Richard Lynch

Richard Lynch (February 12, 1940 – June 19, 2012) was an Irish-American actor best known for portraying villains in films and television.

His film credits included The Sword and the Sorcerer, Invasion USA, The Seven-Ups, Scarecrow, Little Nikita, Bad Dreams, God Told Me To, and Halloween. He appeared in science fiction productions, including Battlestar Galactica (as Wolfe) and its sequel series Galactica 1980 (as Commander Xaviar). He also appeared in such shows as Starsky and Hutch, T. J. Hooker, Blue Thunder, Airwolf, The A-Team, Charmed and Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Early life and career

Richard Hugh Lynch was born on February 12, 1940 (sometimes incorrectly cited as 1936) in Brooklyn, New York to Irish Catholic parents. His younger brother is actor Barry Lynch. Lynch served in the United States Marine Corps for four years.

Lynch's distinct scarred appearance made him a popular nemesis, and he can be seen in more than 100 film and television performances. The scars came from a 1967 incident in New York's Central Park in which, under the influence of drugs, he set himself on fire, burning more than 70 percent of his body. He spent a year in recovery, quit drugs and ultimately began training at The Actors Studio and at the HB Studio. He often played a "heavy" in features, including Scarecrow, which marked his film debut, The Seven-Ups, Bad Dreams, and Little Nikita.

Richard Lynch (Jesuit)

Richard Lynch (1611–1676) was an Irish theologian and Jesuit.

Born in Galway to one of the Tribes of Galway, he was educated by the Jesuits at Compostela and joined the society in 1630. In 1637 he was made rector of the Irish College in Seville. He died at Salamanca in 1676 having lived most of his life in Spain. The library at Salamanca holds many of his theological works in manuscript form, many of which were written in Spanish.

Richard Lynch (Welsh actor)

Richard Lynch (born December 1965) is a Welsh television and film actor best known for playing the character of Garry Monk in S4C's long-running Welsh-language soap Pobol y Cwm.

Lynch is an alumnus of Ysgol Gyfun Rhydfelen, a Welsh Medium comprehensive school near Pontypridd.

Lynch first came to prominence in the 1986 Karl Francis film Milwr Bychan playing young soldier Will Thomas. Further film appearances include Branwen (1994), Darklands (1996), The Proposition (1997), and Y Mabinogi (2003). Lynch starred n numerous television productions and series, including The Christmas Stallion (1992), The Lifeboat (1994), and Tales from Pleasure Beach (2001).
