Firestorm: 18
In 2004, DC revived the Firestorm comic for the second time, with writer Dan Jolley and artist Chris Cross, but instead of the original Firestorm, Ronnie Raymond, there was a new protagonist; Jason Rusch, a teenager. Jason was a seventeen-year-old living in Detroit, who wanted nothing more than to escape his home city. He lived with his father, who had turned abusive after he lost his hand in an industrial accident. His mother left his father sometime after the accident, leaving the young Jason with his father. With the loss of a job he needed to fund college, Jason turned to a local thug for money, accepting a job as a courier. It was on that job that he encountered the Firestorm matrix, searching for a new host after Raymond's death. In the aftermath, Jason struggled to cope with his new identity and powers - a struggle that led to the death of the man who'd hired him. Eventually, Jason managed to develop a degree of control over his powers. Ronnie Raymond eventually returned within the Firestorm matrix in Firestorm #9, remaining with Jason as part of Firestorm until he appeared to dissipate in Firestorm #13. Shortly after Jason's eighteenth birthday, a few weeks after Raymond's dissipation, Jason was kidnapped by the new Secret Society of Super Villains for use as a power source in a hidden complex. Freed when the new Secret Six launched a raid on the complex, Jason discovered two important things: he had a fellow prisoner (a mysterious girl named Gehenna), and his imprisonment by the Society had significantly depowered him (Firestorm #17). Together, Jason and Gehenna escaped the complex. Gehenna disappeared in the aftermath, but telepathically promised Firestorm that she'd see him again. In Firestorm #19, Donna Troy recruited Firestorm - this time comprising Jason and his best friend Mick Wong - for her outer space team to fight the oncoming instability from Infinite Crisis. Infinite Crisis[edit] In the 2006 miniseries Infinite Crisis it was revealed that Martin Stein, alive in space as the "Elemental Firestorm", had sensed the presence of Jason within the Firestorm Matrix, but was unaware of the final demise of Ronnie Raymond. When Jason, as Firestorm, was gravely wounded in the line of duty, Stein linked with him in a variation of the merge, promising Jason a new Firestorm body to let him return into battle (although Martin had been unable to save Mick) and asking him about the fate of Ronnie. Accepting Martin's proposal, Jason asked Stein to become the permanent second member of the Firestorm matrix. Sensing his "errors", including Mick's death, were the result of his youth and lack of experience, he sought the experience and maturity of Stein. Martin refused at first, but finally accepted Jason's request, thus ensuring both a new Firestorm body and the reconstruction of human bodies for both Rusch and Martin. It was revealed in Infinite Crisis that if the Multiverse had survived up to the present, Jason would have been a native of Earth-Eight.- published: 22 Feb 2014

Countdown to Infinite Crisis Book 20 Superman 219 Sacrifice Part 1
Synopsis for "Sacrifice (Part I of IV) - Touch" Lois Lane wakes up to find that her husband is missing, and contacts an unknown confidante, expressing concern for Superman's mental state. Meanwhile, Ned, the Robot arrives at the Fortress of Solitude in Peru to find a confused and horrified Superman with blood on his hands. He is unable to remember exactly whose blood it is, or how it got there. In a flashback to one day earlier, Clark Kent is reporting on the damage that he caused to Metropolis while fighting Blackrock. Upon returning to the Daily Planet, he discovers that Lois has been talking with Brainiac behind closed doors. Enraged and believing her in danger, Superman returns to the Fortress to seek out Brainiac, who suddenly commandeers the Fortress' computer systems, including Ned. Superman traces Brainiac to an undersea base. Superman punches a hole in the wall, causing the base to flood, and hoping that the pressure will destroy his enemy. Unfortunately, Brainiac reveals that he has brought Superman's loved ones Perry, Lois, Lana, and Jimmy with him - and that they would not withstand the pressure. Superman is unable to save them, and they are all crushed to death. Anguished, Superman savagely beats Brainiac until he suddenly finds himself back in the Fortress just as Ned is arriving. Adding to his confusion, the JLA arrives to detain him, claiming that he has forced them to act. http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/Superman_Vol_2_219- published: 21 Oct 2013

Countdown to Infinite Crisis Book 31: Superman 220
John Henry Irons brings a team to the ruins of the original Fortress of Solitude in the Arctic Circle. He comes across readings indicating that the Eradicator is buried beneath the snow, and he causes an explosion, to free him. In Smallville, Connor Kent reflects with angst upon recent events including his having attacked the Teen Titans while under the control of Lex Luthor. Clark Kent visits him, revealing that he is also concerned about having been a victim of mind-control. Superboy confesses that half of his DNA comes from Luthor, to Superman's surprise. Superman uses his powers to see that Connor's soul is good, despite Luthor's influence. They are suddenly alerted to the events at the ruins of the Fortress, where they find an injured Dr. Irons. The Eradicator suddenly attacks them angrily, while back at Dr. Irons' camp, one of his team members is activated as an O.M.A.C unit. The O.M.A.C. attacks and injures the Eradicator with just one blow. Superboy tells Superman that he needs to get over whatever is bothering him, because this is likely only the beginning.- published: 13 Jan 2014

