Toronto Attractions - CN Tower
At the heart of Toronto's skyline stands the CN Tower, a world-class dining and entertainment destination visited by over 1.5 million people each year. Here are some exciting facts about one of the most famous landmarks in Toronto and the world.
Standing tall at 553.33 metres, the CN Tower is a Canadian icon. Designated an engineering Wonder of the Modern World, Canada's National Tower joins the ranks of other world famous structures, including the Golden Gate Bridge, the Channel Tunnel and the Empire State Building. It was originally built for telecommunications and still provides clear signals for over 30 TV, radio and cellular systems. The CN Tower was also built to withstand many severe weather conditions including extreme winds and lighting strikes (which occur a striking 75 times per year!).
Offering one of the longest continuous elevator rides on the planet, the CN Tower was named #1 elevator ride in the world by National Geographic. Travelling at a speed of 22 kph it takes 58 seconds to reach the Look-Out Level, which is famous, itself, for its see-through glass floor. You'll experience an adrenaline rush like never before as you look straight down to the ground from 342 metres up in the air. (The glass is only 6 centimetres thick but don't fret, it's specially designed to withstand the weight of 14 hippopotamuses!). On a clear day visitors can to see sights up to 120 km away, including Niagara Falls and Rochester, New York. One stop higher is the Sky Pod Level, which is the Tower's highest observation level at 447 metres.
If you're looking to dine, don't miss out on the ever-popular revolving 360 Restaurant, upscale bistro Horizons Restaurant, or the casual Far Coast Café. Celebrities and dignitaries from around the world visit the Tower's restaurants, where parties from two to two thousand are hosted year-round. The 360 Restaurant is award-winning for its food quality and wine selection and is continually voted one of the most romantic restaurants in the world given the frequent marriage proposals that occur there.
Back on the ground, attractions include a new state-of-the-art, high definition 3D film, The Height of Excellence, which documents the historic construction of the CN Tower. There is also the Himalamazon motion theatre ride, the fun-filled arcade, and for souvenir shoppers, the 10,000 square foot Gift Shop. The CN Tower also has nightly light shows, lighting up the city skyline with coloured lights to match any occasion in the city.
Looking for the best price for your visit? Try the Total Tower Experience, which includes access to the Look Out, Glass Floor, Sky Pod, Film and Motion Theatre Ride for $32.99 plus taxes. Visitors can also purchase the Toronto CityPass, which offers front of the line tickets to six major Toronto Attractions at a savings of approximately 50%! Tickets include the CN Tower, Royal Ontario Museum, Hockey Hall of Fame, Ontario Science Centre, Casa Loma and the Toronto Zoo.

Here is a video of the CN Tower in Toronto! Watch in HD and please subscribe! :)
The CN Tower is a communications and observation tower in Downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Standing 553.33 metres (1,815.4 ft) tall, it was completed in 1976, becoming the world's tallest free-standing structure and world's tallest tower. It held both records for 34 years until the completion of the Burj Khalifa and Canton Tower. It remains the tallest free-standing structure in the Western Hemisphere, a signature icon of Toronto's skyline, and a symbol of Canada, attracting more than two million international visitors annually.
Its name "CN" originally referred to Canadian National, the railway company that built the tower. Following the railway's decision to divest non-core freight railway assets, prior to the company's privatization in 1995, it transferred the tower to the Canada Lands Company, a federal Crown corporation responsible for real estate development. Since the name CN Tower became common in daily usage, the abbreviation was eventually expanded to Canadian National Tower or Canada's National Tower. However, neither of these names are commonly used.
In 1995, the CN Tower was declared one of the modern Seven Wonders of the World by the American Society of Civil Engineers. It also belongs to the World Federation of Great Towers, where it holds second-place ranking.
The CN Tower was once lit at night with incandescent lights, but they were removed in 1997, because they were inefficient and expensive to repair. In June 2007, the tower was outfitted with 1,330 super-bright LED lights inside the elevator shafts, shooting up over the main pod and upward to the top of the tower's mast to light the tower from dusk until 2 a.m. The official opening ceremony took place on June 28 before the Canada Day holiday weekend. The tower changes its lighting scheme on holidays and to commemorate major events. After the 95th Grey Cup in Toronto, the tower was lit up in green and white to represent the colors of the Grey Cup champion Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Programmed from a desktop computer with a wireless network interface controller, the LEDs use less energy to light than the previously used incandescent lights (10% less energy than the dimly lit version and 60% less than the brightly lit version). The estimated cost to use the LEDs is $1,000 per month.
During the spring and autumn bird migration seasons, the lights will be turned off to comply with the voluntary Fatal Light Awareness Program, which "encourages buildings to dim unnecessary exterior lighting to mitigate bird mortality during spring and summer migration."

