He was born Giovanni Berardino in Los Angeles. He attended Belmont High School, located in downtown Los Angeles.
Beradino is often mentioned as having appeared in the silent Our Gang comedies produced by Hal Roach as a child actor but has not been identified as having appeared in any of the existing films.
After attending the University of Southern California, where he played baseball under coach Sam Barry and was member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity, Beradino was a major league player from 1939 to 1952 (except for three years of military service in the U.S. Naval Reserve during World War II, from 1942 to 1945). He played second baseman and shortstop for the St. Louis Browns, Cleveland Indians, and Pittsburgh Pirates, winning the World Series with the Indians in 1948. He also played first and third base. After injuring his leg and being released by Pittsburgh in 1952, he retired from baseball and returned to acting, having appeared in his first film in 1948.

Concurrently, it is the world's third longest-running scripted drama series in production after British serials The Archers and Coronation Street, as well as the world's second-longest-running televised soap opera still in production. General Hospital premiered on the ABC television network on April 1, 1963. Same-day broadcasts as well as classic episodes were aired on SOAPnet from January 20, 2000 to December 31, 2013, following Disney-ABC's decision to discontinue the network. General Hospital is the longest-running serial produced in Hollywood, and the longest-running entertainment program in ABC television history. It holds the record for most Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Drama Series, with 11 wins.
Rachel Ames (born November 2, 1929, Portland, Oregon) is an American actress.
Born Rachel Foulger, Ames is the daughter of actress (and later college drama instructor) Dorothy Adams and actor Byron Foulger. Ames attended University High School and UCLA after she and her family moved to Los Angeles, California. In the early years of her acting career, she was credited as Judith Ames.
Ames debuted professionally in 1949 in Pilgrimage Play, and she joined her parents in acting in One Foot in Heaven at the Pasadena Playhouse.
Ames was under contract with Paramount Pictures for three years in the early 1950s; her first film was When Worlds Collide (1951).
In her only regular role on prime-time television, Ames played Policewoman Sandy McAllister on The Lineup in that program's final season.
Ames is the longest-running performer on ABC's daytime serial, General Hospital, playing Audrey Hardy, R.N. from 1964 to 2007. She also played Audrey Hardy on the General Hospital spin-off series Port Charles. Her contract was not renewed for General Hospital in 2003, but she still appeared as a recurring character from 2003 until 2007, and made a brief appearance in 2009. On February 13, 2013 Genie Francis (Laura Spencer) announced on Katie that Ames returned to the show on March 29, 2013. She returned for a brief scene on October 30, 2015.
