys --- 'Birth of the Babys' - 1990, South Normanton, a small town on the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire border famous for being a small town on the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire border, or as many have put it, "A good place to move out of". It is here that a young Asterix The Brat decides he wants to be a punk rock star, he searches for talented musicians, unable to find any, he asks a gang of local drunkards thieves and drop outs if they would like to become Apocalypse Babys? "You fuckin' wot?.. they reply! - And so begins 15 years of anarchy, chaos and general mischief! - Yes from Scotland to Cornwall these terrors have been corrupting the nations youth with their punk rock filth and flying the flag throughout Europe for over 15 years now! They..ve been held by the terrorist squad in Italy, insulted the food in France, drank Belgium dry and left the women of Holland bo- legged! - Apocalypse Babys have played gay bars, strip joints, biker rallies and nazi gatherings? They..ve been attacked, slung out, arrested and banned - They..re one of punk rock..s best-kept secrets. Shunned by certain sections of the scene whilst gaining plaudits from others. They..ve outlived nearly every Brit punk band formed in the unfashionable early 1990..s and are still out there, ..forgotten.. but not gone..! - We are the Apocalypse Babys..who the fuck are you?

About Mere Dead Men --- Mere Dead Men formed in 1985, by a handful of people, Mandy included to liven up a small and very sad punk scene. Liverpool and it's surrounding areas where caught up in the throes of the metal and goth movements, there were hardly any punk bands of their type left, yes Pek we know you were busy with the hardcore scene and we have been sadly misquoted on that!!, there were a few hardcore bands around and anarcho bands, but as we said no-one was keeping the original spirit of punk alive, which is what MDM are all about. We began playing locally and promoting gigs at Stairways night club, we then started using some of Mandy's old Iconoclasts contacts, yes Mr Harper, you were a great help and still are, and started playing around the UK. From that we went on to promote shows at Planet X in Liverpool, and started to get a decent following together. Rag joined us on Drums in 1988 and also for a short while we had Hocky from Instant Agony sharing the vocals with Mandy. Ha we entered a talent competition at around this time and boy was it a laugh, we won.....a support slot to the Rock Band Little Angels, that was so funny, the audience didn't know what the hell we were!!!!