Owen Pallett - The CN Tower Belongs To The Dead
Art: Kefka's Tower by Yoshitaka Amano
Song: The CN Tower Belongs To The Dead
Artist: Owen Pallett / Final Fantasy
Album: Has a Good Home
Lyrics:
We the dead, we the dead find a country road
Country road, lead the dead from our homes to the ground
Keep a book of the maggots our bodies will snare
'Cause the earth is the earth, no need to travel in the air
The CN Tower is built upon our bones!
The CN Tower will always be our home!
Decorate 'round the base, all the graves of our lost loves
Cabbages, ginger root and a crucifix
Never rode on the plains, never thought I couldn't stay
Had a good run anyway, had a good run anyway
I could fill up the lake with all the things I didn't say
Had a good run anyway, had a good run anyway
From the top of the tower
Radio buzz in our ears
We can see your house from here
We can see your house from here
From the top of the tower
Radio buzz in our ears
We can see your house from here
We can see your house from here

CN Tower hit by lightning 15 times
During an intense electrical storm in Toronto on Aug. 24, 2011, I pointed my video camera at the CN Tower -- the tallest structure in the city (and Canada for that matter) -- and recorded one lightning strike after another over the course of about half an hour. Here's a montage of 15 of those hits.
There was so much lightning over such a long period that the spectators oohing and aahing on their balconies eventually got bored and went back inside.

TORONTO, ON, May 9 2011 -- Today, Canada's National Tower announced the imminent opening of its new extreme attraction, EdgeWalk at the CN Tower. The first of its kind in North America, EdgeWalk is the world's highest full circle hands-free walk on a 5 ft (1.5 m) wide ledge encircling the top of the CN Tower's main pod, 356m, (1168 ft , 116 stories) above the ground. This adrenalin-fueled experience will allow thrill seekers to walk the edge of one of the world's greatest man-made wonders beginning summer 2011.
"We think it's fitting that Toronto's newest attraction in 18 years should be at the city's most defining landmark," said Mark Laroche, President and CEO, Canada Lands Company, Owner and Operator of the CN Tower. "EdgeWalk is both thrilling and unique and will push visitors to their limits -- literally and figuratively. This will be among Toronto's, if not the world's, greatest attractions."
Adventure lovers will walk "hands-free" in groups of six to eight, while attached to an overhead safety rail via a trolley and harness system. Trained EdgeWalk guides will encourage visitors to push their personal limits, allowing those who dare to lean back over Toronto, with nothing but air beneath them. Everyone who meets the stipulated requirements (height and weight parameters) will be welcome to experience these breathtaking open-air views of Toronto and Lake Ontario.
"During our 35th anniversary year we are excited to introduce visitors to the most exciting attraction in our history," said Jack Robinson, COO, CN Tower. "We're extremely proud of the records the CN Tower has held throughout the years, including our strong safety record. Our facilities and engineering team supervised the EdgeWalk project design and build to ensure that it is both exciting and safe."
Every aspect of EdgeWalk, from design, to build, to attraction logistics and operation has been developed with the utmost safety and security in mind. The entire experience will run 1.5 hours, with the walk itself lasting between 20 to 30 minutes.
EdgeWalk at the CN Tower will open to the public in summer 2011, with advanced ticket sales beginning by phone in June.