Countdown to Infinite Crisis Book 42: Wonder Woman 221
One of the events that led to Infinite Crisis was of Wonder Woman killing the villain Maxwell Lord in Wonder Woman Vol 2 #219.[66] Maxwell Lord was mind-controlling Superman, who as a result was near to killing Batman. Wonder Woman tried to stop Superman, Lord (who was unable to mind control her) made Superman see her as his enemy Doomsday trying to kill Lois Lane. Superman then attacked Wonder Woman, and a vicious battle ensued. Buying herself time by slicing Superman's throat with her tiara, Wonder Woman caught Lord in her Lasso of Truth and demanded to know how to stop his control over Superman. As the lasso forced the wearer to speak only the truth, Lord told her that the only way to stop him was to kill him. Left with no choice, Wonder Woman snapped Lord's neck and ended his control over Superman.[66] Unknown to her, the entire scene was broadcast live around every channel in the world by Brother Eye. The viewers were not aware of the entire situation, and saw only Wonder Woman murdering a Justice League associate. Wonder Woman's actions put her at odds with Batman and Superman, as they saw Wonder Woman as a cold-blooded killer, despite the fact that she saved their lives.- published: 08 Feb 2014

Countdown to Infinite Crisis Book 32: Villians United 04
For months now, former President Lex Luthor has been using his resources to assemble an army against the superheroes. Luthor's team now has over two hundred members with a six-member core team consisting of Luthor, Talia al Ghul, Doctor Psycho, Deathstroke, Black Adam, and the Calculator. But not all the villains offered a chance to join this army are thrilled with the idea. Batman villain Catman has joined a team of five supported by the mysterious Mockingbird including Cheshire, Deadshot, Scandal, Ragdoll, and Parademon to oppose this new Secret Society. Catman replaced the first Fiddler, after he was killed by Deadshot on Mockingbird's orders when Mockingbird felt he had not fulfilled his part in a mission. Late one night in the mansion of the Secret Six, Catman and Deadshot have a discussion about their unknown leader, Mockingbird and the dramatic change in Catman's life, while Cheshire secretly listens in the shadows. After a short while Scandal informs everyone that Mockingbird has just assigned them to steal Thanagarian weaponry from a tanker in Gotham harbor. Upon their arrival to the tanker, they are ambushed by members of the Society. After their capture, the Crime Doctor tortures the Secret Six, asking them the identity of Mockingbird among other questions. After a few rounds of torture, Catman breaks free and rescues his villainous teammates. While escaping they decide to send the Society a message. They murder one of the two Hyena. After their escape the Six infiltrate a Society installation in Brazil. After fighting their way through a legion of H.I.V.E. troopers, apparently led by the Queen Bee, they discover the Society's plans for the 'Vindication Scenario' - erasing the memories of all of Earth's superheroes. The facility is a giant battery, powered by a duo of kidnap victims, Firestorm and Gehenna. They release Firestorm just as Black Adam arrives with a response team and the facility is destroyed. Once the Six return to their base Cheshire and Catman are in bed together when Cheshire accuses Catman of being a spy and wanting to be a hero. However, she reveals that she has slept with him in order to conceive a child. A short time later, most of the Society's founding council votes to mount a final strike on the Secret Six — Lex Luthor disagrees with a preemptive attack, but the remaining four members (Black Adam is notably absent) decide the action is necessary. Simultaneously, the Six agree to a last stand, but only under the condition that any survivors be set free from Mockingbird's control with no strings attached. Prior to the battle between the Society and the Six, Deadshot visits Scandal's room to talk about the team's future. A framed picture on her desk reveals that her father is the immortal Vandal Savage. Before the conversation can progress past basic greetings, Catman ambushes Deadshot and revealing that he knows that the latter had masqueraded as the villainous Deathstroke and murdered the lions in his pride. The two scuffle before discovering that the real Deathstroke has lead a small band of villains to the front door of the House of Secrets. As they debate how the Society found them, Cheshire confesses to several traitorous deeds, including having given Luthor the coordinates of the Six's base and covertly joining the Society. When asked why she would do such a thing, given Mockingbird's threat to kill her daughter if she didn't comply, Cheshire points out that the baby she's just conceived with Catman will make a fine replacement for the lost child. The Society storms through the castle, and Cheshire is shot by Deathstroke, who comments that "The Society doesn't need traitors." The Secret Six, however, fight back successfully. Talia and Scandal, daughters of immortals fight, and just when Talia has the upper hand, Scandal's mole in the Society, Knockout, knocks her out (it is also revealed that Knockout is Scandal's lover). Ragdoll convinces Solomon Grundy, a fellow "ugly monster," to switch sides. Ragdoll fights his father until Parademon beats the elder Ragdoll. Catman and Ragdoll Jr. escape from Black Adam's group while Parademon blows himself and his surroundings up. Deathstroke and Deadshot duel, ultimately shooting each other at the same time. To save his daughter Scandal, Vandal Savage infiltrates the Society's headquarters and threatens to kill Luthor if he does not disengage the attack against the Six. Reluctantly, and over Black Adam's objections, Luthor ends the battle. Deadshot is led to medical help by the surviving members of the Secret Six. The central revelation of the book is that Mockingbird is actually Lex Luthor and that the Luthor who organized the Secret Society is an "imposter" (later revealed to be the Alexander Luthor of Earth- published: 18 Jan 2014

Synopsis for "Black Vengeance (Part III of III)" While the Spectre continues his rampage across Shiruta, Eclipso animates two stone statues and has them attack Stargirl and Atom-Smasher. Stargirl manages to wrestle free of their grasp and recovers her cosmic staff. Atom-Smasher then makes short work of both statues. He gets the drop on Eclipso and steps on her, threatening to apply lethal pressure unless she tells him how to call of the Spectre. Eclipso taunts him then releases a blast of energy that drives Atom-Smasher back. Meanwhile, a panicking Power Girl is still stumbling around blind in a crowd of angry Kahndaqi citizens. Hawkgirl swoops down and pulls Kara to safety, but Eclipso leaps on top of her and begins raking her back with her sharp talons. Hawkgirl uses her spear and rams into Eclipso's eye. Black Adam approaches them and grabs Eclipso. Enraged and with no remorse in his heart, he snaps Eclipso's neck and lets her fall to the ground. Jean survives however and after snapping her neck back into place decides to flee the battle scene. Atom-Smasher meanwhile decides to confront the Spectre directly. He increases his size and mass well beyond safe limits and tackles him head-on. Al bargains with the Spectre and tells him that he will offer himself up to the Spectre's judgment and subsequent vengeance if the Spectre leaves Kahndaq. The Spectre agrees and plunges his wraithly fist into Atom-Smasher's chest. He judges him for his deliberate actions that led to the death of Extant. His fist crushes Al's heart and the former JSA member falls to the ground. The Spectre, honoring his promise, disappears from Kahndaq. For an instant, Per Degaton appears before Al's broken and dying body and says, "I told you I'd watch your heart burst with sin". Stargirl spots him and begins hurling her starburts, but Per Degaton disappears back into the timestream. The other JSA members quickly crowd around Al's body, but there is nothing they can do. Atom-Smasher is dead. Black Adam, refusing to see his ally die, calls down the power of the magic lightning. Twin bolts strike down upon Atom-Smasher's chest where Black Bolt is standing and the shock is strong enough to restart his over-sized heart. Sentinel creates an energy craft to carry Al away and Hawkman tells Black Adam that they are taking him home. http://dc.wikia.com/wiki/JSA_Vol_1_75- published: 14 Oct 2013

Countdown to Infinite Crisis Book 46: Superman 222
Superman is a fictional character, a superhero that appears in comic books published by DC Comics, and is considered an American cultural icon.[1][2][3][4] Superman was created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster, high school students living in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1933; the character was sold to Detective Comics, Inc. (later DC Comics) in 1938.[5][6] Superman first appeared in Action Comics #1 (June 1938) and subsequently appeared in various radio serials, television programs, films, newspaper strips, and video games. With the success of his adventures, Superman helped to create the superhero genre and establish its primacy within the American comic book.[1] Superman's appearance is distinctive and iconic. He usually wears a blue costume, red cape, and stylized red-and-yellow "S" shield on his chest.[7][8][9] This shield is used in a myriad of media to symbolize the character.[10] The origin story of Superman relates that he was born Kal-El on the planet Krypton, before being rocketed to Earth as an infant by his scientist father Jor-El, moments before Krypton's destruction. Discovered and adopted by a Kansas farmer and his wife, the child is raised as Clark Kent and imbued with a strong moral compass. Very early on he started to display superhuman abilities, which upon reaching maturity, he resolved to use for the benefit of humanity. Superman resides and operates in the fictional American city of Metropolis. As Clark Kent, he is a journalist for the Daily Planet, a Metropolis newspaper. Superman's primary love interest is Lois Lane and his archenemy is supervillain Lex Luthor.[11] Superman has fascinated scholars, with cultural theorists, commentators, and critics alike exploring the character's impact and role in the United States and worldwide. The character's ownership has often been the subject of dispute, with Siegel and Shuster twice suing for the return of legal ownership. Superman has been labeled as the greatest comic book hero of all time by IGN.- published: 22 Feb 2014
